the steep climb up the klettersteig gives you a sense of achievement, breathe the fresh air, enjoy the forests, vineyards, stunning views and nature. If you dislike heights, narrow paths and strong shoes and want a gentler walk to the top of the Klettersteig, take the alternative route on foot from Ediger Eller or Bremm, or drive up the Beuren road and park near the Roman ruins close tomthe pastures and walk the five minutes along a stone but flat path to the viewing point. During the summer, there is a wooden hut selling wine, beer and grape juice at the edge of the forest overlooking the views over the Mosel where its bends are the more acute. I was a little wary, since harnesses were talked about and I don't speak German at all. I didn't know what to expect because I get a bit dizzy with heights. I knew my kids would love to do this from seeing the pictures, but I didn't want to do it if it was too dangerous. (My kids are 13 and 16 and very good hikers, with no fear, I should say.) With that being said, I don't think it's as dangerous as the pictures make it look. The climbing areas make it so much more fun than a regular walking hike. We didn't need harnesses, but I think with younger kids, or older people, it could be a good idea. We LOVED this hike. It's gorgeous with views of the river and fun climbing areas. If I knew in advance that you can bypass the climbing areas, and walk around them, I wouldn't have worried so much. It's a loop, so it takes around two to two and a half hours at a brisk pace. You could turn around and go back, but I think it would be more dangerous going that way.See more..
Great! Thoroughly enjoyed our 15.6 km (or so) walk. The roads are well kept, the indicators are always there when you need them and there are plenty of places with benches to take a break along the way. The views are amazing, and definitely worth the hike. There is a variety of tracks available, so make sure to check the website where you can find all the information you need. Take the accessibility and difficulty levels serious though, especially when you're not an experienced hiker and/or have difficulties walking rough terrain.See more..
We only did about 7km of the Manderscheid-Wittlich section, but it was absolutely fantastic (maybe not for people afraid of heights, but I am and I managed). This was enough to make us want to go back, stay in Manderscheid (we were staying in Gerolstein, about 35 minutes drive), and walk the full route. As it was fall, lots of fallen leaves where on the path, making it a bit too slippery in places (sometimes the path is rather narrow, and rather high above the Lieser river), but after about 2km of slippery-ness we passed someone with a leaf-blower clearing the leaves from the path. Disappointing. We expected much finer hiking for a trail that has been awarded "best hiking trail in 2019" in Germany. Skip the first 10km from Ulmen! It's all walking on broad vehicle tracks!. After the waterfall and the first road crossing, there's an option to run the hike along a nice single track trail on the opposite side of the brook. There are two nice bridges, but alas, the actual hike continues on the wide track :( The section along the watermills is nice though, small trails and interesting landscape. But not spectacular or very special. Biggest dissapointment came when we reached the Weissmühle hotel, about 2,5km before the end of the trail in Cochem. There was no clear signage and the most likely path was closed, due to constsruction works that will last until 2023 ... we had to continue our walk along the tarmac roads into Cochem ... big disappointment.See more..

I would rank this as my third favorite thing to do in Bernkastel, only behind renting a bike to tour the towns along the river and visiting the Vinothek. This is a relatively easy 7,5 km walk through beautiful forest with a few hundred meters elevation gain. The views over the valley are spectacular. Some walkers brought their food and wine with them we noticed. For us it was just the right cure for one of the greatest activities here it seems, which is eating. If done in the morning, you may arrive at the castle for a snack or lunch on your way back down. Easy to follow signs keep you on the path.See more..
The Rheinburgenweg (Rhine Castles Trail) runs from Bingen to Rolandseck, between Remagen and Bonn. It takes a course much closer to the Rhine than the Rheinhöhenweg but is not above the odd plunge deep into the nearby forests. You can stay in any of the riverside settlements and use the hourly train service along the river to get to the start and end points of the section of the walk you intend to do. St Goar makes a particularly good base as its railway station is in the town centre close to several hotels. The walking involves quite a bit of up and down, but the going is very easy for the most part with only the occasional rocky or very steep section. Highly recommended!See more..

This trail is absolutely amazing and one of the best we've ever hiked. We would choose it over for example Rheinsteig any time. The different stages are very beautiful and varied, and the nature in the area is breathtaking. All the small towns along the way have made a great effort to make there mark on the stages with nice places to enjoy the view, relax, eat you packed lunch or read about the areas distinctiveness. Getting to the top of the vineyards can be challenging and tough but is absolutely worth the trouble. We simply loved it here and we are planning on coming back. The signage on the trail is really, really good and easy to follow. The stages north of Trier are the best of those we hiked.See more..

We are a "Middel-Age" couple and found a book about the "Traumschleifen Saar-Hunsrück" in a Restaurant in the Mosel Valley. As the area is quite close to the Mosel Valley, we took the trip, and found some of the most wonderful hiking grounds we have seen so far in Germany. Mostly through woods and fields, with diverse grades of difficulty, but mostly easy, it was very scenic, and really like walking in a dream. The people, and I guess politicians in the area have taken very well care of the walkways, they are very well marked and there are a lot of places to look at or to rest, if necessary. Most of the hiking can be done between 3 and 6 hours, so there is something for everybody. We took 7 hikes in one week, and on 2 days we took two hikes each, one more difficult and one easy in the afternoon. We can highly recommend this area, and we will definitely go back next year.See more..

I started my hike at Almerich cemetery as recommended here but it is also possible to start from Idar-Oberstein town. It took me about 4 hours to make it back following the purple sign Nahe - Felsen -Weg, including stop at Oberstein and Bosselstein castles. As the area is very hilly the trails are often very steep, narrow and slippery but it is just a small price you pay for amazing views to the town and wonderful nature. There are still visible big damages after last winter storms and some woodcutting is ongoing, so be aware that certain parts of the trail may be temporarily closed. Despite high difficulty this hike was very enjoyable. The only disadvantage is that it is all time to close to roads and railway so you don't escape from their noise.See more..

The first time I used the google maps to take me to the park and it went to the general are and service road. There isn’t a sign that says “here’s the park”. Makkelijke wandeling met ons 15 jaar oude hondje, leuk dat er onderweg informatie over deze route te lezen is op de borden onderweg. Wij waren vanuit lutzerath op de fiets naar het beginpunt bij het kapelletje gestart, fietsen goed te plaatsen. Begint goed in Duitsland bij Nothweiler. Daar steek je snel de grens over en dan is er al snel geen bordje of aanwijzing meer te vinden. Toch al vrij snel in het begin een afslag gemist... We kwamen uit bij Gimbelhof in Frankrijk (helaas gesloten, dus geen drankje). Daar nog eens goed op de kaart kijken en via de asfaltweg teruglopen naar een punt op de wandelroute van de Grenzgängerweg. Toen nog een mooie route door de bossen naar de top van een heuvel. Dat was de grens Frankrijk-Duitsland, waarna we dus weer terug op Duits grondgebied wandelden. Ook was helaas de Ertzgrube (een ijzerertsgroeve) gesloten op de dag dat we voorbij liepen. In Nothweiler kwamen we op de afdaling naar het centrum nog een leuke galerij tegen waar je ook kon drinken. Die kwam net op tijd, want met ruim 30 graden waren we al een half uurtje door onze watervoorraad heen.See more..

Der Traumpfad Virne-Burgweg war heute ganz wunderbar zu laufen. Einzig die Strecke war ein wenig matschig, dies ist aber dem Wetter geschuldet und eine schöne Schneelandschaft hat dies entschuldigt. Die Strecke ist gut 10 Kilometer lang mit tollen Aussichtspunkten. In Summe umfasst der Weg 313 HM. Einkehrmöglichkeiten gab es keine, wären ohnehin aktuell geschlossen. Das Aufkommen an anderen Wanderern war wirklich in Ordnung. TIpp: Je früher ihr dort seid, desto weniger ist los. Die Traumpfade sind gut zu laufen (war schon unser dritter) und sind sehr gut ausgeschildert.See more..
Don't know exactly where Felsenweg 6' should be located, and google maps does not give a pinpointed answer, but hiking in this area is great and totally recommended. We did two hikes in this very area and both were great. One can totally enjoy the volcanic rocky cliffs/stones of this area and paths are generally well accessible.
