Beautiful day. The cost was 4€ for adults and 2.50€ for kids. Free parking is onsite. Food and beverages are available to reward you for completing the obstacles for a reasonable price. It was well planned barefoot park. You could skip obstacles if you wanted, but none were too challenging. Fun for the whole family. Nice, slow relaxing day in nature. Great time. See more..

The Kornmarkt (Grainmarket) is located in the old town about 200 meters from the Main marketsquare. The St. George fountain, regarded as one of the most beautiful rococo fountains of Germany, is situated on the West side of the square. Stood originally in the Centre of the square. The building on the square serves the Post and Telecom, and the former French Casino (Classicist style) is present used for gastronomy after a transformation vd Korn market, as well as restoration of the fountain in 2003. 15.000 Granite plates (each 100 kg.) were laid at the square. Protest of the population could prevent that a large Cedar, which is typical of the place, was felled. Previously the Kornmarkt was used as a parkinglot. See more..

Went here end of November, and it's a very nice city to walk through. One can walk the city wall and have some views on the river Rhine; although the wall itself is not very high so temper your expectations on that a little bit. You can get up the wall by stairs on different parts. You can also climb up in some of the towers. All in all one gets a bit of a feel of how it was in medieval times. It's not spectacular, but I would recommend doing it. This city is definitely worth a visit. See more..

I recently participated in an English-speaking group tour of Mainzer Unterwelten. This is an underground tour near Fort Josef. Our wonderful tour guide (Rainer) explained the history of the site. It was originally built between 1710-1730 as a defence fort but was later used as barracks for Prussian, French and other troops. During WW2, Fort Josef was a civil air shelter, hit by allied bombing several times. It was quite surreal being underground and going down the various tunnels listening to our guide tell us the history of the site. It was hard to think how many people had sheltered down there during the war in dark, cramped conditions. We were lucky in comparison and had hard hats and torches while making our way through the tunnels. I really enjoyed the tour....it brought home how much history Mainz has and what its inhabitants have been through. See more..

Last time I was here was 1992. Some things have changed a little. We closed down the site. It is a little disheartening seeing how rundown things are but it brings back memories. This was my full time job for 2 years from 1990 to 1992. This review is asking when I was here but doesn't give me enough time. See more..

This old castle has also been a youth hostel for many years. There are incredible views down to to the city of Bacharach, the Rhine river and the almost vertical slopes of wine grapes. It is lovely to sit outside with a coffee and cake and enjoy the vistas. See more..

Wir waren hier an einem Samstag und es war Markt. Absolut genial, da wir alles für unser Picknick bekommen haben - superlecker. Leider mußten wir in Neustadt lange nach Wein suchen und man hat uns nicht gesagt, dass es auf dem Weg zum Hambacher Schloss ganz viele Winzer gibt, wo wir den Wein bekommen hätten. Allerdings würde ein Weinhändler auf dem Markt in so einer Gegend für mich dazugehören!

Wir wanderten unter Einhaltung der Abstandsregeln auf einem Teilstück des Keltenwegs auf dem Donnersberg. Sehr viele Ausgrabungen aus der Keltenzeit, wie die Keltenmauer und Teilrekonstrution einer Keltenstadt befinden sich rund um den Donnersberg. Sehr gerne empfehlen wie dieses Kulturdankmal für Wanderfreunde auch jetzt in der Coronakrise klar weiter! See more..

This fascinating church is in the heart of Meckel and it comes to life several times a day with its ringing bells and carillon. The church complex consists of the "new " 1896 neo-Gothic church on the hill, old church serving as a funeral chapel nearby and the cemetery surrounding it. St. Bartholomäus is the Roman Catholic parish church. It it functioning and offers Sunday masses and other religious services. It is not open at all times but if given a chance do see it inside because all the neo-Gothic original furnishings are preserved!. A late Gothic sacrament niche was taken out of prior much older church. The ornamental paintings are also original. It has one nave built from limestone blocks. The windows have tracery. Of interest are the wooden pulpit and the high altar, which was designed as a winged altar. Reinhold Wirtz, the architect of this church, died shortly after it was completed. This church is a true treasure of Meckel. As early as the year 800 Meckel had a church of its own! Visit to the historical cemetery might be of interest as well. See more..

Die Amseldelle ist ein bewaldetes Seitental oberhalb der Karlstalschlucht, wo Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts ein Freizeitpark angelegt wurde. Heute stehen noch Gedenktafeln, die an die hohen Besuche des Königs erinnern, und eine kleine Hütte. Ansonsten ist die ganze Anlage bewaldet und mit Moos überzogen.

Man gelangt hierhin, indem man von der Wilensteiner Mühle (auch Klug'sche Mühle) am Teich den Weg nach links zur Karlstalschlucht läuft, und nach wenigen Metern nach rechts den Weg Richtung Amseldell und Schmalenberg läuft. Der Fußweg stößt nach einigen 100 Metern auf einen Forstweg, hier immer geradeaus halten. So gelangt man nach einigen Minuten zum Ort, wo einst ein kleiner Vergnügungspark war. Zu sehen gibt es hier nicht viel, den Erholungswert bildet hauptsächlich das Wandern durch den schönen Pfälzerwald. Wer sowieso das Karlstal besucht, und wer sich für regionale Geschichte interessiert, kann vor dem Besuch der Schlucht einen Abstecher hierhin machen. Es ist eine historische Sehenswürdigkeit für Leute, die vergessene Orte schätzen.

Die Amseldell ist Teil des Eisenhüttenwegs, eines Themenwanderwegs in und um Trippstadt rund um das Thema der Eisenherstellung im Karlstal im 19. Jahrhundert. See more..
