Once you exit off of HW166 to Cowley State Fishing Lake, follow the signs directing you to the waterfall. The lake itself is very pretty with lots of trees surrounding it. There are many stone docks for fishing with picnic tables on them. There are also two public restrooms as well. Once you reach the top of the falls via car, you can hike down to the bottom of the falls. I have bad ankles but was still able to hike it. When I first saw the falls I was in sheer awe. The falls were massive and beautiful with angelic streams flowing down from below. We walked around the streams and across big rocks. See more..

If you're driving the flint hills scenic byway this is definitely a stop that's worth making. The lake is approximately 2 miles outside of Cottonwood Falls. Just a short walk across the dam (east side of lake) and you'll see the trail to the falls. Decently well traveled trails will take you to the various falls. Honestly pretty impressed as you don't typically see this in Kansas! I'm guessing the combined height of the various falls is around 30 to 40 feet. Something worth considering.... I took these pictures in April after a good rain the day before. I don't know if these falls would completely dry up in the summer but I would suspect that they could. See more..

Chamber Music at the Barn image
This is truly a Wichita gem. The programming of the concerts is fabulous, with world class musicians, and the setting couldn't be more gorgeous! You can take a picnic dinner to enjoy in the garden while watching and listening to the concert live-streamed from the barn. Or you can partake of the catered dinner before the concert. Or just go and bask in the glorious music in an intimate chamber music setting. An experience any classical music lover is sure to love! See more..
  4. 4.0 Rock Creek Waterfall (1 review)
    - Pretty remote, but nice

    Rock Creek Waterfall image
The drive off of 195th Street leads to a gravel road, lots of pot-holes, so high clearance vehicle recommended. The Rock Creek Lake is a water source. The Rock Creek dam is here, and the falls are several yards down from the dam. The falls are a short ledge of rock. When we were there there was a drought and no water running. I liked the rock formation and the autumn colors. We also saw deer and wild turkey here. Maybe Spring would be better for a running falls. See more..
