The best part is the guides. They have great energy, positive attitudes, outgoing personalities and hilarious. They make the experience over the top. The zip lines were so much fun! I was afraid of heights for so long. This got my adrenaline pumping and it was fast paced, so I never was able to over think too much. It only took 1.25 hours to complete. We were a little late. Show up early, wear pants/shorts with pockets that zip. You don’t need a bag, but bring your camera!See more..
4.5Gage Park(252 reviews) - Attempted to Find Gage Park Fitness Loop Parks
My wife and I took a half hour or so to walk around Gage Park. We attempted to find the 'fitness loop,' but found no signage identifying the loop. We walked a concrete that went by a cemetery, the front of the zoo, and the rose garden - not sure if that was the 'fitness loop' or not - signage would be helpful. Nonetheless, it was a sunny day that afforded us an opportunity to stretch our legs before continuing our drive on I70.See more..

5.0Zip KC(211 reviews) - Amazing Zipline Experience Sunday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
We drove down to KC and me and my daughter who is 13 wanted to try something new. So we decided to zip line and I am so glad we did. Darn I can't remember our zip guides real name but one of their nicknames were "grandma 2.0" the other was "birthday boy" both of these ladies were amazing! We truly had a great time, we were nervous going into this but they for sure took weight off of our shoulders by being them. We didn't tell them we were nervous they just had great energy, pretty good jokes lol and were knowledgeable so it make us both feel comfortable. My husband stayed back with our son because he isn't 70lbs quiet yet but soon as he hits the weight limit we will be back. Thank you ladies for such a memorable experience for our mother and daughter duo. I should note they brought the cutest dog along he was tiny and had tons of energy!See more..
This property is located on the south end of town with plenty of free parking. The grounds are free to walk around if you’re just looking for some photos of the house. They also have a decent playground for kids, with Wizard of Oz themed equipment. We opted to take the tour, which was guided by a high school student dressed as Dorothy. She took us inside the house, which is setup as it would have been when the movie was made. We then went to the Land of Oz building that had a yellow brick road walking you through the Wizard of Oz story, with Dorothy narrating along the way. We were impressed with the young woman’s knowledge and acting throughout the tour. Since we were the only ones on the tour, it took about 25 minutes. Overall for $12.50 a person, I’d say it’s a decent deal for those that are fans of the movie and would like a more in-depth experience.See more..
4.0Great Wolf Lodge(160 reviews) - Kid had a blast Amusement & Theme Parks
We stayed at the beginning of the month and it was a slower time but it made it perfect for the water park. The food was disappointing, pricy for the taste and options. So happy that there are plenty of options close by that we could run down the street for food and head back to the resort. The room was nice only downside was it smelled like wet dog. We got used the smell that it didn’t effect the stay. The carpet floors near the elevators on the 3rd and 4th floor and going towards the magic quest are starting to tear and my senior mom thankfully caught herself before tripping and falling. The staff said they know but made not effort to tape it down or fix it. My 8 year old had so much fun and now wants to do her birthday party there. Wish one was closer to home, so her friends could join.See more..
4.5Coronado Heights(155 reviews) - Coronado Heights... Thoroughly Enjoyed Parks
So glad we stopped by during a recent visit through Kansas. Had Coronado Heights as a site to visit and it did not disappoint. So impressive as it rises up over the lower topography. Road winds up around the hill, and on top is the "castle" as well as some picnic facilities. This area marks were Coronado was said to have traveled and explored, and while the castle itself is a 1930s WPA creation, it lends to the surrounding unspoiled beauty to give a definite sense of the past. Signage in the building notes dates. The views (as many have noted) are lovely and there are some hiking trails. Traveled with our 2 dogs so it was a nice opportunity to walk them as well. Very accessible. A definite stop if you're in the area.See more..
Awesome Park & Zoo! Great place to spend some quality family time. Lots of playground equipment for kids of all ages in the Park as well as VERY inexpensive carousel rides, train rides, and mini golf. For a free zoo, it is really nice. The monkeys on Monkey Island are always entertaining and active. Monkey Island is home to the famous Miss Able space monkey. With a short stroll to the ravine you will find a cougar and bears in a natural habitat.See more..
4.5Sedgwick Park(105 reviews) - Great place to Camp Parks
The park is HUGE and surrounds a large lake a short distance. Reservations are first come, first served, but not to worry... we arrived on Labor Day Sunday at 7pm and got a choice spot under a tree with electric for $12 per night (less senior discount). Tent sites can be found on the water They have 3 beaches, a bait shop the size of a small supermarket, with fishing and RV supplies, a boat launch, shower houses and even a shooting range... and some of the best sunrises you’ll see. I visited Ernie Miller Nature Park the second time for hiking knowing that the Visitor Center would closed during the Lockdown. I hiked the about- a-mile plus long South Trail and had a good work out. Be aware that most of the trail is dirt and rocky, so it could be slippery under wet conditions. The trail crosses a little creek a couple of times, but the crossings were easy to get across. The Prairie grass field is a special attraction. I have toured the Visitor Center before and it is worth a visit.See more..
There were so many white-tailed deers! My dog was going bananas over them and we had to leash her up. We were on a trail very near the lake, and the sounds of the water crashing onto the beach were so amazing. The sunset was so beautiful and make the trees in the distance seen pink. I got some good photos of the sunset.See more..
4.5Wamego City Park(63 reviews) - Looked amazing covered in snow. Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Gardens • Playgrounds
12 acre park with 2 acre fishing pond and modern playground. Several features to note: working Dutch Windmill (1879), statues from 1893 Chicago World's Fair (read: Devil in the White City). The Wamego Museum and historical village is nearby and morphed with the park. Children's train and depot. The park is the epicenter for festivals (Tulip festival, OZ Fest, 4th of July, etc).See more..
We were camping at Kanopolis State Park. This is about 15 minutes away. We found out why they call this area "the smokey hills". The morning fog & the rolling hills were beautiful. There's 2 areas with parking on both sides of the road. There's a pit toilet. The short trail on the pit toilet side takes you to some rock formations surrounded by corn fields. The rock formations on the other side of the road are out in the open. There's a short trail up a rocky hill with a view of the rocks below. Some of the graffiti on the rocks are pretty old. I had fun looking at the dates. The state park site says there's a $5 day use fee, but no one was there checking. There were 4 cars there when we left.See more..
Big Bluestem Campground Site #78 has both water and 50/30A/120V connection; IMO one of the best camping sites. Plus a large shade tree to block the setting sun. We were able to put our kayaks in right from our sites. Also caught several catfish just sitting at the picnic table. Known as the clearest lake and largest salt water lake in KS, and that not mentioning the beautiful rock formations; reminiscent of Utah. Fishing was great with worms from the marina; stripe bass, catfish, perch and sunfish were hitting hard. Rolling grassy hills with plateaus, easy lake access, hiking trails, bike trails, boat rentals, playgrounds and beaches. Lots to do! Water level was normal, so some rock formations were beneath the surface. Water was very clear, visibility was probably 50’.See more..

4.5Milford State Park(47 reviews) - First time camping Sunday: State Parks
Me and my boyfriend's first time camping, we live in Wichita and we got there in less than 2 hours, we got an awesome spot to put up a tent, restrooms and showers weren't far. Beautiful relaxing views, lush and green. The areas looked clean and everyone around us were nice and considerate of their music volume. We had a walking trail near us, lots of noisy birds though but it's part of the scenery. I could had stayed a few extra nights.See more..
4.0Scott State Park(47 reviews) - Small lake in Western Kansas Sunday: State Parks
It's okay but it's a lake in arid-looking Western Kansas...who knew!? Just a few miles north of Scott City, it's a small lake with some nice bluffs. I took my road bike and got around nicely in a short amount of time. Saw some baby Canadian Geese (yes they are dirty birds who can ruin beaches, etc) and a whitetail deer. And I biked for no more than 30 minutes. Saw plenty of camping opportunities, and some kayaks are available for rent though I did not check into that. Would enjoy hiking some of the bluffs. Biked up to the ruins. Cool history but that's about it. The most interesting thing to me was a short hike around Punished Woman's Fork (site of the last Indian battle in Kansas) just outside the lake. Pretty and quick little hike and some neat history there.See more..
Grandkids and I hiked the horse thief hiking trail. It was amazing to see areas I never knew existed and I've lived here all my life. It was not that strenuous for an almost 70 year old and the photography was great. Streams, caves, ravines....all kinds of terrain. We did a circle of about 2.5 miles round trip. Plenty of parking but this was in February so good time to go plus snakes are not out. Bring water and sun shade of sorts. You will need tennis shoes or boots.See more..

4.5Gezer Park(42 reviews) - One of the better small parks in the Leawood area Parks
One of the better small parks in the Leawood area. Leawood is a sister city with the Gezer region of Israel. Many of the art and design of the park is meant to reflect the look and feel of Gezer. It has a small hilly area with grape vines growing. There are two gazebos with picnic tables, bathroom facilities and children's playground. Great walking path with disposable bag stations for dogs walkers. The park and water features are very clean and the general upkeep of the park is meticulous.See more..
The park provides a great view of Kansas City. As of late 2019, the sign is wrong. If heading South you see a sign on the right side of the road with a left arrow saying "Kaw Point Lewis and Clark Park" you missed the turn and are headed to the highway. The entrance is on Public Levee Road (there's a traffic light) and it looks like an industrial parking lot. The park is hidden behind the relatively new industrial buildings.See more..
This park is very close to where I live so I walk there on a regular basis. It’s always fun to see the kids playing on the swings . There is a ramp for small fishing boats and there are always people fishing from the banks also. There is also a shelter for celebrations and parties .See more..

4.5High Park(31 reviews) - Great for fishing and walking Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Playgrounds
Just took the grandkids to the park for some fishing and playing on the playground equipment. This was the first time fishing for one of them and they did catch a catfish. It was a great time for all of us. I have been there many times for Derby events, fishing, walking on the trails, taking brush to the brush drop off site or just enjoying the playgrounds with the grandkids. The park is very well maintained and just a great place to take some time off. Also great for sporting events as well as facilities for family reunions..See more..
4.5Elk City State Park(31 reviews) - Challenging mountain biking State Parks • Parks
The bike trails start at the north side of the dam by the spillway with several sections available for all riding capabilities. 4.5South Park(31 reviews) - The flowers are worth the visit.Free summer concerts are awesome.Playground for kids. Parks • Gardens • Playgrounds
I always feel safe and "at home" in this park. I also patronize a small but sufficient seasonal Farmer's Market here on Tuesday afternoons featuring local produce and vendors.See more..
Having recently moved to Garden City we are taken back by this gianormous pool and how cheap it is for the residents here! Seriously--- a dollar gets you an all day pool fun day. The do a good job of keeping it up with modern slides and cosmetic appeal. The down side of this pool is that because it is sooooo very large the water is never really warm...even of the hottest days. They only open it on hot days and when school resumes it shuts down quick. At one time they used to run boats on this thing so when I say big.... expect it!See more..
4.5Prairie Dog State Park(23 reviews) - SO relaxing, beautiful place to crash, just didn't want to leave. State Parks • Parks
September 2019 on the way to Rapid City S.D. from Manhattan, KS, this location is a treasure to just to crash in. The day we had stop was a breezy warm day, just a few walking steps to a nearby park overlooking a lake. So nice to unwind and felt so refresh afterward from that long drive. 4.5Kill Creek Park(23 reviews) - Great place to hike, bike, and fish. Spent 2-3 hours Parks
We live near Kill Creek park and rarely do we go more than a week without visiting. The lake is stocked with trout three times a year. Our freezer is stocked with beautiful trout. It's such a peaceful and pretty place to hike, either on the paved path or on the trails in the woods. The paved path is nice for biking, not very hilly but also not so busy that you have to fight for space. We use the park year round. There is an area for parking and unloading horse trailers and paths for horseback riding. There is also a beach for swimming in the summer. There are several nice pavilions and a playground. Beautiful!See more..
This was a great stop. They have two trails. One is 1 1/5 mile and goes along the rim of the badlands with a couple viewing areas. The other is 1/4 mile and goes to a viewing site. There is great signage with birds, animals, and plants you might see. The sky seemed to go on forever! There is a $5 state park fee. Credit cards were not accepted that day, and we had to search our car for exactly $5. There are good restrooms. We also ate lunch there. This is a newer state park showcasing the grasslands of Kansas, and we are happy we stopped.See more..

4.5Mill Creek Streamway Park(21 reviews) - New to the area, happy to have the outdoor space Spent 2-3 hours Parks
I am new to the KC area, and was taken here with a friend. I typically bike, but on this day we opted to walk. There are beautiful views of the water and landscape, the trails are well maintained, and as the elevation becomes more substantial, there is a wide assortment of sitting spots available. Apart from walking, there is hiking, bicycling (both on and off road), and horse riding trails available. All free, with plenty of parking options. This links into the greater trail system of Johnson County for those wishing to acquire some mileage.See more..
This is a public place and what's magical about it is that users tend to show an inner understanding of how to behave and respect others, with rare teenage exceptions. The lake was beautiful. We enjoyed the quiet underneath the big trees and green grass while looking at the lake. We stayed in the Cheyenne cabin. Appreciated the airconditioning and shower! Nothing fancy, but better than a tent. We were able to grill, have a fire pit, but then go inside to make dinner and sleep in a bed. They have basic pots and pans and silverware, but some were in bad condition like the handle being broken. If there is something you know you'll need, bring it with you.See more..
