The windows may be the most beautiful I have ever seen. They are made of favril glass by Tiffany and were installed in 1911. The colors are produced by adding cobalt, gold, copper and other additives and enhanced by modifying surface textures, layering glass or wrinkling the surface. No paint, enamels or stains were used. I particularly loved close-ups, some photos are provided, with examples of amazing detail, texturing and layering.See more..
The Cathedral has been renovated, but keeping with a classic style. It has beautiful windows, statues, etc. and the altar is beautiful. The ceiling has been repainted with such attention to detail. Mass during the weekdays at noon is always quiet and peaceful, the perfect place to pray.See more..
We occasionally go out of our way to go to church here. The attendance is very good for such an out of the way small town. And of course, the history.... the relevance of this place on the map of Korean War history and Fr. Kapaun makes this especially special.See more..

4.5St. Benedict Abbey(7 reviews) - Such A Beautiful Benedictine Abbey Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
This Benedictine Abbey Church is very beautiful and so worth a visit. The Abbey Church was built in the 1950s and reflects a mid-century design. The fresco behind the altar is stunning and something which needs to be view while sitting in one of the front pews. If you view it in that manner you may sit an truly absorb the beauty and it's meaning. This Abbey Church is warmed by wonderful natural light from the windows which makes it very welcoming. It is so enjoyable to be in the Abbey Church when the Benedictine Monks are there in early morning, noon, or evening prayer.See more..

5.0Memorial Chapel(2 reviews) - Picturesque, Built After Custer Killed Churches & Cathedrals
Chapel built by prisoners and opened 1878, two years AFTER Little Big Horn, so no, he did not visit this chapel. But it is still worth a visit, currently closed due to Covid but the prettiest times to see the chapel are in winter after a snow, and autumn with leaves turning. Sits within view of original pioneer wagon ruts leftover from the trails.See more..

2.0Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church(2 reviews) - A concrete pad Churches & Cathedrals What you think of it depends on your disposition. Labyrinths seem to be in and a fixture in the Narthex of European Cathedrals. Having one outdoors is quite another matter especially when it's cold and windy. Corn mazes were recently popular but this one is painted on concrete. See more..
3.0Community Christian Church(2 reviews) - What a wonderful place to visit Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals We had wanted to worship with the folks at this Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Community Christian Church but had to stay overnight 2 hours away. We arrived after services were over and most members had departed. We expected that we were only going to be able to walk around the outside and snap a few photos. The maintenance man spotted us as he was locking the doors and invited us in. He supplied us with a map and tour directions and set us about on our own, and told us to take as many photos as we wanted! It is a marvelous building and the warm welcome was astounding!See more..
5.0St. Mary's Church(1 review) - Historic Church with beautuful architecture and statues Churches & Cathedrals This little church is well worth the stop off the beaten path. It's listed as one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas. The church has been beautifully restored with wonderful woodwork, decoration, and over 52 statues throughout the church. The stained glass windows are amazing. There is a pre WWII Grotto just outside the church dedicated to praying to Rosary. The stations of the cross along the walls are wonderful. Large Pipe organ upstairs. We just sat a while and enjoyed the beauty.See more..
4.0Saint Joseph Church(1 review) - This is a beautifully maintained Piece of History Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
I love old churches. They are always so interesting to look at .. the details, the architecture, the art and this is not exception. Beautifully maintained Building with some interesting history to it. They do leave the building open at least during the day and evening so you may walk in. If you like a bit of history and some interesting things to see ... I wouldn't hesitate to take a stop here ... stretch the legs and go for a wander.See more..
Was driving by here and saw this church as I passed and looked like a unique "worth it to turn around and stop" kind of place in the middle of the Kansas Prairie. Building is certainly interesting and over a century old. Everything well maintained which is often a problem these days. I love the architecture and history but inorder to find the history, you have to search online ... they may be better served to put a sign plaque or something to tell more of the story. Still worth the stop to me and a cool country church in middle of the plains.See more..
5.0Sunset Spiritualist Church(1 review) - Interesting Historic Sunset Spiritualist Church Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals Founded in 1881. Members like to say that ‘Sunset Spiritualist Church & Camp is in the middle of nowhere, literally.’ The drive to the church takes you through some very nice country, rolling hills, and farmland. Sunset Church and Camp have been teaching the truths of Spiritualism for over 133 years. They hold events throughout the year. There is some onsite accommodation which is very nice and VERY inexpensive. They have a small cafe and some really great pies. If you'd like to attend their events and are a camper you can pitch and have access to electricity for a very reasonable price. In June of 2018, the church held a 9-day event of Free Classes & Lectures. Spiritualist Mediums, Psychics, Readers, Healers & Bodyworkers were available. On October 13-14th, 2018 they will be holding a class on Crystals and Stones, along with a Healers and Bodyworkers. The classes and events are well organized and enjoyable. Services and lectures are held most Sundays. If you are into religious history, Kansas history and native stone architecture then you should take the time to visit Sunset Spiritualist Church and Camp. Come to see the historic native stone church and a wonderful example of religious history in Kansas. Just a 30-minute drive north of Salina, KS.
