This is a museum near the KU Union (and parking). A friend and I visited this place, after I heard about Comanche, General Custer's Horse (& only survivor of Little Big Horn for the US Calvery side), from another friend who lives there. The building is named after naturalist and taxidermist named Dyche. There is his taxidermy display that was for 1893 Chicago fair. The first level is all the taxidermy items, but there are live lizards and snakes in the upper floors along with other fossils and find. They even have a bee hive, with windows to see the activities and a clear plastic tube where the bees fly in and out. The top floor has more interactive items to engage children (and adults who are young at heart.) The basement does include a "bug room" again children interactive area. I enjoyed this little museum. They have a suggested donation (fee) of $7 for adults and $4 for children. See more..

This is a privately funded museum with ties to Smithsonian Institute offering revolving exhibits and programs year round in the southern Kansas City, Kansas metro area. My husband and I enjoy going several times thru out the year as Great Hall exhibits are rotated in and out. We have taken grandchildren at times and they love the second floor which is a rotating "hands on" children museum revolving around nature and science. We appreciate it is a comfortable "outing" of 1-3 hours depending on how long we want to take. You aren't overwhelmed or feel you have to "race" thru to see what you want on any given visit. Parts of the museum facility are open to public for free and some exhibits are a fee admission. It is located in middle of a couple nice outdoor mall areas offering restaurants, movie theater, shopping, etc. No problem spending time in this area for anyone. See more..
