Perfect spot for winter camping. What a great location. In the winter the RV camping spots are in the middle of the TARC drive through Christmas light show. It was wonderful and not noisy. I enjoyed walking the lights in the evening. It might be a little busier on the weekend, but my Wednesday night stay was excellent. And the price is right!!! Power only in the winter, no restroom or shower but I saw that on the website and was prepared.See more..

We absolutely loved camping here. Large campsites with covered concrete patios and new BBQ grills. 50 amp W/E. Lots of space between individual campsites. Abundance of shade and campsites are all lakeside. Showers are very nice and clean. Lots of green space for yard games, etc. So very quiet and serene and the night sky is simply amazing. Great for bird watching, we actually had the pleasure of many barred owls in the trees around our campsite. Really fun to watch and listen to. Pioneer Walking trail is near the dam, 1.4 mile loop through woods and along/across a stream. Lake is about 1 mile from town of Council Grove and everything you need for supplies plus abundant historical sites to check out. We've stayed at the Santa Fe Trail campground at this lake before and it's equally as wonderful.See more..

It is a very nice historical site. Plenty of information signs. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, it is a little hike to the actual falls. This would be a very nice location for a picnic. Lots of photo opportunities. If it is a dry year or time of year the falls won't be flowing. But still a pretty place to visit. See more..

Potter's Lake is a KU Must See. In warm weather, this is a lovely location for a picnic. During colder weather, this is a nice place to relax and enjoy the calmness of the trees and water. You can also see the football stadium and Campanile from Potter's Lake. When classes are in session, you have to park near the stadium and walk to the lake. During a KU break from classes, you can park in the football stadium parking. There is no charge to visit the lake.See more..

Sites are on Reserve America, and we chose Lake View 3, we got there in a hot day (97) and the wind blew like crazy, the second day was in the mid 80's and beautiful, then the third day we woke up to mid 50's. I was in the area for bird watching. The lake is surrounded by some great habitat. There were thousands of geese using the lake. I saw a couple of dozen Bald Eagles. In the past I have even seen Whooping Cranes here. The large areas of habitat surrounding the lake provide opportunity to see many species of birds. The many square miles of surrounding privately owned native grasslands provide the opportunity to see Greater Prairie Chickens.See more..

We come to Hillsdale SP in Paola, Ks to stay every time we come to the area to see our son. This park has premium sites which are paved and prime gravel sites. There are no BAD sites. We can stay for 2 weeks for under $400. Full hook-ups. In addition to your camping fee you need to purchase a state park pass. If you are staying any length of time, it might be more cost effective to purchase and annual pass for $25. NOW, there are more primitive camping areas with just water and electric, no sewer and maybe some with no hook-ups. There is something for any type of camping you like to do. All the campground areas are nice. I've not had an opportunity to check out the showers and toilet facilities as the full-hook up campground does not have them.There are some small hiking trails in the park and a shooting range. Of course there is the lake if you want to bring your boat. There is also a small beach.See more..
