Pony Express Barn & Museum image
The Pony Express was a service that ran from 1860 to 1861 to deliver mail across the Old West of the United States. The Marysville Pony Express Museum is the only remaining original home station from the route. The museum's pride is the barn that was used as a livery stable for the Pony Express. The museum's theme has been enlarged to include trails and railroads. Running only 19 months from April of 1860 to October of 1861, the Pony Express has become a part of American lore. Riders travelled day and night through all conditions to relay letters from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, and back. This usually took 10 days with riders changing horses every 12 to 15 miles. Each rider would ride 75 to 100 miles before turning the mail in a mochila over to a new rider at one of the “home stations.” See more..

I highly recommend this art gallery. It really is a gem in this small town on the Missouri River. What better place to house an art gallery than in this gorgeous historical home. The Muchnic Gallery has rotating exhibits and brings artist's works from all over. I have never been disappointed when visiting the new exhibits. See more..

Could use a little upgrade to the cells and the beds are really uncomfortable. Views are limited by small windows that are obscured by bars. Other than that, with three free meals a day and the nightly rate of $0, this place is ideal for a really long stay. See more..

    - Beautiful and well worth a visit

    Fromme-Birney Round Barn image
This was well worth the few extra miles off the highway. Barn is unlocked and open to public. They also sell very reasonably priced gifts and you pay on the honor system. Very well kept and you are able to walk up to the top floor. There are picnic tables and a small parking lot. We didn't see any other people during our visit. Plenty of info and history to read about inside. We enjoyed this a lot more than we expected. See more..

    - Such A Beautiful Benedictine Abbey

    St. Benedict Abbey image
This Benedictine Abbey Church is very beautiful and so worth a visit. The Abbey Church was built in the 1950s and reflects a mid-century design. The fresco behind the altar is stunning and something which needs to be view while sitting in one of the front pews. If you view it in that manner you may sit an truly absorb the beauty and it's meaning. This Abbey Church is warmed by wonderful natural light from the windows which makes it very welcoming. It is so enjoyable to be in the Abbey Church when the Benedictine Monks are there in early morning, noon, or evening prayer. See more..
  9. 5.0 Kansas City Missouri Temple (7 reviews)
    - Peaceful Visit on a Sunday Afternoon
    Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
    Kansas City Missouri Temple image
We had spare time in Kansas City before catching our delayed flight out, and decided to take a drive to see the Kansas City LDS Temple. It was, of course, closed, but we walked around the grounds and took pictures. It is a beautiful and peaceful place in a very nice neighborhood. While only LDS (Mormon") faithful can enter into the building, the building and grounds are very beautiful and well cared for. There is a very peaceful feeling there and a strong spirit of our Heavenly Father. Mormon or not, I would recommend you have a look. It was time well spent. My answers to the optional questions at the end of this review would be different if I were going to a temple session, but I am marking them as if I were a tourist. See more..

  11. 3.0 Community Christian Church (2 reviews)
    - What a wonderful place to visit
Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
We had wanted to worship with the folks at this Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Community Christian Church but had to stay overnight 2 hours away. We arrived after services were over and most members had departed. We expected that we were only going to be able to walk around the outside and snap a few photos. The maintenance man spotted us as he was locking the doors and invited us in. He supplied us with a map and tour directions and set us about on our own, and told us to take as many photos as we wanted! It is a marvelous building and the warm welcome was astounding! See more..
  12. 5.0 Burford Theatre (1 review)
    - Outstanding venue
Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Civic Centres
What a beautiful theater! We came to town for a concert and it was a perfect venue. A storm rolled in near the end of the show and it was announced that we would be able to stay until it blew past. The staff was very pleasant, patient, and helpful. Bad luck makes for great stories, but that only pertains to the hail damage I was left with after that storm. (No reflection on the Buford- that's just weather in the midwest) We look forward to visiting again! See more..
