First off, don't forget to stop at the Visitors Center to get your passes onto the base. The first attraction you will see is a memorial to the Buffalo Soldiers. You can just drive and look or you can get out and read the history signs. The Frontier Army Museum is a great stop on the tour. It's free and it really goes into detail about the history of Fort Leavenworth. It even has Abraham Lincoln's carriage from his one and only trip to Kansas. You go look at the original United States Disciplinary Barracks AKA The Castle. Even though it is not operational anymore, it still is an ominous sight to see. Then just be careful to not go onto the grounds of the current USDB when you are driving around the base. That will freak your wife out. See more..

This was a lovely park setting. We understood it to be a historical site but there wasn’t really much to see. There was a log cabin and another larger building but they weren’t open - not sure if they normal are but it didn’t seem to be. We went during COVID-19 so unsure. The grounds where very park like. There was an amphitheater and below that trails and picnic tables - we took a picnic lunch and walked the trails. We enjoyed the great outdoors and social distancing due to Covid. It was a lovely fall day so I say it was worth the stop! See more..
