4.5Rotterdam Centraal Station(4.374 reviews) - Day Trip to Rotterdam Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
I took a day trip to visit this amazing city. I loved it because it’s not over populated with tourist and there was alto to see and do. I took the ICD train from Amsterdam Central Station direct to Rotterdam with 1 stop at Schiphol Airport, It took about 50mins to arrive. Cost for RT 40€. I literally walked around the City for 8hrs. From Rotterdam Central Station I walked to Markthal Rotterdam (a must see) you can find all types for food from around the world, get your spices and everything, stop at the outdoor market for fresh fish, fruits and clothing, near Cube House all in the same area of the market. cross the bridge and took the boat to SS Rotterdam, book your reservation for dinner on the ship In Advance. Many cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from, there is no shortage. Overall is a beautiful city to explore and I will definitely visit again for a few days.See more..
4.0De Pier Scheveningen(2.879 reviews) - Nice even on a very cold day Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Piers & Boardwalks
My wife and I together with several nephews visited this facility on a very cold and windy day. 4.5Witte de Withstraat(832 reviews) - Best place to be if you want an alcohol filled night out....... Points of Interest & Landmarks
We walked through this street on a Saturday night after a concert in the nearby Armenius church. It was very very busy. Mostly with young people (20-30), drinking, talking, singing. We had some trouble now and then to walk on due to the many and overcrowded terraces and pubs with people on the walkway. Good atmosphere though. We can see that this could be fun if you are looking for a partner, some fun etc.See more..
4.5Beestenmarkt(754 reviews) - This is the place to go! Points of Interest & Landmarks
This lovely square is filled with trees shading you on warm days as you sit on one of the restaurants that is all around the square. There is plenty of restaurants to choose from, and in our opinion much better choice of restaurants than what you find on Markt. We found that this was the most popular place for the locals as well. From 1595 to 1972 the square was the Delft cattle market where local farmers came with their cattle. This was then replaced making place for a parking lot. In the 90's it was being transformed into the lively square you'll find today.See more..

Apparently built on highest ground in Leiden it is tricky to see as you walk through the adjacent streets though. Still worth setting off with a purpose. The entrance is grand and the tower itself well preserved with a nice parapet to walk around They lock gates so no access at night but a good day time site Nice restaurant in courtyard at bottom of stepsSee more..

4.5Sint-Janskerk(559 reviews) - Beautiful but too pricey. Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
THE LONGEST CHURCH OF THE NETHERLANDS The great fire of 1552 destroyed much of the medieval church of Saint John. Shortly after the disaster, the council commissioned the reconstruction of the most startling church of Holland. With 123 meters it is also the longest church in The Netherlands THE 72 STAINED-GLASS WINDOWS ARE WORLD-FAMOUS Entering the Church of St. John, one falls silent at the sight of the majestic space with the 72 world-famous stained-glass windows. That first experience will only get stronger when you see the marvellous light by the 'Dutch Masters' invading the Church. The rich history of Holland can be read in the large windows. It is a beginning of an impressive discovery along biblical and historical scenes of human emotions. Then you understand that the Gouda St. John is one of the highest rated attractions in the Netherlands!See more..

4.0Het Plein(294 reviews) - CENTER SPOT OF THE HAGUE Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Square, Het Plein, is the just right spot in the center of The Hague. It is a meeting place, trendy, historical, political, cozy, busy, delicious, coolest view, in short it is just party time! Yes, it is also "see or be seen". Can even be conceited and somewhat ingenious, though that is the fun here. Just sit down and enjoy the show. And in the meantime have a wonderful time enjoying a cup of coffee, a savory or sweet snack, a lunch, and of course a look at! And know just around the corner are the historical buildings, department stores, boutiques and all young and old need to visit.See more..
The Lange Voorhout is an L-shaped treelined walkway in the Hague, dating back to the 15th century when the Klooster kerk (church) at the starting point was built. Now it is bordered by many historical buildings such as the Hotel des Indes and the Escher museum. Recently it has been refurbished to become an outdoor exposition of nicely lit statues and sculptures.See more..
4.5Saturday Flea Market(278 reviews) - Local culture Points of Interest & Landmarks
It was a nice experience to visit the Saturday Flea market in Markt Delft. Crowded but still fine as there were many things to see and taste. It represented the local culture. The most common stalls were selling cheese, wafer and tulip seeds. We were lucky to have our visit on Saturday as we were not aware there was such a flea market on Saturday before we came. Highly recommend place in Delft.See more..
4.0Hofvijver(256 reviews) - Dates back to 1248! Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Bodies of Water • Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Hofvijver is not really a pond but actually a lake fed by a water flow from the dunes of Kijkduin. It was created from a natural lake in 1248 by William the second when he built the first castle on the location. Now it is a mesmerizing backdrop to the centre of government, the Binnenhof, and the small tower which is the office of the prime minister.See more..

4.5Plaza Markt.(234 reviews) - Huge triangular plaza Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Apart from the gothic town hall and the Cheese Weighing House (‘De Waag’, both reviewed elsewhere) there are no important sights on the central plaza of Gouda, simply called ‘Market’ (‘Markt’ in Dutch). Many old houses have clearly been altered and some have particularly ugly shop fronts. We had a quick look at the 19th century façades of the former Hotel De Zalm (now a restaurant) at N. 34 and at the former courthouse and art school (hence the inscription ‘Arti Legi’) at N. 27. There is little of interest for architecture buffs here. Yet, the overall impression is rather charming and there are lovely views towards St John’s church.See more..
4.5Wilhelminapier(206 reviews) - The passenger terminal and much more Points of Interest & Landmarks • Piers & Boardwalks
The Wilhelminapier is a former docklands area that has been magnificently gentrified since the 1990s. Always a center for passenger traffic, it now houses the Rotterdam Cruise Terminal. The Landverhuizers plein (Emigrants square) reminds of the times people would emigrate from here to the US. It is now a park with some very striking art such as the steamship chimneys and the impressive Lost Luggage Depot.See more..

4.0Waag (Weighing House)(185 reviews) - Fun little museum - definitely book the wine & cheese tasting Points of Interest & Landmarks
Fun little museum - definitely recommend taking the audiotour as it explains the history of Gouda and the cheesemaking history & process. You would not pick this up without the audiotour. The star of the visit was definitely the wine and cheese tasting with Rick! You can book this separately and I would 100% recommend! You get to try 4 types of Dutch cheese with a wine pairing. The host Rick was great and able to explain so much about cheese & Gouda in general. The wine & cheese tasting was only £12.50 per person and was amazing, would have paid a lot more!See more..

4.5Schiedam Windmills(97 reviews) - Museum Windmill in Schiedam Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality & Gift Shops • Points of Interest & Landmarks • History Museums
The eight Schiedam windmills are officially the highest classical windmills in the world. The eight mills are surrounding the inner city of Schiedam, and it is easy to walk from one to the other. A must-see for travellers visiting the Rotterdam, Delft and Den Haag area. The Windmill De Walvisch (which is both a museum and a shop) is where most tours start, either by foot or by boat, as there is a tour boat (called the whisper boat) embarking at the entrance of the museum and sails around the canal that surrounds all of Schiedam with a tour guide. The museum is operated by the Jenever Museum (Dutch gin museum) and is currently closed due to Corona. The shop in Walvich offers a wide range of traditional and healthy biological flour products made in windmill De Vrijheid. The Walvich shop is currently open from Wednesday to Saturday.See more..

4.0De Boekenberg(55 reviews) - If you appreciate good design, this is worth a trip from Rotterdam Points of Interest & Landmarks
Every library should strive for the design excellence of this building. It’s a masterpiece by MVRDV, the Dutch architecture firm behind Markthal and many other well-received buildings in Holland. The staff was welcoming and the cafe is a nice spot for lunch. Worth a trip from Rotterdam if you’re a fan of good design and/or public architecture. See more..
4.0De Veerpoort(35 reviews) - A nice city gate, the only one that is still there.. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
The City gate is the only one of five city gates that survived... the first gate that was there was built in 1396 and broken down in 1590. The current gate was built in 1601 and once you go through here you come to the river lek, where you can have a nice view on the river and the ferry that brings you closer to the town nieuwpoort. There is a house on top, but I haven't checked if you can enter it... It looks nice and should be seen when you are in schoonhoven.See more..

5.0Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel(31 reviews) - very interesting Tuesday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums • Points of Interest & Landmarks • History Museums
The Oranjehotel was the nickname for the Scheveningen prison during the Second World War. Here, the Germans detained over 25000 people for interrogation and prosecution. Often, the reason was that they were involved with the resistance. During a visit to the Oranjehotel, you will get to hear the impressive stories of the prisoners. It makes you realise just how vulnerable freedom really is.See more..

4.5Molen De Vlieger(26 reviews) - Great bit of Dutch history Tuesday: Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Educational sites
Windmill De Vlieger is a poldermill built in 1621 to drain the Veen- en Binckhorstpolder. Its scoopwheel of more than 5 meters can drain the water from the polder up to a height of 1 meter. The mill is still fully operational and runs regularly. It has been transformed into a museum. The living room on the groundfloor still looks as in 1900. From the landing on the first floot one can see how the large vertical axle transfers the motion of the wings to the scoopwheel. On the second floor different operating models of several mill types can be seen.See more..
4.5Huygens' Hofwijck(25 reviews) - A wonderful tribute to the Dutch Golden Age, a gem of a museum Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • History Museums
Possibly one of the nicest 'small museums' I every visited. Together with the garden and the audio tour you can still spend easily 2 hours there. Especially in 'corona time' with fewer visitors allowed it is even more comfortable. Interesting stories, enthusiastic guide in the house, and cool sense of history from the recently excavated ice cellar to the space exposition in the attic. It really is a gem. Possibly it is more exciting for Dutch people because of the greatness of both Constantijn and esp Christiaan Huygens and their lasting and even increasingly acknowledged legacies. But still, as a manifestation of the great Golden Age every one should be able to enjoy that it has been rescued and can still be visited today.See more..
4.5Bunker route(24 reviews) - Hard going pathways but recommend Points of Interest & Landmarks • Battlefields
When you arrive the bunkers entrance looks like a footpath so you need to park on the area opposite and walk down the sandy path. It is not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs. The route takes about 30-40 mins and the signage all has English translations on. There’s not much to it if I’m honest but we really enjoyed it. And it is free!!! Because the sand is so fine, the pathways are a killer for your legs and it was a very hot day. I’d recommend if it’s in the area or en route somewhere but I wouldn’t travel for miles to see it.See more..
4.0Arend Maartenshof(23 reviews) - Result of fearing God? Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Arend Maartenszoon, Dordrecht's financial man in the early 1600s made the creation of this small court (hofje) with simple houses possible. You can admire no less than 14 portraits of him, his three spouses and children in the Regentenkamer at the right side of the beautiful Renaissance style gate. A stern looking man. Son of a priest and his housekeeper Arend specialized in accounting. Through different marriages he manoeuvered himself cleverly upwards and became a pivotal member of Dordrecht's elite. His reputation among the common people was rather tarnished by his practice as a moneylender charging usury interest. Towards the end of this long life (died at the age of 74 in 1629) he made philantropic gestures like the founding of this 'hofje' where poor women and widows of soldiers could find a decent place to live. Was Arend fearing God's judgement? Not only the dwellings and gate are beautiful but also the five majestic platans in the center of the court.See more..

4.0De Watertoren(17 reviews) - The most beautiful water tower I have ever seen in my life! Points of Interest & Landmarks
What were they thinking when they built this? I assume it was something like "we have too much money and have no idea what to do with it". Anyway. What they ended up with was a water tower that looks like it belongs to a fairytale castle. The biggest drawback of this tower that it is not open for the public to visit. But still a sight to behold.See more..

4.5Korenmolen De Hoop(16 reviews) - A beautiful working corn mill Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
The visit was free to enter, and the staff were very friendly and informative. The stairs are incredibly steep but you have to go up, as it's so rewarding to see the views and the mechanisms in action. The wind when we were there was quite strong so the miller decided to curl up, and so lessen the area of, the sail covers. Excellent!See more..

4.0The Ruins Of Teylingen(13 reviews) - Its a old castle ruin in middle of tulip country Tuesday: Points of Interest & Landmarks
This old castle ruin is tucked in the outskirts of Sassenheim on the way to Voorhout. Don't blink or you will miss it. Only open from 1400 -1700 Friday-Sunday it was hard to ever get to this location when it was open. It over looks the fields and gives a history in Dutch (you can also ask for an English guide brochure). 3 Euros and you can walk around the location and climb about 40 stairs to what was part of the old tower. Not in the best of condition as time has taken its toll on this structure but it can give you an idea what it must have been like in this area in and around the year 1200. It was the home of Countess Jacoba van Bieren (1400's) who owned as great deal of land in the area part of what is now the Keukenhof Gardens. If you are into castles and old history this is a good place to visit. Added bonus was a tulip self pick garden right next door. 5 Euros for 25 tulips....tulips and castles perfect combination!See more..
