It took over 50 years to complete the construction of this wonderful gothic style tower. The finishing touch was made in 1517 when the spire was added. Ever since the 67m high tower dominates the city skyline. Note the amazing masonry serving to beautify the appearance of the tower. The adjacent church building is relatively new. It replaced an old structure in the 1850s. The tower can be climbed on Saturday afternoons (until end of September). Ticketprice 3.50€ See more..

For ages -until 1911- the tower served as a lighthouse. On the first floor there is an interesting exhibition about lighthouses as well as of the history of the Goedereede tower. Originally the Gothic style tower, completed in 1512, was attached to a church that fell into disrepair and was demolished at the end of the 1600s. The small Dutch reformed church nearby was built in 1706. The view from the top of the tower is spectacular. See more..
