  1. 5.0 Brouwerij Bosteels (58 reviews)
    - Best brewery tour ever
    Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
    Brouwerij Bosteels image
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery and never stop brewing, even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels were such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 of the 7 generations have been Town Mayors. In the year 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of strong speciality beers and especially See more..
  2. 5.0 Huyghe Brewery (40 reviews)
    - Epic
    Breweries
    Huyghe Brewery image
9 of us visited on a Saturday - thanks to rail engineering works we were 30 minutes late to the tour but they waited for us. Jan the guide was excellent and the tasting session was great - unlike the big brewery tours which limit the number of samples the tasters kept flowing until we left. See more..
  3. 4.5 Industriemuseum (172 reviews)
    - Also good for social history in Flanders
Wednesday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
    Industriemuseum image
To be honest I’m not interested in printing or weaving per se; I came here to find out about the growth of industry in Flanders, and its impact on people’s lives, and I wasn’t disappointed. Really interesting to learn about the poverty/wealth of different strata in society, how industry displaced agriculture, and how people moved within and between countries for work, right up to the late 20th century. Some excellent audiovisual case studies, with subtitles in French and English. During the pandemic you are asked to buy tickets in advance for a particular time slot. See more..
  4. 4.5 Town Hall and Belfry (97 reviews)
    - Visiting the city of Oudenaarde.
    Government Buildings
    Town Hall and Belfry image
In the city of Oudenaarde we also have visited “the Town Hall” who was built by architect Hendrik van Pede in between 1526–1537 this to replace the medieval “Aldermen's House” that occupied the same site. Another older structure, the 14th century Cloth Hall, was retained and now forms a sort of extension at the back of the Town Hall proper. In 1999, the town hall was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Belfries of Belgium and France site, because of its representation of the civic influence of the town and its architecture, and on the moment of our visit there was a fancy fair ongoing, nice to see.. 5. 4.5 Ghent University Botanical Garden (67 reviews)
    - Beautiful walk in the park..

A nice discovery in Gent, have read alot about it but never was there so it was time for a visit. Very peaceful place, starts from beginning and a must be for plant- and flowerlovers.. So many different plants, flowers, herbs to see. They have 3 glasshouses which you have to visit because they all have a different climate and you can see special species of plants. Some are even on the list of endangered species. Was a nice hidden gem in the city. See more..
  6. 4.5 Hotel d'Hane Steenhuyse (46 reviews)
    - Real gen of Gent!
    Wednesday: Architectural Buildings
    Hotel d'Hane Steenhuyse image
A real gem among museums. I rarely see such rooms with all details of epoch. It seems like inhabitants just went out for a minute and would be back. Amazing feeling! And it's free! One thing to check before visit - opening hours. They are very limited. See more..
  7. 4.0 Design Museum Gent (588 reviews)
    - Nice break, quite interesting
Temporarily closed - Closed until further notice Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums

  8. 4.0 Gent-Sint-Pieters Railway Station (523 reviews)
    - Historical impressive trainstation built in 1912 but forever in ongoing renovation
    Architectural Buildings
    Gent-Sint-Pieters Railway Station image
This impressive historical train station was built in 1912 and had several and still ongoing renovations. Especially worth visiting is the entrance hall with murals depicting several major cities in Belgium. Because renovation is a lengthy process the walking corridors to the platform are a bit bland and not up to the splendor of the main entrance. Now the station is a blend of historical elements (the tower, the entrance, the older tracks) and added modern elements (the roof over the main entrance). Public transport connections are nearby if you head out the main entrance: tram, bus, taxi are in very near walking distance. See more..
  9. 4.0 Het Huis van Alijn - The House of Alijn (403 reviews)
    - Great contemporary expositions
Wednesday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
Het Huis van Alijn - The House of Alijn image
Museum of daily life: Daily events and special occasions define the rhythm of our lives. Days turn into weeks, months into years. In the exhibition, every museum room is linked to a date in the calendar, which tells a story about the theme of the room. This might be a well-known day, such as 1 January, New Year's Day. But it might be the birth of a baby in February or a couple getting married in September. These events, big and small, show that the every day is not at all ordinary. Throughout the exhibition, you will find numerous objects, photos and audio-visual images from the 20th and 21st centuries which promote a conversation about the past and present. The interactive design offers something for everyone. Touch a coffee grinder and hear it grind the beans. Smell the washing detergent of the past, dance in the wedding room, sign your own charm or read an old New Year's letter aloud. See more..
  10. 4.0 Ghent Town Hall (Stadhuis) (361 reviews)

    Ghent Town Hall (Stadhuis) image
We couldn't go inside and see the beauty. But I must say, the architecture work is really stunning outside. You cant keep an eye off from the Townhall if you are walking in front of this street. Really amazing. See more..
  11. 4.0 Museum Dr. Guislain (319 reviews)
    - Startlingly beautiful
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Museum Dr. Guislain image
We were in Ghent for only a night and visited this as we were leaving. An asylum that houses outsider art. Breathtakingly inventive and tragic at the same time. The asylum is still being used by patients. It is a little out of the way but a tram (No.1) goes right outside the front entrance. Recommended. One of the best museum shows I have seen. Current show is called Unhinged. Reminds you to be aware of mental health, in a good way. So much talent here. See more..
  12. 4.0 Vrijdagmarkt (307 reviews)
    - Nice square!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Vrijdagmarkt image
This square is well worth walking around it, you will find many things to do that will keep you busy for a good 90 minutes or longer. Expect culinary and historic experiences and incidentally, the Patershol is right next to it....just across a little bridge. See more..
  13. 4.0 Post Plaza (272 reviews)
    - Iconic landmark in he centre of Ghent
    Neighborhoods
    Post Plaza image
I walk past this old post office (with its small "Big Ben"-ish tower) so often I almost forget how beautiful it is. On the outside it's simply marvellous to look at, and the Pain Quotidien inside has kept some of its authentic structures (and incorporated them well). Inside it's just a hipster mall, though... 14. 4.0 St Michael s Church (261 reviews)
    - Excellent location for romantic people
    Wednesday: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    St Michael s Church image
Something more than romantic place. The water and the river make the church looks amazing, especially at the night with the lights from the road. Worth to visit it! See more..
  15. 4.0 Centrum Ronde van Vlaanderen (151 reviews)
    - Excellent small museum

    Centrum Ronde van Vlaanderen image
Great small museum about cycling with many high quality and interactive exhibits especially given the size. We had to whole place to ourselves that day. The cafe wasn't anything special but the store had lots of interesting cycling stuff. Worth a visit. See more..
  16. 4.0 Verbeke Foundation (111 reviews)
    - Eclectic and off the wall
    Wednesday: Art Galleries
    Verbeke Foundation image
The Verbeke Foundation is an eclectic experience and totally off the wall. It is very different from a traditional museum and a "must see" if you are open minded and in the mood to be surprised at every corner. The owner is "hands on" so you are very likely to bump into him. It has a restaurant with simple food and good service. See more..
  17. 4.0 The Castle of Ooidonk (101 reviews)
    - Castle Stay at Ooidonkdreef

    The Castle of Ooidonk image
    5. What a fantastic few days we spent at the castle as guests of Count Henry. Spend a few hours just wondering around the property and enjoy the surrounds. The rooms are a sight to behold as is the lounge area, we also sampled some of the regions food and wine and cooked one evening in the kitchen, what an experience that was. A must if you’re in the region. See more..
