Escher at the Palace is dedicated to the work of Holland’s most famous graphic artist M.C. Escher. Nearly all his prints are exhibited, among them Belvedere, Drawing Hands, Waterfall and Ascending and Descending. Here you can see how Escher changed fishes into birds, made water flow upstream and his less known, but very attractive early Italian landscapes. On our main- and first floor you can see how his work progressed from depicting the real world to his constructed worlds. Optical illusion is a key word in his work.An optical illusion depicts something which is in fact impossible. M.C. Escher was a master in this field. An optical illusion literally means doing puzzles with your eyes. The visitor will be able to unravel some of Escher’s mysteries like the Impossible Penrose Triangle by constructing one himself. The extra presentation “In the Eye of Escher” shows various themes in which Escher was involved, like reflection, perception and perspective.See more..

4.0Maritime Museum Rotterdam(766 reviews) - We loved our visit Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
Many of the exhibits here are geared toward a younger crowd-upper elementary to middle school. But we still found them thoughtful and informative. The oil rig exhibit was very well done. Going onto a virtual rig was quite the experience. My favorite part was the maritime themed art exhibit of pieces on loan from the Boijman van Beuningen museum which is closed for renovation right now. Very famous pieces of art including Bosch and Monet. Was introduced to the concept of "pen painting." My husband and son loved the model ships and the pieces in the port you could walk onto. We enjoyed a beer and snack at the cafe downstairs and the gift shop was nice. See more..

Close to the Mauritius, this small museum was a gem. Located in a house, it has several floors of paintings . On the main floor there is a painting by Rembrandt of Christ- spectacular- and I thought I’d seen most of his work in museums and books, but not this one. There are also a number of Rembrandt’s etchings in addition to some really wonderful Dutch art. There is a fee to enter but I also made a donation as it’s important to support this beautiful yet small museum.See more..

Let me start by indicating that as an Aussie of Dutch parents - who lived through the war period - this museum has a personal appeal. It helped me to better understand what daily life was like during the German occupation. I stumbled on to this small museum after visiting the Van Gijn Huis which is next door. The 2 Euro entrance was great value. The museum is packed with donated items (ration cards, improvised equipment and substitute items used by the locals during the occupation). The museum also explains the significance of the Dordrecht area in the war. The exhibits are well labelled - most in English as well as Dutch. It is a real tribute to the efforts of many volunteers. I was also fortunate to have a volunteer walk me through the rooms and tell me much of the details behind many of the display items (mainly in English) and answer my queries. I felt very fortunate to have visited this museum.See more..

The museum is a bit small. It is one anti tank bunker. However it has some really nice artifacts. They have different uniforms, weapons and daily items used by the German soldiers. There is a short movie which gives a good summary of the place. We also did the tour and that is highly recommendable. The Germans made different kind of bunkers for all kind of purposes. With a walk through the dunes, all different types are shown and explained. In addition a second anti-tank bunker can then be accessed which is furnished in the way it was, when it was used.See more..
