    - Great trip
Tuesday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Art Museums
Escher in Het Paleis (Escher in the Palace) image
Escher at the Palace is dedicated to the work of Holland’s most famous graphic artist M.C. Escher. Nearly all his prints are exhibited, among them Belvedere, Drawing Hands, Waterfall and Ascending and Descending. Here you can see how Escher changed fishes into birds, made water flow upstream and his less known, but very attractive early Italian landscapes. On our main- and first floor you can see how his work progressed from depicting the real world to his constructed worlds. Optical illusion is a key word in his work.An optical illusion depicts something which is in fact impossible. M.C. Escher was a master in this field. An optical illusion literally means doing puzzles with your eyes. The visitor will be able to unravel some of Escher’s mysteries like the Impossible Penrose Triangle by constructing one himself. The extra presentation “In the Eye of Escher” shows various themes in which Escher was involved, like reflection, perception and perspective. See more..

    Kunsthal Rotterdam image
The Kunsthal Rotterdam is one of the leading cultural institutions in the Netherlands. With over twenty exhibitions a year, the Kunsthal offers a programme that is dynamic and always surprising. The Kunsthal is continuously transforming, and with its regularly changing exhibitions able to offer crossovers between various art disciplines. From modern masters and contemporary art to forgotten cultures, photography, fashion and design. The Kunsthal's exhibition programme gives it its national scope and international allure. In its iconic building designed by Rem Koolhaas, the Kunsthal stands for three core values: art, culture and society. The Kunsthal is not a museum, nor does it wish to be. Not having its own collection gives the Kunsthal absolute freedom, and making optimum use of that freedom is where its strength lies. With a small team, a wide range of exhibitions and activities are realised with a high turnover rate for a diverse audience. This is what makes the Kunsthal different from other institutions in the museum sector. See more..

  12. 4.5 De Mesdag Collection (136 reviews)
    - One of my favourite museums in the world
    Art Museums
    De Mesdag Collection image
The house itself is lovely inside. What I loved was the collection of art. I really liked the collection, a mixture of studies and paintings. The explanations were excellent and I watched all the videos which I don’t usually do. They were interesting and amusing. What makes it particularly lovely is it is quiet and you can really take your time enjoying the art. If you want to see a very famous painting and take a selfie, not the museum for you. If you love landscapes and French and Dutch art, then I’d advise you to visit. I thought it was a good sized collection. See more..

    Katwijks Museum image
Even in nice weather well worth a visit. Ofcourse the museum deals with the fishing history of Katwijk, but the collection of paintings is amazing, much more than you would expect from an unknown museum. On the top floor you will find a presentation of escapees from the German occupation to England. Well documented and very interesting. All that for a small entrance fee. See more..

  19. 4.5 Young Rembrandt Studio (24 reviews)
    - Treasure Hunt
Spent < 1 hour Art Museums
    Young Rembrandt Studio image
A passing comment in a tourist information centre in Leiden, sent us on a bit of a hunt for the Young Rembrandt Studio. It was worth the hunt for we indeed discovered a treasure: the house where Rembrandt learned to paint and a short film about his experiences as a young artist. Film was short but gave insights into his young life. It was also free but we gave a donation to the studio. It was not easy to find so allow lots of time to wander in a most beautiful part of Leiden. See more..
  20. 4.5 Vermeer Centrum Delft (21 reviews)
    - Interesting peek into Vermeer life
    Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
    Vermeer Centrum Delft image
We had a good luck that in one week we were able to visit both Rembrandt house as well as this Vermeer exhibition. Both are great, yet each completely different to the other. Whereas Rembrandt house is more about the everyday life of the artist, Vermeer Centrum is more about the general portrait of Vermeer, his time, education, influences. Yes, it is good there are reproductions of all his paintings - it helps to see the scale and development. However - having seen some originals in Rijksmuseum I must confirm that they are not 100%. Still very close. Overall, very interesting to see. See more..

  22. 4.5 Rien Poortvliet Museum Korendijk (10 reviews)
    - For those who like museums out of the main stream
Tuesday: 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
    Rien Poortvliet Museum Korendijk image
I admire the work of this contemporary Dutch illustrator and artist. He made very accurate and sensitive paintings of animals and people around the areas where he lived in The Netherlands. His museum is small and it can be seen in around 1 hour or a bit more. There is an interesting projection about him and the works change from time to time. The museum is located in a small island and requires to take a ferry for around 8 minutes to get there. It is right in front of the area where the ferry arrived The museum is operated by local volunteers and shows case the richness of Portvliet's work, specially as illustrator. He created some characters for children, called "kabouters" and illustrated many books with them. The room in the first floor of the museum is dedicated to kids, including the his books and a whole environment created with kids' activities. No kids around, though, which was a pity. See more..

    - Klein ............. maar fijn !

Museum In Den Halven Maen image
Kortom; bijzonder leuk ! De moeite waard ! U mag het niet overslaan als u in de buurt komt (vlakbij Brielle) Kees & Nella uit Barendrecht See more..

    - Kunst in industriële omgeving
Spent 1-2 hours Art Galleries • Art Museums
    Dordtyart image

The Molen De Walvisch is one of the largest windmills in the world ad is open to visitors. During our visit, we were able to climb the four levels (the first two are stairways and the last two are ladders) to the top of the windmill and walk onto the deck and watch the windmill blades rotate. The experience was very worthwhile. The mill is a working facility and staff are able to provide very good information regarding the history and the operation of the facility. I have provided a link to the museum website and this will help visitors plan their visit. See more..
