modern art in a beautiful setting
Museum Voorlinden is a private art collection in a beautiful setting. The museum building is built close to the country house in which the owners (used to?) live. The building is a fine example of modern architecture. It offers great views and excellent light. The artwork is displayed to maximum effect. There are many atendants / staff around and they are helpful as well as knowledgeable. The art displayed changes a couple of times a year, but there is also a permanent collection on display. The entrance fee is 17,50 for adults. If you have a Museumkaart: unfortunately it doesn't get accepted here, not even for a discount. On the other hand: with the entry ticket, you get brochures with an explanation of every work of art on display. Parking is free and the use of a locker for your coat and bag is free. Toilets are clean and also free. My group of 3 really enjoyed the art that was on display, but it changes every now and then. The museum building is surrrounded by gardens which were designed by a famous Dutch garden designer. They should be very nice during 3 seasons. 'We have to go back to see them in full glory. There is a restaurant in the main country house which offers good food at reasaonable prices. An excellent museum!

    Beautiful scenery, (very) modern art
Voorlinden is a beautiful building set in an attractive garden (with a lovely example of a Piet Oudolf garden of attractive plants that provide colour and texture throughout most of the year). The park around the museum includes a walk through the woodland and the dunes. The museum itself is not cheap (17 euros for adults and no free entry with a museumkaart) and it is truly a collection of modern art so not for everyone. The collection has a range of striking immersive modern pieces which means it can be good to visit with children (who seem to really enjoy the opportunity to go underground in the ‘swimming pool’, look at the sculpture of the ‘huge old people’ and marvel at the variety of unusual objects and images on display). For kids the museum hands out question cards that make for an enjoyable tour with the kids interacting, observing and discussing the art. It is also good for those adults who enjoy the genre but perhaps less good for adults who don’t enjoy modern art. The atmosphere is light, the architecture is in itself worth a look with clean lines and restful views and the spaces are particularly enjoyable when less crowded. The restaurant/cafe has a good selection on some days but can get very busy and/or occasionally run out of the selection when crowded
