Taking a guided tour through is your only option for this place. Having said that, it's the best way as well. The guides know literally everything about the place. Every brick every time every sculpture of painting was a gift from a country who supported the construction of The Peace Palace. they ride by on the bikes and it's no longer 'art'. it's furniture. people should be charged a nickel for the privilege of riding by. quite the piece of historical architecture. and...you might catch a wedding party departing from the front doors OR collected on the steps taking photographs for their wedding album. i love this building. check it out if you have the chance. The Town Hall was built over the river Vliet in 1622 and was used as such until 1977. Unfortunately only exterior is to be admired these days. In the upper niche, the statue of blindfolded Lady Justice, with her attributes - scales in the left hand, a sword in the right hand made me think about the judgements, sentencing hold here centuries ago. Government Buildings
Het "Oude Stadhuis" van het Zuidhollandse Rijswijk werd gebouwd in de periode 1964-1967 en in laatstgenoemd jaar in gebruik genomen. Het gebouw werd ontworpen door de architect J.C. van Buijtenen (1909-2002), die voor meerdere gemeenten een raadhuis ontwierp. De bouwstijl van het voormalige Rijswijkse stadhuis noemt men wel de wederopbouwstijl. Waren gebouwen neergezet na de 2e WO doorgaans simpel en zonder opsmuk, het voormalige stadhuis is dat geenszins. De gevels zijn bekleed met diverse soorten natuursteen. De decoratieve elementen aan de gevel zijn typerend voor de jaren 50 en 60. Opvallend aan het 4-laags gebouw met souterrain zijn de grote balcons aan drie gevelzijden en de monumentale hoofdingang. Bliktrekker is natuurlijk de losstaande, ruim 60 meter hoge, zeer slanke toren achter het gebouw. De toren heeft een uurwerk en een carillon. Achter het gebouw een grote waterpartij. Het voormalige stadhuis is gedateerd van uiterlijk, maar in positieve zin. Het is een architectonisch tijdsdocument. Het gebouw was van 1967 tot 2003 stadhuis. Na lange leegstand wordt het gerenoveerd. De opknapbeurt is nu vrijwel voltooid. Vanaf 2023 zal het wederom als stadhuis dienen. Naast de gemeente zal het gebouw ook onderdak bieden aan diverse maatschappelijke organisaties, zoals de openbare bibliotheek en het centrum voor de kunst Trias.
