Awesome art away from the crowds. great for kids too!
Panorama Mesdag is absolutely spectacular. Unlike most museums this is not just a collection of paintings, it is a 3D experience, made over a century ahead of its time. On the way in, there is a corridor with about 20 paintings by HW Mesdag and his wife. The sea and the sky and the way the light are brilliant in the paintings by Mesdag. The story of the Mesdag family is also told in a timeline on the wall. After you climbed the few steps to get into the panorama, you feel like a time traveller. You are surrounded by the painting, and because one cannot see the top or the bottom of te painting, is seems very real. Remarkable is the fact that there are no cars depicted. It was painted in the same era in which the first cars were invented. We didn't try the restaurant. The souvenir shop has some nice, quircky stuff which makes it better than most souvenir shops. A visit to this museum will take between 1 and 2 hours makes it good for kids, also because they cannot get close enough to touch to the panorama painting. This museum gets quite a few visitors, but it is quiet compared to some of the famous museums in Amsterdam. Best seen off season or avoiding peak hours.

    Fun Museum for sure.
Great side trip in the Hague. Small but weel designed and managed museum. of course the centerpiece is the Panorama which the museum has done a tremendous job in making it a real experience in and of itself. I definitely recommend a stop here if you have some extra time in The Hague.
