  1. 5.0 Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (5.137 reviews)
    - Go early or late to avoid the significant crowds
    Canyons
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone image
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River is not as humongously large as the famed Grand Canyon in Arizona. Nevertheless it is a magnificent sight! Best viewed early in the morning (say before 10 am) or late in the day (say after 5 pm) to avoid the enormous crowds which are visiting Artist Point or the observation points on the North rim drive. The views from Artist Point are very good indeed. See more..

    Lamar Valley image
I was captivated from the moment we came upon the herds and herds of buffalo. We were amused when the FedEx driver had to wait for a group of bison to cross the road and the bulls knew just the right sounds to get the calves moving. It was fascinating to watch the interaction among the herd. This part of the park is completely different from others and the vast immensity of the grasslands is stunning. We also saw pronghorn sheep as we drove to the east entrance for lunch. There were many trails along the way that we enjoyed exploring including Slough Creek which is known for fly fishing and Hellroaring Creek Trail that takes you to a suspension bridge over the Yellowstone River. (We walked about a mile past the suspension bridge and did not see or find anything of great significance.) This is a hike that takes you down to the bridge and the hike back to the parking lot is uphill so be sure to bring enough water. See more..
  5. 5.0 Jackson Hole Eco Tour Adventures (2.951 reviews)
    - True ambassadors of the Parks

Jackson Hole Eco Tour Adventures image
My family and I signed up for 2 tours during our stay in Jackson, WY. Ecotours came highly recommended by friends that were out there in August and raved about the experience. Our first tour was with Drew around Yellowstone which took 12+ hours. He was highly experienced and was a wealth of knowledge to our constant peppering of questions. The tour was laid back and unrushed as he guided us around all the well-known spots of Yellowstone Park. Drew's past as a teacher kept our children engaged while providing an educational experience better than any school could provide. Our next tour was with Roy around the Grand Teton National Park over an 8-hour period. Although shorter, the tour took us around some of the most epic landscapes I have ever seen while his bubbly narrative kept us entertained. Roy's background was with birds and he identified all the ones we pointed to with explanations of how to identify them in flight. Both of these tours were money well spent as we came away with a deeper appreciation of the parks. By not having to drive ourselves, we could relax and absorb everything we saw and learned. I would take another tour from this company and have no problems recommending them to others. You get what you pay for and they didn't disappoint. See more..

    BrushBuck Wildlife Tours image
We did a four hour evening Grand Teton wildlife tour with Sarah, and a 12 hour Grand Teton/Yellowstone scenic wildlife tour with Gannon. Both were knowledgeable guides, and we had a wonderful time with both of them. No need to worry about restroom breaks as they were offered regularly. Geared more toward teens and older since there will be a lot of getting in and out of the car for viewing opportunities, most of which are viewed through the scope or binoculars. There also may *not* be sightings because you’re dealing with wild animals, not a zoo, which could be disappointing and tiring for little ones. Highly recommend! See more..
  8. 5.0 Dave Hansen Whitewater and Scenic River Trips (2.287 reviews)
    - Scenic Float
Friday: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing
Dave Hansen Whitewater and Scenic River Trips image
We enjoyed this a lot. Our guide was great. You do not get wet at all on this trip. (We actually booked this a few days before our whitewater rafting trip to get our eleven year old with sensory issues prepared for the whitewater rafting). You get to see amazing scenery, and several wild animals such as bald eagles and mud rats. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because it runs a bit long at 2.5 hours. I feel like they could charge the same amount of money and cut it down by at least 30 minutes. We had our four kids (15,13,11,10) with us and they were quite bored by the end, and they are all nature lovers. See more..
  9. 5.0 Yellowstone National Park (1.746 reviews)
    - Absolutely stunning and huge
Spent More than 3 hours National Parks
    Yellowstone National Park image
You will need a couple of days to be able to travel to North, South, East and West of the Park. The distances are huge. We visited mid September and it was possible to do this in 2 days as the traffic was not too bad but it was busier on the weekend. Queues build up unexpectedly when people spot an animal and then park up on the road instead of in the lay-bys and there is no way of getting past them. We arrived from Cody to the East and it is quite a long journey before you even get to the park entrance. We bought a America Beautiful pass which covers you for all the national parks for a year and means that you can join a different queue at the entry point - available online by post or on entry to some of the parks. Day one we did the East and North and then day two we did the West and South of the park. My favourite part was the grand prismatic spring. Bring your own food and eat in designated picnic areas as there are not many places to buy food - but plenty of loos! A wonderful experience. See more..

We did a full day Yellowstone & full day Grand Teton group tours on back to back days. Both days Brett was our guide, he was AMAZING! So knowledgeable, funny, we had an awesome experience and will tell everyone we know. We had a chance to see a grizzly, elk, moose, etc. Although snowfall closed some roads inside Yellowstone Brett bent over backwards to make the most of the day and show us a good time. So glad we booked with this company! Also, the lunch and snacks provided got the spot. See more..

    Artist Point image
You can see why the painting of this waterfall/canyon helped create Yellowstone NP. Words really can't describe all that you can feast your eyes on here. It's just a very short walk to the viewpoint from the parking lot (which was easily reached during a September off-season visit but is probably much more crowded earlier in the summer). During our time there visitors were easily able to remain COVID-distanced and still get their photos. This is one place where you might just kick yourself for not bringing a tripod. You'll understand... A nice view of the downriver canyon area is also just a quick walk from the point and there's also a path to a lake (about a mile's hike) available from the parking lot. 14. 5.0 Wildlife Expeditions of Teton Science Schools (1.265 reviews)
    - 10/10 - awesome tour

Wildlife Expeditions of Teton Science Schools image
We had a fantastic time on this sunrise wilderness trip - which is a tall order for 18-27yr olds having to leave the house by 5:15 AM. Our tour guide, Bobby Pfeiffer, was charismatic, extremely knowledgeable, knew where to take us to have the best chances of seeing wildlife, and entertained all of our collective questions like a pro. Coffee and snacks were also provided which always helps. We saw two black bears, two sets of mother moose + calf, another lone Moose, pronghorns, bison, and exotic species of birds including a beautiful blue heron and two Bald Eagles. Can’t recommend this trip with Bobby enough. It is 100% worth waking up for. -Sean See more..

Great scenery with awesome guides! Everett was fun and super informative. Originally wondered if a scenic float would be exciting enough for our teenagers but they loved it. JHWW was super flexible as the weather on our original day was cold and wet, they had room on a raft later in the week and allowed us to switch days to make our trip the most enjoyable possible. 100% recommend. 16. 5.0 Teton Whitewater and Scenic River Trips (910 reviews)
    - Teton Whitewater - great whitewater rafting company in Jackson, Wyoming
Friday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing
Teton Whitewater and Scenic River Trips image
Our family of 4 (2 boys 11 & 13) went on our first whitewater adventure and thanks to our guide Landon with Teton Whitewater it was so much fun. We were with a group of 10 people total and my kids sat on the very front of the raft and were "riding the bull" basically the whole time and loved it. Landon made it personable and joked around with everyone while making us feel safe with his expertise in rafting through the Snake river. Everyone from our bus driver to the whole team was great. We would recommend Teton Whitewater to anyone who wants to go rafting in Jackson, Wyoming. It was our favorite memory on our vacation. See more..
  17. 5.0 Laurance Rockefeller Preserve (849 reviews)
    - Nice Loop Trail to Phelps Lake
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Laurance Rockefeller Preserve image
There is a parking lot that holds about 40-50 cars (so be okay waiting if you're not there early, although they have a good waiting system with a line for cars to wait). There is a bathroom at the parking lot and a small visitor center. We did the approximately 3 mile loop trail to Phelps Lake. It's relatively easy with some small ups and downs, we probably did it in about 2 hours with some s. There are a few lookouts to stop at along the way (including a small waterfall). The lake itself is beautiful and there are a few "off trail" paths to go down to the waterfront itself (the marked path doesn't get you to the water itself). Overall a very nice hike with less of the hectic crowds than Jenny Lake. We also saw a bear on the way there right on the side of Moose Wilson Rd. They recommend you bring bear spray on this hike since bears frequent this area. See more..

    - Vacation highlight!

Lewis & Clark River Expeditions image
My five person family participated in a small boat (8 person) whitewater rafting trip last week. Our party was made up of three adults and two teenagers. It was such a great adventure, so much fun!! The scenery was spectacular, and the rapids were just challenging enough to give all of us a rush, but we were certainly never scared. But we did get wet, which we expected! Ben was our guide, and he is the absolute best!! He kept us entertained with hilarious stories of prior trips, while educating us about the river and its history. You should request him if you get the chance! We don't have knowledge about the other local rafting businesses, but I strongly recommend booking with Lewis and Clark. It was a seamless production, and the staff were all very kind and enthusiastic, whether on the phone, driving the bus, or taking us down the river. If you're thinking about booking, do it now! - The firearms (artifacts) are very well displayed and annotated.
Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Cody Firearms Museum image
Well worth the price of admission by itself but the whole experience will create a memory. Husband and grandson are firearm enthusiasts, The collection of firearms spanned from historical to modern, and was absolutely massive. Not only did they have common arms we've all heard of, they had a number of rare finds and odd varieties that I was not even aware of. Each display came with a great description of the history and use of the firearm(s). It's always great when we are able to come away with some extra knowledge. Frankly, there is definitely an abundance of knowledge ( and a bit overwhelming as you don’t know where to go next) to be gained at the Cody Firearms Museum. The firearms (artifacts) are very well displayed and annotated. My daughter and I thought we would be bored, but we enjoyed it as well. My favorite was the old movie and TV show display. If you're a true gun enthusiast, this place will take your breath away! See more..

    42-mile Scenic Loop Drive image
If you don't feel like hiking any of the trails in Grand Teton NP, the 42 mile Scenic Loop Drive is the best option. We started the drive at 7 am on a Sunday (8/30) at Mormon Row for the best lighting for photography. We made stops at Schwabacher Landing, Cunningham Cabin, Oxbow Bend, Jackson Lake Dam, Signal Mountain and various turnout points. We took our time at each place and finished in about 4 hours. Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Fishing Charters & Tours
Jackson Hole Fly Fishing School image
My dad and I visited Jackson in May and booked a day trip with JH Fly Fishing School. The team at JH Fly Fishing School explained to us beforehand that we were coming during runoff season and that fishing conditions would be tough. We decided to give it a go anyway and we were so happy we did! As promised our guide Jimmy was determined to find us good fishing spots and was very knowledgeable of the river and taught us so much during our trip. We were both pleasantly surprised when we each caught multiple fish despite the conditions! We enjoyed our day with Jimmy immensely and would recommend to anyone visiting Jackson regardless of skill level. See more..

  28. 5.0 The Wildland Trekking Company (374 reviews)
    - Llama adventures
    Hiking & Camping Tours
    The Wildland Trekking Company image
Another amazing trip with Wildland with highly experiences, professional guides who love what they do. On this trek, I got to experience and learn about camping in bear country, crossing rivers, dipping in natural hot springs and surviving swarming mosquitoes. This was my second llama trip with Wildland and lucky me, our guide Brett, a llama trainer, could answer all my nonsensical questions about the llamas, treating us with baby llama pictures. I mentioned (jokingly) that I wanted cake for the trip and Brent went out of their way to make sure cake was going to be on the menu! The other shining star of the trek was guide Danielle (Dani) who would point out flora (thimble berries and wortle berries - oh my!) of the greater Yellowstone area and educate us on the terrain. Not only did she make sure we were well nourished every morning noon and night, she administered first aid - checking in every 2 hours on one of the trekkers who had a bad reaction to summer insect bites. Her positive attitude and her inner and outer strength throughout our 6 day trek with 8 llamas and 8 adults was awe inspiring. See more..
  29. 5.0 Tower Trail (361 reviews)
    - Paved Trail
Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
    Tower Trail image
Tower Trail is the trail you’ll want to do to get as close as possible to Devils Tower. it is a loop around Devils Tower. this loop is the most popular thing to do in the park. This trail is pretty easy and gives you some great views of the tower. If you want to truly be quick and not hike the whole 1.3-mile paved trail, then you will want to start off the loop going LEFT when you are starting from the visitor center. (There is a spot once you start the trail where there are seemingly 2 ways to go, straight and to the left.) Then soon you will see the massive Devil's Tower in front of you. but I would recommend doing the whole tower trail (just 1.3 miles) it will give you different angles of Devils Tower. it is the only trail that is paved. However, do remember that climbing on the rocks isn’t allowed without a permit so stay off of the boulders. See more..

Friday: 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM Eco Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Day Trips
    Wild Wyoming Tours image
We selected Wild Wyoming tours based on the tour being led by a local. The tour did not disappoint!! Scott was a wealth of information on the wildlife, land, parks, towns, etc. Unfortunately, we had a cloudy day, but we still got to see so much natural wildlife including my favorite the moose! Scott knew the areas to take us for the best viewing. With the high powered binoculars, he brought we could see them up close and personal. We highly recommend going with a local tour guide!! We saw so many tour vans as we were out and knew we had made the right decision over going with a large tour company whose guides come and go. Scott grew up in the area giving us a history of how the ecosystems have changed and adapted. We learned so much! For the rest of the trip, my husband was sharing all his gained knowledge from the tour :) See more..
  32. 5.0 Museum of the Plains Indian (305 reviews)
    - So Worth It
Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums • History Museums
Museum of the Plains Indian image
This museum is actually part of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West which contains 5 museums: the Buffalo Bill museum, the Plains Indians museum, a natural history of the Great Plains exhibit, a western art museum, and an extensive gun museum. One price gets you into all museums and your ticket is good for a few days. There is a lot to take in so that's good to know before you go. The Plains Indian Museum was by far my favorite. There were rooms full of exhibits, artifacts and tons of information. It was amazing and touching. These are all top notch museums that are worthy of your time. I unfortunately had only planned for a few hours and ended up wanting to see everything. In hind sight I would have taken it in smaller doses and planned for a longer visit (or multiple visits depending on your capacity for museums) to fully appreciate all that is the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. I would give the Plains Indian museum 10 stars if i could! See more..

The camp today features a museum, gallery, walking tour, original Relocation Camp structures and a World War II Memorial. Jack Bayles Photography - Team 399 image
We did a half-day photography excursion in Grand Teton with Jack and Gina of Team 399 as part of a week-long visit to the area. This was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! They did an amazing job of balancing the time for the landscape photographer (me) and the rest of my family who wanted to see wildlife so that everyone had an amazing time. I still can't believe all we were able to do and see in 6 hours, but things never felt rushed, and they were great at tailoring the experience based on our desires and real-time conditions. They REALLY know the great photo spots and animals in this area, especially the grizzlies, and it was great to hear their stories and passion even if we weren't able to see a grizzly ourselves. We left much wiser to the lives of bears! There are lots of excursion options, but if you want one that brings decades of local knowledge to create a day totally tailored to the interests of your small group, Team 399 is the way to go! 42. 5.0 Taggart Lake (225 reviews)
    - Taggart Lake
    Hiking Trails
    Taggart Lake image
Start at the Taggart Lake Trailhead. Easy hike and you will pass a waterfall, over a small mountain through the forest to a truly beautiful lake! We saw a grizzly and a large deer, heard a moose calling.. The key to this hike is to do it early in the morning to avoid the crowds and have a better chance of seeing some wildlife. If you decide to do the beaver lake trail back to the parking lot it is more strenuous (moderately). I actually liked this trail better than Jenny Lake but still highly recommend doing the Jenny Lake hike too! See more..

    Snowy Range Scenic Byway image
My husband and I were RVing as was another couple we know. We all met in Laramie for a few days and decided to drive the Snowy Range Scenic Byway. It was more scenic than any of us could have imagined. It's approximately at 70 mi drive from Centennial, WY to Saratoga, WY on the Byway -- all of it is gorgeous. Libby Flats, the highest point, is over 10,000 ft. Mirror Lake was picturesque. We saw some wildlife as well as lots of snowy patches and snowy mountains along the way. A beautiful, relaxing ride. Bondurant Basin Outfitters image
My day of snowmobiling with guides Kade and Hannah and the Little Jennie Ranch was absolutely spectacular. The tour took me from the ranch headquarters through the sparkling and powdery fields to the woods crossing the clearest and cleanest creeks I have ever seen to their historic hunting cabin where snacks and warm beverages were served. This outfit is professional, competent and fun, and the scenery is probably some of the finest in the world. This place is the real deal. Thank you Faith for making this an experience of a lifetime! We are repeat travelers with Teton Excursions. Last year we did the 5 day Yellowstone and Grand Teton trip. This year we toured the Utah's Mighty Five National Parks. Our guides were fantastic and allowed us to see far more than we could have on our own. Our guides covered the geology of the areas, Native American history, and the early explorers of the area. These trips are a lifetime adventure experience. Aaron found out that we absolutely loved seeing petroglyphs and modified the itinerary to allow us see of them. See more..
