Dragon Mouth Spring is one of the thermal features at Yellowstone you hear before you see it. You also smell it on the way up the boardwalk. The spring roars out of the hole in the rock in a blast of sulfurous steam. A ranger happened to be standing by and answered some of my questions about it including showing me how part of the rock actually broke off the rim in the past few months. This is a great stop as part of the Mud Volcano area.See more..

4.5String Lake(132 reviews) - Swimmin' Hole! Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • National Parks • Hiking Trails
I feel like String Lake is one of the better kept secrets of Grand Teton, and it's possibly because it's parking and access is limited, so make sure to arrive early. The lake is 10ft deep at it's deepest point, so it is absolutely perfect for swimming in crystal clear water that you can see all the way to the bottom. Do be aware of wildlife in the area, we say a moose, a bear and a snake while here. There are lots of people so no real need to be worried about potential danger, but just be aware and make sure your kids are too. The beach access here is very limited, so like I said arrive early and claim your spot. Also, make sure to bring a kayak or paddle-board to fully enjoy String. It's a magical lake and one that we could've spent longer at if we had the time. I highly recommend it.See more..

4.5Snake River(107 reviews) - Beautiful river views Bodies of Water
Beautiful river that literally snakes through Grand Teton National Park. We stopped so many times to take pictures of its beauty. Its the perfect way to highlight the majestic mountain views.See more..
Amazing and beautiful. This was a wonderful walk from Old Faithful. I strongly recommend downloading the Yellowstone app and listening to some of the audio products about the different pools. You can learn about how people used to throw items into these pools for "luck", but caused significant and lasting damage. It would be easy to spend a week (or more) in and around Yellowstone National Park.See more..
4.5Flaming Gorge - Uintas National Scenic Byway(73 reviews) - A Must Do! Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Canyons • Dams • Geologic Formations
If you are pressed for time, I strongly encourage you to NOT try to drive the complete scenic byway AND drive it on a beautiful day when you can stop long enough to appreciate everything and take some photos before continuing on this journey. Take plenty of water, snacks, a good pair of hiking shoes, a great camera, and a map of the flaming gorge scenic byway before you venture out. We had a great time and as recommended by many, we also drove the Sheep Creek Geological Loop. Unfortunately, we only drove half of that loop before arriving at road closure, so we had to double back. Maybe this was due to the previous week weather, but It was still worth it and I highly recommend taking that loop. See more..

4.5Jackson Lake Overlook(45 reviews) - Working at conquering the power of water. Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Scenic Walking Areas
You may ask yourself why a dam here??? The purpose of the dam is to provide water from the snake river for water storage for irrigation in the Snake River basin to the state of Idaho. Jackson Lake is a natural lake whose levels are raised an extra 39 feet due to the dam. You can walk across the dam and see how the construction of the dam was done. Below the dam you can also see the fisherman trying the luck of the fishing pole and the people floating the river for pleasure. Take some time and walk around on the short trails to enjoy this dam.See more..
Took our 7 grand kids camping here this year. They had a ball! Water was great for swimming, boating and PWC use. Gets pretty crowded on the weekends, so plan on going in middle of week for best camping spots. We prefer Custer Bay Campground - more sites, lots of shade, Sandy beachs, Toilets and Trash Receptacles. We always plan on several weekends/weeks here every summer. Only draw back is that in late July, August, as water is let out, lake goes down about a foot or so a day.See more..

4.5Lake DeSmet(12 reviews) - Beautiful Place To Spend The Night! Bodies of Water
My wife and I spent a great Sunday night here after all the weekend traffic left. It was very quiet, and had many empty RV spots left over. We set up right next to the lake and got to view many passing fishermen and 3 Mule deer that came down to water the next morning. We got a wonderful nights sleep. The cost was about $10 for the night.See more..

4.5Wind River Lake(6 reviews) - What a treat! Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
Ok folks this is the Labor Day holiday and Teton was teeming with people, I was literally the only one at Wind River Lake. The only car. The only person in sight. This is located just off the main highway immediately west of the Continental Divide sign. The sign on the way just indicates a picnic area. There is a small dock that extends out over the water about 20 feet or so and there is a faint path that circles the lake. Maybe a 1/2 mile altogether all the way around. The views are incredible.See more..
3.0Saratoga Lake(4 reviews) - Great camping location Bodies of Water • Beaches • Nature & Wildlife Areas
We camped in our truck for two nights. Our camp spot was next to the lake and very quiet. This location is close to town but far enough away to feel somewhat remote. There are several campsites with electrical hook ups. We enjoyed watching several types of water birds.See more..

5.0Upper Silas Lake(1 review) - Wilderness Bodies of Water Amazing spot to set up a base camp next to the lakes inlet. Never ending fishing and located very close to at least 5 other lakes. Be sure to always bring your winter gear being that in the middle of June we experienced snow, hail and rain over a four day period. Inclement weather totaled 2 hours in a 4 day span. Access through Blue Ridge to wilderness boundary via ATV makes the short hike a fun experience especially since you have enough energy to continue on to surrounding lakes. See more..
