4.5Cheyenne Big Boots(152 reviews) - Coolest way to see and experience the city! Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
We loved getting to explore and try to find all the boots and mark them off as we went. We went out around sunset and it was the nearest experience that took us around the city and showed us tons of new places and parks. Would recommend to anybody visiting Cheyenne!See more..
A favorite place to stop along the way to Utah for me. The Visitor's center here had really nice exhibits and things pre-covid and when I lived nearby in 2015. Of course now you can go into the Visitor's Center but it doesn't have all the exhibits it used to, which is quite sad. The memorial is nice though. In 2016 I think they took Abe's head off for cleaning - headless memorial was odd. But its all together now and I recommend a nice stop there to admire it, off of Happy Jack road near Laramie. While you're at it, stop in Laramie - nice town and the University is nice as well (so are the people). The parking area is open 24/7 and its really a Rest Area, but a rather interesting one. It also has nice views of the highway and nature. Very large parking area.See more..
4.0Ames Monument(42 reviews) - Not in Buffalo. Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
While I loved Ames Monument and thought it was beautiful in the sunset. It is not in Buffalo, it is in the Buford area.See more..
4.5Wind Circles(34 reviews) - Circle of Smoke Monument at Devil’s Tower Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
The only way I knew about this art piece was from Trip Advisor. It is easily missed because there are no signs and you cannot see it from the road. When you enter the park, make a left to head toward the camping area. Go past the trailer parking and the walkway is immediately on the left. It makes a cool picture seeing Devil’s Tower through the circle. We were the only ones there at 3:00pm that day.See more..
4.5Fetterman Battlefield Monument(22 reviews) - Visit Fort Kearney first, then visit beautiful Fetterman Battlefield Monuments & Statues
Fort Kearney's museum, rangers, and introductory video provide a great overview of Red Cloud's War, of which the Fetterman Battle was one event. There is not much interpretation here at the battlefield itself, just a couple of plaques. Plan on coming here after a stop at nearby Fort Kearney, where you learn much more. I am so glad we visited the Fetterman Monument. The hill gives a magnificent view of the sensuous, rolling landscape. I was deeply moved by this spiritual, sacred place---made even moreso by the fierce battle that took place here in December 1866.See more..
4.5Wagon Box Fight Monument(17 reviews) - American history in a very remote area. Historic Sites • Monuments & Statues
This monument is situated in Fort Phil Kearny, Story, Wyoming. It is a very remote location and not a lot more than a large open area where the fort once stood and a battle took place. The sign tells the story and we were totally alone when we visited, probably because of its remoteness.See more..
This lesser known monument is a real gem and the views from its location are incredible. It is dedicated to the men who made thousands of railroad ties in the mid 1800's. A quick stop on the highway well worth the stop.See more..
4.5Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park(3 reviews) - Quiet and pretty veteran's memorials Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Although this is near the airport and beside a highway, it seemed appropriately quiet. Short paths connect monuments honoring the people lost during various wars (a surprisingly large number for a sparsely-populated state). Each monument is different, and the paths are lined with bricks with the names of loved ones lost. If you like to visit war/veterans memorials, this is a pleasant although sobering stop.See more..
