4.5Hayden Valley(1.133 reviews) - Beautiful!! Nature & Wildlife Areas
We went here for sunset and sunrise. On sunset we didn't see much except bison and elk in the very far distance. For sunrise though we saw a bear at a elk carcass!! It was an amazing thing to see. Overall i recommend going at sunrise to see what activity may be left from overnight! Folks said they also saw a wolf but we got there too late to see it.See more..
There is a parking lot that holds about 40-50 cars (so be okay waiting if you're not there early, although they have a good waiting system with a line for cars to wait). There is a bathroom at the parking lot and a small visitor center. We did the approximately 3 mile loop trail to Phelps Lake. It's relatively easy with some small ups and downs, we probably did it in about 2 hours with some s. There are a few lookouts to stop at along the way (including a small waterfall). The lake itself is beautiful and there are a few "off trail" paths to go down to the waterfront itself (the marked path doesn't get you to the water itself). Overall a very nice hike with less of the hectic crowds than Jenny Lake. We also saw a bear on the way there right on the side of Moose Wilson Rd. They recommend you bring bear spray on this hike since bears frequent this area.See more..

Chief Joseph led his Nez Perce tribe away from the calvary from S Dakota to Canada. They passed through this valley and over the ridges. Amazing feat anytime but more so when you are in pursuit. At this location he had to leave behind one of his injured tribesmen at this summit. Calvary came upon him and killed him. Here you will see the amazing valley and summits around. There are metal-worked sculptures depicting the Nez Perce of which if you take the right angle looks like the warrior are riding on the summit. BeautifulSee more..
5.0The Brinton Museum(83 reviews) - Another museum gem Friday: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Art Museums • History Museums
The Brinton Museum is located on the historic 620-acre Quarter Circle A Ranch in Big Horn, Wyoming and features 19th, 20th and 21st century Western and American Indian Art in a setting that is art unto itself. The Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building includes three floors featuring five galleries, a Museum Store, and the Brinton Bistro, offering indoor and outdoor dining with picturesque, 180-degree views of the Bighorn Mountains. Nestled into the hillside, the Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building is anchored by a two-foot thick, 51-foot high, 209-foot long arced rammed earth wall, the tallest in North America. The design symbolically defines the space, bringing together the geological and spiritual nature of its Western and American Indian Art collections. The Brinton Museum includes the historic Brinton Ranch House, built in 1892, well-kept grounds, gardens and outbuildings, and Little Goose Creek Lodge.See more..
4.5Flaming Gorge - Uintas National Scenic Byway(73 reviews) - A Must Do! Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Canyons • Dams • Geologic Formations
If you are pressed for time, I strongly encourage you to NOT try to drive the complete scenic byway AND drive it on a beautiful day when you can stop long enough to appreciate everything and take some photos before continuing on this journey. Take plenty of water, snacks, a good pair of hiking shoes, a great camera, and a map of the flaming gorge scenic byway before you venture out. We had a great time and as recommended by many, we also drove the Sheep Creek Geological Loop. Unfortunately, we only drove half of that loop before arriving at road closure, so we had to double back. Maybe this was due to the previous week weather, but It was still worth it and I highly recommend taking that loop. See more..

4.0Paul Stock Nature Trail(10 reviews) - Wonderful nature trail along Shoshone river Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
We found this trail after several visits to Cody. It is a 1.5 mile walk along the Shoshone river in downtown Cody but is not well known by tourists. You turn off the main street at Irmas and go down to River View Drive, turn left along Spruce Drive through a residential area, and the parking lot is at the end. It is a lovely hiking/biking trail which runs along the top of the river and then goes right down to the river itself with lots of beautiful views, as well as many benches where you can sit. On the morning we did the walk we saw mule deer (as well as a mother and a bambi drinking at the river), many songbirds and even a garter snake, as well as loads of wildflowers. It was also so very quiet and nice to get away from the tourists in town. The walk can be extended as there are many dirt tracks running all along the river extending on from the main trail.See more..
