JC Penney's got it's start in Kemmerer and you can still shop the original store. It has some of the old features - tin ceiling, antique cash pulley system, etc. to give you a feeling of how the stores used to look. Down the street is Penney's home, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and open as a museum. See more..

I paid over $1,600 for an electric dryer, and a top load washer from this one only household appliance store in town. These items were faulty right out from the delivery truck. Clothes came out partially damp from the dryer, and the washer could not even handle a regular sized of laundry. The inside drum of the washer kept spinning tumultuously while creaking loud vibrations. Clothes were stretched and thrown about in the final cycle, that I had to stop it before it tipped onto the floor. When I went back to the store, the store clerk only looked on before running back to the office to pull out a chart for two emergency telephone numbers. See more..
