This was a great short stop. After a long ride stepping outside the car, the wind took our breath away as we walked from the parking area to the building. A sweet volunteer in a cart picked us up and dropped us off at the door. He explained that since 9/11, it seems to be vulnerable and has large concrete barriers to protect it. Do watch the short video explaining the unique and some unanticipated challenges, but the importance to the region in building the dam. It’s quite an inspiring story. Inside the visitor center also has additional exhibits and memorabilia, and a little gift shop. Since we’d traveled a distance and it was past lunch time we got several restaurant recommendations. Those we tried over the next few days were spot on. The dam is an engineering marvel, once the tallest dam ever built, still standing and without any rebar! See more..

If you are pressed for time, I strongly encourage you to NOT try to drive the complete scenic byway AND drive it on a beautiful day when you can stop long enough to appreciate everything and take some photos before continuing on this journey. Take plenty of water, snacks, a good pair of hiking shoes, a great camera, and a map of the flaming gorge scenic byway before you venture out. We had a great time and as recommended by many, we also drove the Sheep Creek Geological Loop. Unfortunately, we only drove half of that loop before arriving at road closure, so we had to double back. Maybe this was due to the previous week weather, but It was still worth it and I highly recommend taking that loop. See more..
  3. 5.0 Seminoe Dam (1 review)
    - A worthy excursion from fishing at Miracle Mile.
    Spent < 1 hour Dams
Went fishing in the Miracle Mile area, which is the river system downstream from Seminoe. Decided to explore, and drove across the bridge crossing the river. After a few miles winding uphill, suddenly there is the dam, and it is spectacular! Steep canyon walls and a very stunning lake terminating at the dam. If you don't have a boat, fishing anywhere near the dam is nearly impossible...the hike down to the water is significant, and no trails are marked, although animal or unmarked trails may exist in an intermittent basis. However, the lookouts are very accommodating and make for ideal spots to simply relax and take in the beauty...this is simply not expected scenery! See more..
