  1. 4.5 Jackson Town Square (2.784 reviews)
    - Excellent tourist trap
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Jackson Town Square image
An excellent tourist trap. It’s a fairly small square with an arch made of antlers at each corner. There is a live webcam at one corner so that your friends and family can get to see you (if you arrange it right). Some locals told us that the antlers were auctioned off from time to time and replaced by new ones - that’s a lot of antlers!! Definite photo opp. The square is also full of bars, restaurants and shops selling hunting gear etc. See more..
  2. 5.0 Artist Point (1.328 reviews)
    - Indescribably Beautiful!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Hiking Trails
    Artist Point image
You can see why the painting of this waterfall/canyon helped create Yellowstone NP. Words really can't describe all that you can feast your eyes on here. It's just a very short walk to the viewpoint from the parking lot (which was easily reached during a September off-season visit but is probably much more crowded earlier in the summer). During our time there visitors were easily able to remain COVID-distanced and still get their photos. This is one place where you might just kick yourself for not bringing a tripod. You'll understand... A nice view of the downriver canyon area is also just a quick walk from the point and there's also a path to a lake (about a mile's hike) available from the parking lot. 3. 4.5 Antler Arches of Jackson (555 reviews)
    - A Must See
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Antler Arches of Jackson image
The Antler Arch is one of those landmarks you have to see while in Jackson ( like the sign in Las Vegas, it's a must see). It is located in the middle of the town square with a total of 4 arches. There are moose antlers hung upside down at each entry way which say JACKSON WYOMING. Great photo op. See more..

  5. 5.0 Tower Trail (361 reviews)
    - Paved Trail
Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
    Tower Trail image
Tower Trail is the trail you’ll want to do to get as close as possible to Devils Tower. it is a loop around Devils Tower. this loop is the most popular thing to do in the park. This trail is pretty easy and gives you some great views of the tower. If you want to truly be quick and not hike the whole 1.3-mile paved trail, then you will want to start off the loop going LEFT when you are starting from the visitor center. (There is a spot once you start the trail where there are seemingly 2 ways to go, straight and to the left.) Then soon you will see the massive Devil's Tower in front of you. but I would recommend doing the whole tower trail (just 1.3 miles) it will give you different angles of Devils Tower. it is the only trail that is paved. However, do remember that climbing on the rocks isn’t allowed without a permit so stay off of the boulders. See more..
  6. 4.0 Cheyenne Depot Plaza (292 reviews)
    - Historic Gem in use in Cheyenne
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Cheyenne Depot Plaza image
We enjoyed strolling through this grand historic complex while visiting Cheyenne. It's been properly restored structurally and appears well maintained. Located adjacent to an active Union Pacific switch yard that still has about a fourth of the old yard's roundhouse. This complex has been in continuous rail use dating to the late 1800's. Hard to imagine what it took for railroad to build this architectural treasure. Sure glad they did. See more..

  8. 5.0 Schwabacher Landing (260 reviews)
    - Simply incredible
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Schwabacher Landing image
As you can see from my photos it depends on the kind of weather you have. But this spot, made famous by many photographers, is enough out of the way that most motorists go right on by. Even so, it will get a little busy on summer days. Arrive early or late to enjoy the solitude. Walk north until you see the beaver lodge. It is one of my favourite spots. See more..

    The Historic Sheridan Inn image
Constructed in 1892, the Historic Sheridan Inn gave adventurous travelers a taste of Eastern luxury in the West. Through the years, the Inn has remained a hub of activity, offering elegant New Year's Eve balls and the town's first electric lights. Buffalo Bill Cody sat on the front porch of the Inn auditioning acts to join the "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show." The Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places. In October 2013, Bob and Dana Townsend became the newest owners of the Inn, bringing 21st century luxury to the 19th century building. 10. 4.5 Wind River Canyon (203 reviews)
    - Favorite Place To Drive
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Wind River Canyon image
I live just a couple miles from here and I always find myself in awe. It doesn't matter the season, it's beautiful in it's own right. The speed limit is 65 mph with a few curves requiring one to slow down, there are numerous pull-out areas allowing travelers to take in its beauty and take pictures. Just north of the canyon is the town of Thermopolis which is home to 3 natural hot spring swimming pools and a dinosaur museum that offers visitors a chance to dig for bones. The canyon offers fishing and some white water rafting as well. The canyon is situated between two state parks, Boysen State Park to the south and Hot Springs State Park to the north. See more..
  11. 4.0 Pahaska Tepee (167 reviews)
    - See Where Buffalo Bill Lived
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Pahaska Tepee image
After having lunch at the Pahaska Tepee’s The Lodgepole Room Restaurant, we went to see Buffalo Bill’s Original Hunting Lodge. It is free to get in. Walking in was like stepping back in time. The lodge is very well preserved. The area is beautiful, sitting among tall pine trees at the foot of majestic Cody Peak in Park County Wyoming. A gentleman who looks just like Buffalo Bill was there and talked about the Lodge and Buffalo Bill. We could have listened to him for hours but, unfortunately, our time was limited. It is very interesting to see how Buffalo Bill lived. It was built in 1904. It was called Pahaska after the nickname given to him by the local Indians - it means “long hair.” One of his frequent guests was Teddy Roosevelt. Don’t forget to stop in for an interesting experience. See more..

  16. 4.5 Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark (117 reviews)
    - Great views with an easy hike
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark image
We are interested in the Native American history and this stop has been on our bucket list for some time. Don't let the 3 mile round trip walk scare you as we are not in the best of shape and it was very doable plus there are several benches along the way to sit and take in the views. I believe that handicapped transportation is allowed but I suggest that you check that. The pictures do not do the views justice and yes that is snow along the path. They are very protective of any Native American rituals that may happened to be going on and they ask everyone to be respectful while they are happening. See more..
  17. 4.5 Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite (80 reviews)
    - Dinosaur tracks
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite image
This was so cool - we were so glad we stopped. Head out on Red Gulch/ Alkali Backcountry Highway for 5 miles. It is gravel but was an easy drive and was maintained up to the Track site. (Signs do warn you though, if you plan on traveling past the tracksite that you will need a high clearance vehicle). The scenery on the way to the tracksite is amazing - just beautiful. We were surprised when we got there - nice walk-ways, many interpretive signs and well maintained. You can go right down and see the tracks & stepped where they stepped. It is fun trying to find them all, and the kids loved this. It does get quite hot (98 degrees late afternoon when we were there) and wished we would have done this in the morning or evening when it was cooler. See more..
  18. 5.0 World's Largest Intermittent Spring (74 reviews)
    - Worth it!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    World's Largest Intermittent Spring image
3/4 mile walk along the stream on a mostly gravel path, until the very end. It’s a level and easy walk until the end. Climbing up to the top of the spring is steep and rocky. We did it with a 3 & 4 year old, who needed some help. Grandma sat on the picnic table at the bottoms of the spring/cascade. Got lucky to see the spring shut off and then came back on. Worth the hike, for sure! See more..
  19. 4.5 Aladdin General Store (71 reviews)
    - A View into the Past
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Aladdin General Store image
This place is really cool. Back in the day, it was basically the heart of this small mining town. It was the general store, post office, train station, bar, and even the switchboard operator worked here. It is neat to see. In the bar there is a picture of the town when the mine was active. Lots of antiques for sale upstairs as well as souvenirs, drinks, candy and more down stairs. The staff was friendly and seem to enjoy sharing the history of the building. If you are in the area and enjoy unique historic places, check it out! See more..

    Martin's Cove image
Having had ancestors who traveled this trail by handcart, by wagon, and walking we were quite interested in seeing the place where disaster struck two handcart companies. Knowing the history gives one pause as you walk the trails and see the places they camped and trudged. We walked about 6 miles around the cove and to see Devil’s Gate. Plan to spend 3 or 4 hours if you want to see it all. See more..

    Lincoln Highway image
Wanted to stop here 5 years ago, but was unable to because my son was a skateboarding nut and would have attempted to skate the stair set, so we skipped it. This year it was just my daughter and I so we decided to stop! Glad we did! Nice rest area/monument. Wandered around the little museum display they have, collected our free "sticker", which we did not know that throughout the state of WY, you can get stickers! We found out a little late, so we only received one, but will go back next time for more at each stop! They ladies at the stop were very nice and informative! If you are headed West, and traffic is bad, you could stop and wait for the traffic to let up (it was bumper to bumper for about 5 miles before and after this exit) or skip it until you are heading East and its easy on and off to see the monument! Definitely do not skip the chance to see this bit of history! See more..
  26. 4.0 Boars Tusk (28 reviews)
    - Monolithic and breathtaking
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Geologic Formations
    Boars Tusk image
What a great day to visit, skies were wide open. Half the drive is on a hard packed dirt road. Next leg on a firm narrow dirt offroad. Last leg on a sandy more rutted offroad. Any standard suv/truck should be fine. Not many turnarounds so fortunately not much traffic right now, only seeing one car. Its a casual hour out of Rock Springs and while you can see this little spaceship thinh from the highway, by the time you get halfway looks like the land to Oz. The closer you get it feela like you ar "Roland approaching the Dark Tower" and I felt like a gunslinger. Saw a couple antelopes along the way and boy was it quiet. A really nice monolith and totally worth my visit. See more..

Our Lady of Peace Shrine image
Driving through Wyoming on way back to Texas from Devil's Tower, and "behold," there was this very large and beautiful statute of the Holy Mother appearing up ahead. A storm was brewing in the distance, and the stark white of the statue was impressive and beautiful. We stopped and walked around the meditation garden and prayed for our safe journey home. - Outstanding Park and Memorial

American Legion Park Veterans Memorial image
This municipal park and veterans memorial is an outstanding “hidden gem” in our opinion. Stopping in Pinedale on our way to Yellowstone we were blown away by this park located right by the river. A great walk along the river there are plenty of benches to rest at or just enjoy the view. The park probably covers at least 10+ acres. There was an outdoor concert going on and everyone was really enjoying themselves (while social distancing). A great park and memorial for a small town ! See more..

Sommers Ranch Homestead Historical Ranch image
Took my 10, 7, and 5 year old children here. Lots of hands on things for them to do and they had a great time. There is a quite a bit that an adult could read and take in, but a couple hours was enough time for my kids to explore everything. The host was very kind, showed the kids around the place, and answered questions. The mosquitoes were terrible, so dress appropriately. They did have bug spray available which helped immensely. As we were leaving, my five year old declared, “I had an amazing time!” See more..

Breathtaking views, different around every corner. Antelope, badgers but the best was the 6 horse mustang family on our way out. Yes, even in good weather 4 wheel drive is necessary. 34. 5.0 Miner's Delight (9 reviews)
    - Out of the Way, but A Golden Opportunity
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Miner's Delight image
If you are interested in history or early gold mining in the West, then it's worth the trip to Miner's Delight park. You need to have a good map to make sure you can find your way there and out of the parklands. The paths are neat into and around the old gold mining community. There are lots of old structures that have been slightly repaired, but mostly left in the condition they were in when they were abandonded. There are some signs and plaques that are worth reading. It is not very handicapped friendly, but the walk isn't hard. Keep in mind the time of year (don't go in winter as the roads can get bad quickly) and make sure you have plenty of gas, water, etc. in case of problems as cell phones don't always work. See more..

Green River Lakes is about 90 minutes from Pinedale. You will drive beside the Green River pretty much the whole was. The last 35 minutes will be on a dirt road that can be rough. The drive to the lakes is nice but not spectacular. But the scenery at the lakes is amazing. This is my second time there. The first time we had great blue sky's and could see forever. Register Cliff and Independence Rock already had a presence on Tripadvisor and this is the third well known place where Oregon Trail and other emigrants carved their names in rock. There are others but smaller and more challenging to get to. The hallmark of this site is the name Jim Bridger which was quite a trick as he was illiterate! Perhaps he had help. The oldest date is from 1822. I must admit, finding the old, emigrant carvings is a challenge because of all the more recent graffiti, i m sorry to say. Although this is near the airport and beside a highway, it seemed appropriately quiet. Short paths connect monuments honoring the people lost during various wars (a surprisingly large number for a sparsely-populated state). Each monument is different, and the paths are lined with bricks with the names of loved ones lost. If you like to visit war/veterans memorials, this is a pleasant although sobering stop. See more..

  50. 3.0 Rifle Pit Hill (1 review)
    - Hey, this is a great place to take a break!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Rifle Pit Hill image
What’s the matter, been on the road from the Black Hills heading for Denver or Cheyenne and need a little break? This is a great spot to learn about the Oregon Trail and the Mormon Trail. Here is where they dug pits to protect the iron ore pits and the settlers heading west. It’s an easy pull off. Near here you can also see the actual ruts of the Oregon Trail and where the settlers carved the names of their home towns into the rocks (not at this site, but nearby). We have driven through Wyoming several times in the last few years and missed so much of that history; especially if you are a city person or traveling with a family you are always worried about “getting stuck out here.” Here is a quick spot to stretch your legs right on the way!
