Museum of the Plains Indian image
This museum is actually part of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West which contains 5 museums: the Buffalo Bill museum, the Plains Indians museum, a natural history of the Great Plains exhibit, a western art museum, and an extensive gun museum. One price gets you into all museums and your ticket is good for a few days. There is a lot to take in so that's good to know before you go. The Plains Indian Museum was by far my favorite. There were rooms full of exhibits, artifacts and tons of information. It was amazing and touching. These are all top notch museums that are worthy of your time. I unfortunately had only planned for a few hours and ended up wanting to see everything. In hind sight I would have taken it in smaller doses and planned for a longer visit (or multiple visits depending on your capacity for museums) to fully appreciate all that is the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. I would give the Plains Indian museum 10 stars if i could! See more..

    - Wonderful Experience; Must See for People Interested in History

Historic Cody Mural and Museum image
If you are in to history, this is a must see if you are in Cody. The mural depicts events in the history of the Mormon Church, therefore a portion of the history of the United States westward movement. It is within the Mormon Church structure and the docents are members of the church; we are not Morman, other than the obvious historical ties, there is no menion of religion nor is there a 'pitch' about religion. The visit is free and when I inquired, they wouldn't take a donation--I say this because we have paid museum entry fees other places to experience less. In the domed room with the mural, there is a short (8 minutes?) audio/spotlight presentation about the events depicted in the mural; one of the interesting facts our docent explainted was the history of how the mural came to exist and the process of preparing the dome the painter used. In a separate room a history museum also exists which is also very interesting. We really enjoyed our visit and recommend it. See more..

For a small town of approximately 300 people this is an excellent museum. It is neat, clean and well put together. The staff person was pleasant and informative. It is an easy on off from I 80. I was heading west I got off in Laramie. Will go to Rawlings Wyoming tomorrow. PS: If you’re thinking of staying overnight. The parking lot is spacious. Be aware that there is a train track that runs behind the museum. I can sleep through anything so it wasn’t a problem to me. PSS: There is a small ice cream parlor open 1 to 5 PM directly across the street. Price is reasonable. See more..
