    - Indescribably Beautiful!

    Artist Point image
You can see why the painting of this waterfall/canyon helped create Yellowstone NP. Words really can't describe all that you can feast your eyes on here. It's just a very short walk to the viewpoint from the parking lot (which was easily reached during a September off-season visit but is probably much more crowded earlier in the summer). During our time there visitors were easily able to remain COVID-distanced and still get their photos. This is one place where you might just kick yourself for not bringing a tripod. You'll understand... A nice view of the downriver canyon area is also just a quick walk from the point and there's also a path to a lake (about a mile's hike) available from the parking lot. Oregon Trail Ruts image
This was so awesome. After all these years you can still see the ruts from thousands of wagons that passed through this place. You can walk in the ruts and imagine how it would be. This place is free to visit and is a must see for anyone interested in the history of the Oregon Trail! See more..
  6. 5.0 Taggart Lake (225 reviews)
    - Taggart Lake
    Hiking Trails
    Taggart Lake image
Start at the Taggart Lake Trailhead. Easy hike and you will pass a waterfall, over a small mountain through the forest to a truly beautiful lake! We saw a grizzly and a large deer, heard a moose calling.. The key to this hike is to do it early in the morning to avoid the crowds and have a better chance of seeing some wildlife. If you decide to do the beaver lake trail back to the parking lot it is more strenuous (moderately). I actually liked this trail better than Jenny Lake but still highly recommend doing the Jenny Lake hike too! See more..
  7. 4.5 Mystic Falls Trail (154 reviews)
    - Great hike, a little bit of a challenge but worth it
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
    Mystic Falls Trail image
This is a fantastic hike - challenging but not too difficult with amazing views. We even timed it to see Old Faithful go off when we were at the rope. Go to the right first (hardest part) and then come down to the gorgeous falls. See more..
  8. 4.5 String Lake (132 reviews)
    - Swimmin' Hole!
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • National Parks • Hiking Trails
    String Lake image
I feel like String Lake is one of the better kept secrets of Grand Teton, and it's possibly because it's parking and access is limited, so make sure to arrive early. The lake is 10ft deep at it's deepest point, so it is absolutely perfect for swimming in crystal clear water that you can see all the way to the bottom. Do be aware of wildlife in the area, we say a moose, a bear and a snake while here. There are lots of people so no real need to be worried about potential danger, but just be aware and make sure your kids are too. The beach access here is very limited, so like I said arrive early and claim your spot. Also, make sure to bring a kayak or paddle-board to fully enjoy String. It's a magical lake and one that we could've spent longer at if we had the time. I highly recommend it. See more..
  9. 4.5 Teton Pass (124 reviews)
    - Road is well maintained in the winter.
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
    Teton Pass image
My husband and I took the pass from Jackson to Idaho during the winter. I was nervous about the road conditions and steep grades but it was not bad at all. There is plenty of traffic so the road is well groomed during the winter. A fee pull offs along the way were locals go skiing. Excellent views. Doesn’t take long to get to the other side. Be on the lookout for Moose once you reach Victor, Idaho! See more..

  13. 5.0 Popo Agie Falls Trail (25 reviews)
    - Great Hike and Beautiful Falls
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
    Popo Agie Falls Trail image
We were visiting Lander for a wedding. One of our group was checking our hikes online and found the Popo Aggie Falls Trail and natural water slide. It was a very nice hike. It wasn’t too hard and there were not very many people at all. The water falls and views were all so beautiful. I have seen prettier falls but those were also busy. We only saw a handful of people on this hike. We made sue to hike to the natural water slide and took a slide ourselves. It was fun but the water was very cold. Felt nice to cool off but don’t stay in long. See more..
  14. 4.5 Platte River Trails (18 reviews)
    - Great Trail - Easy Access - Platte River Parkway Trail
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
    Platte River Trails image
The Platte River Trail is excellent way to explore Casper, exercise and enjoy nature. We stayed at the Hilton Garden and the trail was accessible from the adjacent park across the street. We enjoyed a long walk on the trail in the morning and also observed lots of locals walking, running and biking on it. There are numerous areas to picnic and there is direct river access for fishing, tubing or boating. Definitely take time to enjoy the h Platte River Parkway Trail and get some fresh air and exercise when visiting Casper. The hotels near the trail should do a better job promoting it and their proximity to it. People look for these amenities when they travel. See more..
  15. 4.5 Elkhart Park Trailhead (17 reviews)
    - The most amazing view I have ever seen!
    Hiking Trails
    Elkhart Park Trailhead image
We were put in touch with a local to take us up to a point called sacred rim. At the time (about a year ago - Oct. 2015), there was really no info on sacred rim and no trail markers or anything (hence the local guide). All I can say is WOW. The view was so amazing and stretched so far that it actually started to look like a painting. My dad actually teared up because of how beautiful it was. Note that it was at least an hour to hour and a half hike up some rough terrain. That - combined with the fact that we were about 8,000 feet higher than where we normally live - made us quite breathless and tired. Still worth every step though! Also, a chipmunk climbed right into my hand - AMAZING - and then the local yelled at me because apparently they bite. See more..
  16. 5.0 Dubois Scenic Overlook (16 reviews)
    - Best short drive or fitness climb to a world-class view
Spent < 1 hour Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
    Dubois Scenic Overlook image
When the team from Google and UC Berkeley chose Dubois as the headquarters for their project to film the 2018 eclipse, they went to the top of the Scenic Overlook for the view. You can get there too, and easily, by driving up the dirt road on the north side of the highway just west of the Town Park. Or you can take a more challenging route by hiking up from the highway and then taking the trail from the mid-level (a popular workout for locals). Either way, when you get to the top you achieve a spectacular view of the town below, the badlands to the east, and the Wind River and Absaroka Mountains to the west. Here, by the way, you can see all four mountain-building processes (glacial, volcanic, and tectonic) from one location. It's also a wonderful place to go to orient yourself if you're staying in the area for a while. See more..
  17. 5.0 Delta Lake Trail (13 reviews)
    - A Challenge but the View is Heavenly
    Hiking Trails
    Delta Lake Trail image
Definitely a challenging 9.5 mile total hike, but worth the prize (view) at the end. Don’t take kids unless they are in shape and very agile. I would recommend at least mid-teen and above. The boulder field at the end (uphill) is no laughing matter and I feel I’m fairly athletic (runner, tennis player, hiker). Altitude also can affect you (I started to get nauseated near the end). My biggest advice if you want to attempt this is to take plenty of breaks... it’s not a race to the lake. Also, bring plenty of water and snacks. Budget between 6-7 hours (includes about an hour at the lake) to take in the sights and take photos like the one attached. May want to bring bear spray just in case. See more..
  18. 4.5 Gooseberry Badlands Scenic Overlook & Trail (12 reviews)
    - Unexpected enjoyable trail
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
Gooseberry Badlands Scenic Overlook & Trail image
There was no one there when we visited. You go through the gate, walk down a couple sets of stairs and begin the trail. Amazing rock formations that you can walk right next to. The 1.5 mile trail has a couple of strenuous places but is worth the walk. Take water and enjoy the works of art before you. See more..
  19. 4.0 Paul Stock Nature Trail (10 reviews)
    - Wonderful nature trail along Shoshone river
Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Paul Stock Nature Trail image
We found this trail after several visits to Cody. It is a 1.5 mile walk along the Shoshone river in downtown Cody but is not well known by tourists. You turn off the main street at Irmas and go down to River View Drive, turn left along Spruce Drive through a residential area, and the parking lot is at the end. It is a lovely hiking/biking trail which runs along the top of the river and then goes right down to the river itself with lots of beautiful views, as well as many benches where you can sit. On the morning we did the walk we saw mule deer (as well as a mother and a bambi drinking at the river), many songbirds and even a garter snake, as well as loads of wildflowers. It was also so very quiet and nice to get away from the tourists in town. The walk can be extended as there are many dirt tracks running all along the river extending on from the main trail. We just did a short loop ( a few miles ) - very clear where trail was and a couple of key spots where trail entered and could review map -- probably should have just taken a quick picture of one. Nice hike and depending on time will head back to hit more of it. Do a search of the the internet - as we were going ; did a search and found a site that had the GPS coordinates that allowed Google Maps to give us a spot to park and go in. See more..

This is a long trail that is paved. It winds along the beautiful Laramie River and is situated just off I-80. It is great for walking and biking or just a nice stroll with your dog. It runs very close to the City of Laramie Dog Park which is large with separate areas for small and large dogs - wonderful grass and lots of large shade trees abound in the large dog area. See more..

  30. 5.0 King's Peak (3 reviews)
    - Make sure you're prepared!
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
    King's Peak image
King's Peak is the highest peak in Utah, topping out at a little over 13,500 feet above sea level. If you are not used to that kind of elevation, it could present some problems. We've seen other hikers be stricken with elevation sickness, which can be fatal, so watch for the symptoms. When we do this hike, we like to park at Henry's Fork. Pack in about 8 miles to the Dollar Lake area. Make camp and relax for the night. The next day, leave your gear and take a day pack to the peak. That trip is around 8-10 miles, but can be longer or shorter depending on the route you choose. Relax in camp that afternoon/evening (best to start up to the peak fairly early because afternoon thunderstorms are common), and then pack back out to Henry's Fork on day 3. It's a beautiful, if challenging trip and you should be prepared for the strenuous nature of it. See more..
  31. 3.5 Indian Bathtubs Trail (2 reviews)
    - Intriguing Trail
    Hiking Trails
This is a rather short trail that loops and which you can find right before you get into Riverside/Encampment, located off of Hwy. 230 from Blackhall Rd. This is a diverse trail which included shrubland full of sagebrush and Rubber Rabbitbrush/Chamisa (which was in full bloom, quite pretty, and getting my allergies worked up), a creek, and lots of boulders. I've read in other sites that this is mountain lion and rattlesnake territory, so be alert. There are a couple of benches to rest which overlooks some scenic views. The Indian Baths themselves are not well marked but are located to the right of an informational sign. Also, they do need to be climbed on to get to, but are quite fascinating. There was very little water in them at this time of year. See more..
  32. 5.0 Jade Lake Trail (2 reviews)
    - Glorious day hikes away from Yellowstone crowds
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
    Jade Lake Trail image
Follow a flat trail past a heavenly blue lake (great for fishing) and then head slowly uphill to these two hidden lakes at the base of a cathedral-like granite cliff formation. In early to mid-summer you will be passing through fields carpeted with wildflowers that will remind you of that dizzying poppy scene in the Wizard of Oz. If heaven isn't this good, you don't want to go there. You can take the entire loop past Jade Lake and Upper Brooks Lake, or simply go to one or the other. Take bear spray! Maps are available from the US Forest Service office in Dubois. To reach the trailhead, turn north off Highway 26/287 just past Lava Mountain Lodge heading west from Dubois toward Jackson. Follow the dirt road all the way to the end, past Brooks Lake Lodge and down to the parking lot at lakeside. There is a small gate an an information sign at the trailhead. See more..
  33. 5.0 Cabin Creek Trail Head (1 review)
    - Lonesome
    Hiking Trails
    Cabin Creek Trail Head image
While there are some good campsites at the base it’s posted no camping May 1 through Labor Day. A person can lose the crowds back in here. The higher you go the worse the trail becomes even becoming invisible in places. But it is an absolute joy to know this land is set aside for you and for me and that it escapes the attention of most visitors. A month ago horse packers had a cabin tent 4.5 miles up the trail. This is splendid country, and its relatively unknown. See more..

    - Perfect Photography Spot for Devil's Tower
    Hiking Trails
    Joyner Ridge Trailhead image
If you want to find the perfect place to take a picture of Devil's Tower, especially in the afternoon, this is it. This is a hidden gem, most people won't find. On your drive up to the tower, you will see a dirt road go off to your left near the parking lot. This is W Road and if you take it about a quarter of a mile there will be an empty gravel parking lot. Pulling and look behind you to see the most amazing view of the tower. There are many great places to get a picture of the tower but this is the best. See more..
