    Plaza de Espana image
We visited Plaza de Espana twice while we lived in Spain. The first time was on a Monday in April 2021 and the place was not busy at all! The second time, at the end of July/beginning of August, it was MUCH busier. It's much hotter this time of year but it does seem to be when everyone has the time off! We enjoyed watching a few people dance (they of course pass around a hat for money). There's not much to actually do in the Plaza but plenty of pretty photo ops! Part of the building was used in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, where Anakin and Padmé arrive on Naboo. Granted it was 5 years ago but apparently in 2018, Plaza de Espana in Seville was TripAdvisor's #2 top landmark of the year! See more..

  5. 4.5 Mirador de San Nicolas (12.9k reviews)
    - Phenomenal Location to View the Alcazar, Alhambra and Generalife from Afar
Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas
    Mirador de San Nicolas image
Though there are supposed to be numerous miradors around the city, we ventured to this mirador due to multiple recommendations we saw. Though we got lost a bit trying to find it, the challenges were well worth it. Its situated perfectly across the Alhambra, Generalife and Alcazaba where you can view them from afar and at night, they’re lit up. Its best to plan on arriving at least 45 minutes or more before sunset if you wish to have a place to sit as it gets quite crowded the closer to sunset you get. Of interest nearby is the San Nicholas Church, a few restaurants, and later after sunset, you may be treated to a flamenco dance show and local artisans selling their wares. See more..
  6. 4.5 Generalife (11.4k reviews)
    - Beautiful Moorish Monument
Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Gardens
    Generalife image
My son and I took a private tour of both Generalife and Alhambra on our trip to southern Spain last week. The guide really helped us see all the iconography throughout the compound, and helped us make sense of things. Going without a guide would also be a lovely experience, though. The cypress tree walk was incredible, along with the gardens, building - pretty much everything. Be sure to book your ticket ahead - only a certain number of people are allowed each day, and you get a timed slot to tour. See more..

  9. 4.5 Malaga Cathedral (7.943 reviews)
    - Outstanding - a must visit
    Thursday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
    Malaga Cathedral image
Stunning both inside and out. Next time I'm going to investigate having a guided tour, so much to see. €12 Euro to gain access to this beautiful cathedral and also onto the roof. Less expensive if you don't want to go to the roof, but I would absolutely recommend it if you don't mind 150+ steps in a fairly confined space. Access to the roof is timed with a guide so if you are under time pressure, do ask at the ticket desk what time the next roof tour will begin. Then, views from the top are magnificent. A leader takes groups up and you get to spend approximately 35 minutes there. Not a tour, as such, but the leader will answer questions if you have them. They also have admission prices for children and 65+ adults. One of my favourite things to see and do in Malaga. There are toilets in the gift shop and also near the roof (if you are badly stuck!) 10. 4.5 Royal Chapel of Granada (7.154 reviews)
    - Very Interesting Chapel and Crypt
Thursday: 10:15 AM - 6:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
    Royal Chapel of Granada image
The Chapel of the Catholic Kings was conceived as a burial site intimately linked to the Cathedral, but without merging with its architecture. It is built with a single nave, an octagonal presbytery preceded by bleachers, a transept with little development and a choir at its feet, for the functions of a pantheon. As a funeral chapel none, in Spain, it excels in size. In it you can appreciate both its simplicity and its wealth thanks to the generous endowment of the queen. The Royal Chapel houses the mortal remains of Don Fernando de Aragón and Dona Isabel de Castilla (who were initially resting in the convent of San Francisco de la Alhambra), as well as those of Dona Juana I, Don Felipe and Infante Miguel. Under the tombs there is a small crypt of marked austerity, in which are deposited the real, lead coffins, identified by the initial of each name on the cover. See more..
  11. 4.5 Castillo de Gibralfaro (6.024 reviews)
    - A good yomp up but worth it.
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM Historic Sites • Castles
    Castillo de Gibralfaro image
A must to do if you are staying in Malaga. A good yomp up leads to spectacular views once inside. Just be careful on footwear as on the day we went it started to rain and the route down in trainers was a slippery nightmare! A €5:50 ticket combines the two sites which lasts for 48 hours, the castle only is €3. A must to do even if it’s just for the view, there is a road up if you need transport instead of walking. 12. 4.0 Real Maestranza de Caballeria de Sevilla (5.605 reviews)
    - Interesting Visit
Thursday: 9:30 AM - 9:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Arenas & Stadiums
Real Maestranza de Caballeria de Sevilla image
Beyond the Iberian peninsula most people are rather uncomfortable about bullfighting, which makes a visit to this venerable bullring with attached museums all the more fascinating – not least for those who would never consider attending a bullfight. An inspection of the ring, and the backstage facilities that sustain it (the Plaza, of necessity, has its own ER) is a good counterpoint to a browse around a museum which is full of artwork and costumes celebrating the skill of the matador together with the mounted heads of their animal nemeses. Go with an open mind and you’ll leave with a much better understanding of bullfighting’s place in the life and culture of Andalucía. See more..
  13. 4.5 Casa de Pilatos (3.744 reviews)
    - Well maintained historical building
    Thursday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Gardens
    Casa de Pilatos image
Construction of this palace began in 1492. Today, part of the palace is a museum and is open to the public. There is a separate wing where the present Duchess of Medinaceli lives with her descendants and family. The palace has many gardens, patios, fountains, and salons. The patios contain many Roman statues. Everywhere on the first floor one will find Roman mosaic floors. The walls are covered with beautiful ceramic tile in many different Mudejar styles. See more..

    Las Duenas Palace image
Las Dueñas Palace, House of Alba's current residence in Seville, was built between the 15th and 16th centuries and is one of the greatest historical attractions of the city. The building itself, including styles from Gothic-Mudejar to the Renaissance, has significant architectural interest as its several gardens and patios with a special charm . With a diverse collection of painting and sculpture, the house also treasures many family memories. The current configuration of its pieces has remained true to its actual distribution before the opening, making the Palace a unique and different place to visit. See more..
  16. 3.5 Sinagoga de Córdoba (1.234 reviews)
    - Small, But Interesting.
    Historic Sites • Religious Sites
    Sinagoga de Córdoba image
Located not far from Puerta del Almodovar- Just turn right down the first street you come to and it's on your right about 75 metres down. The synagogue dates from 1315, but after the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, the same year in which Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean, the building served as a hospital and later a community centre. It's quite small inside, but worth visiting nonetheless. There are information boars at different locations inside. It was free to enter. See more..

    - A wonderful museum

    Muelle de las Carabelas image
We almost did not visit due to a previous review about no ENGLISH signage. We were surprised to be able to converse in English at the ticket booth (1.50 euros per person) receive an English language pamphlet and at every station in the museum read each display in English. The visit was informative and the ships authentic and being allowed to explore each one was a bonus. I would highly recommend this important piece of history to anyone in the area. See more..

  19. 4.5 La Rabida Monastery (850 reviews)
    - Very interesting historical site.

    La Rabida Monastery image
A really interesting building containing a huge amount of history from its Moorish beginnings through the development into a monastery and its role in the history of Christopher Columbus instigating the project culminating in the exploration of the Americas and beyond. The audio guide is available in many languages, is very informative and free with the entry ticket (~€3.50). The building is stunning and contains many relics from throughout its history. There is also a large collection of art work to enjoy. Highly recommended for an hour out of your day. I would recommend visiting together with the local botanic garden and the museum of seafaring containing full sized replicas of the three ships Columbus took on his voyage to the Americas. See more..

We visited on a rainy day, mainly so we could do something indoors, but we were pleasantly surprised (no need to pre-book). The building was beautiful and the tour was very educational. There were 2 tour guides, one of them took around the Spanish speakers, whilst the other one took around the English speakers. See more..
  21. 4.5 Castillo de Santa Catalina (791 reviews)
    - Walking up to the castle and Cruz
    Historic Sites • Castles
    Castillo de Santa Catalina image
If you are used to walking and set off in the morning when it's fresh (we went about 8.30 on a mid-September morning), it's a very nice walk up. You have to start from the Circonvalacion on the city side - if you go straight up from Palacio de Villadompardo you'll come out at more or less the right point. then follow the dirt track road, or short-cut paths up along the old walls. The people in the tourist office will explain it to you, and it's shown on the Andalucia region Jaen map. We are quite fit but stopped to lot ot take photos etc and it took less than an hour. Bear in mind, though that if you want to actually go inside the castle it opens at 10 a.m. weekend mornings and only p.m. during the week. We took all the short-cuts going up and followed the dirt track coming down, you go through pinewood and olive groves so it's a very pleasant way to spend a morning. You need trainers, closed shoes, there's some broken glass and it's a bit stony. See more..
  22. 4.5 La Madraza (772 reviews)
    - Lovely

    La Madraza image
Not a huge amount to see, but worth paying the small entrance price to walk around inside and close up to the wonderful and intricate decorations. Interesting hearing the history of the building beforehand, and learning that the upper rooms aren't quite what they seem in terms of historical culture See more..
  23. 4.0 Catedral de Almeria (645 reviews)
    - Beautiful building in a lovely square!
    Historic Sites • Religious Sites
    Catedral de Almeria image
Visited the Cathedral before siesta & it was really quiet and we had the whole place to ourselves most of the time. The entrance was €6 with an audioguide. The lighting of the place was stunning. It looks quite different from other cathedrals we have been in as there is no bell tower or dome. The stained glass panels are small and set high up so there isn't alot of light which makes the lighting all the more distinctive. The choir, organs and altar were very impressive and it was really well maintained and clean. Entrance takes you through the courtyard before entering the Cathedral. Stunning building & the square is beautiful too, with the many palm trees. Definitely worth a visit when in Almeria! See more..
  24. 4.0 Casa Andalusi (484 reviews)
    - must visit
    Historic Sites
    Casa Andalusi image
A little after the entrance to the Jewish House of Spain is the Andalusian House. The entrance costs 10 euros per person The motifs are quite the same as for Spain, of course without mentioning the Jews. The house is very special with a patio and rooms that were very reminiscent of Morocco. The construction style reminiscent of the Cordoba Cathedral, the tiles on the walls, the garden, everything is designed in an authentic oriental style See more..

Palos de la Frontera is awesome! We loved the remakes of the ships Christopher Columbus used for his travels to explore America. Parts of the museum was only in Spanish, but it's still worth the visit. The entrance fee was only 3-4 euros per adult. See more..
