Buy a ticket not a tour
Turned up at gate. Didn’t even have to queue, though we were early at 9am. We paid 28 euros for two people on a General Ticket to see everything. The rest of our group of 12 people had all pre booked months ago paying 80 euros per couple and the only thing they had extra was an earpiece and mobile device to listen to. Think they were a bit peeved… We queued 10 mins for the palaces because they didn’t let us in until the exact time. No queues for anything else although I think getting there very early helped. As the time wore on, the place was getting crowded so I’m not surprised people were queuing. My husband HATES trooping round old buildings but we were there 3 hrs and he had to admit it was interesting. By the way, we saw no end of tour groups being taken round and everyone looked bored…

    A beautiful visit
I pre-booked my tickets through the official web site over a month in advanced. The Palacios Nazaries has to be a pre-booked time slot. I visited at 9:30am, which was perfect. I would recommend early morning then you are free to do the GENERALIFE/Alcazaba at your leisure without worrying about your ticket time and it gets very busy, you will have to queue regardless and have your passport/ID ready throughout the park. I was able to park at the first car park as I had got there so early, you pay by a machine near the car park on the way out. After the beautiful palace it naturally lead me into the gardens. I would compare this place to the Alcázar at Seville, they are very similar in style but both equally fabulous non the less. I then had to queue a little while to get into the Alcazaba - wonderful views from the top. I spent about 4 hours in all. Did around 10,000 steps so bring your trainers. Flowers were starting to really bloom and the smell of the orange blossom was to die for. I'd recommend you take some snacks and water although you can get some food and drink throughout the park. Enjoy it all and be patient, take it all in.
