A wonderful museum

We almost did not visit due to a previous review about no ENGLISH signage. We were surprised to be able to converse in English at the ticket booth (1.50 euros per person) receive an English language pamphlet and at every station in the museum read each display in English. The visit was informative and the ships authentic and being allowed to explore each one was a bonus. I would highly recommend this important piece of history to anyone in the area.

    Visit during COVID
The ships were very well done and displays were fantastic. Unfortunately due to COVID we couldn’t go below deck, which was what my husband really wanted to see. The Maria was being renovated so couldn’t go on this. They only charged us €1.50 (half price) because of this.

    Excellent for history buffs
Everyone's heard of Columbus and his three ships but it's something else to see full size replicas of each one of them. To be able to wander around on the ships is really special as you can get a real sense of how small they actually were. Imagine being stuck onboard for months at a time! Some of the figures and displays near the ships are a bit camp. but there is an interesting room with documents and small replicas of the boats where you can read up on their famous journey. Who knew a fellow sailor arrived back in Spain weeks before Columbus and tried to take all the glory! The museum is very much focused on Columbus and his ships. If you're looking for a balanced view on the impact Columbus' journey had on local indigineous peoples of the Caribbean and the wider historical impact you won't find that here. We were prepared to overlook that as what we were keen on was boarding the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria ships, and that did not disappoint!
