Castillo de Gibralfaro, Andalucia, Spain

4.5 (6.024 reviews) Thursday: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent Ranking #25 in Province of Malaga Historic Sites • Castles

A good yomp up but worth it.

A must to do if you are staying in Malaga. A good yomp up leads to spectacular views once inside. Just be careful on footwear as on the day we went it started to rain and the route down in trainers was a slippery nightmare! A €5:50 ticket combines the two sites which lasts for 48 hours, the castle only is €3. A must to do even if it’s just for the view, there is a road up if you need transport instead of walking.

The best places for city panoramic views anywhere in Malaga
This place is all about the city panoramic views. It’s only a mile from the city centre but if you chose to walk up passing 5he Albacaras on your left side beware it is steep in places. The top half of the route is fairly polished granite stones with fief steps so make sure you don’t wear flip flops. It’s onlyApprox 375 up from the main old town but feels more as it is steep in places. Some good panoramic views of the port and gardens on the way up. Inside there is a display building with Spanish military artefacts. But it’s all about 5he views from the many viewpoints. all of the displays inside the museum and around the walk are in Spanish only. Ps set off 0830 to get there as it opens to beat the crows and the stifling mid day heat

    Be prepared!
We visit this historic monument at least once per visit to the city and it is well worth going to. Common sense demands that it is on top of the highest hill so it is quite a walk. Make sure you were sensible footwear as the slopes up can be rough and slippy at times. It’s worth the effort though once you get to the castle. As well as this fortification there is a hotel and a snack bar up there which allows you to get refreshments and get your energy back! The views are absolutely stunning as well.
