    Mănăstirea Sinaia image
Extremely beautiful monastery, a must in Sinaia. I specially loved the small older chapel with the classic representation of hell to the right and heaven to the left, with beautiful colours and fun torture for the sinners :) There is a payable parking space right beside the monastery. In fact it's also kinda between Peles castle also, so its perfect to visit them "together" as there is a pleasant walk through the woods connecting them! See more..
  4. 4.5 Pelișor Castle (678 reviews)
    - Fans of Art Nouveau will love this place
    Thursday: 9:15 AM - 4:15 PM Castles
    Pelișor Castle image
Pelisor castle was built at the very end of the 19th Century as a private residence for the heirs to the throne of Carol I, Ferdinand and Marie and reflects many of the relevant design features of the time. As such, Art Nouveau interior design features heavily in the house and fans of this genre will find the house a delight. The one exception is a dazzling ‘Gold Room’ covered almost completely in 24 carat gold leaf. It is a complete contrast to Peles castle being much more understated (apart from the one exception above) but very refined and equally good. Although all the explanatory boards are in Romania, English written guides are handed out on entry. It is generally much less crowded than Peles. See more..

    Cantacuzino Castle image
Cantacuzino Castle was the summer residence of Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, nicknamed "The Nabob" due to his impressive wealth. The building, built in 1911, bears a great architectural, historical, documentary and artistic value and spreads over a vast area of about 6 hectares. The architecture of the castle is made in neo-Romanian style, with neo-Brancovian elements. The castle park is similar to European royal parks, being laid out with paved alleys, artesian fountains, a grotto, trees, flower gardens and sculptures. It also offers the most beautiful panoramic view in the entire area! Due to its special charm, the castle has hosted, over time, several international productions (films, series, TV commercials, videos etc.). Cazinoul Sinaia image
We visited the casino after many years within a guided tour and it was a very good decision. This is a very beautiful place built at the beginning of 19th century as per the plans of the Romanian architect Antonescu. The theatre is was by far my favorite but the Mirrors Room and the Baccarat Room are equally beautiful. The entrance is majestic as well. 4 art galleries are at the ground floor and they deservd all the attention of visitors, particularly the one displaying the very nice collection donated by the painter Augustin Costinescu and his wife. A secret underground passage of 70 m connects the Casino with the Hotel Palace (it was used once by the players) and we were told that the municipality is doing its best to open it to the public. - Fun & educational

    Princely Court image
What a fun afternoon! Visiting the ruins was truly a wonderful day. It's inexpensive to get into the park and you get to see the church, the ruins, the library and all the grounds. The court was cool and eerie, with remnants of history sprinkled everywhere, including a few torture devices. Recently there have been some upgrades that include an historical look at how the damage was sustained, heads of state who visited, unearthing news parts and it was all educational and exciting. Took so many photos and learned a lot. Great for the whole family or a couple. See more..

The monument stands on the edge of Bucegi Plateau, right above the abyss. Be carefull if you suffer from vertigo! If you're lucky to reach the summit on a clear day, the panoramic views over Prahova Valley, located about 1400 meter under your feet, will take your breath. The monument itself, dedicated to the soldiers that lost their lives during the World War I, is a 40 meters metallic cross, which was under some maintenance work during our visit. See more..

If you like hiking, walking through the woods and waterfalls, you should see this one too. If you are in good phisical shape you can choose the Bușteni (Telecabinei street) - Waterfall route, a longer, steeper trail. Otherwise it is much easier, less demanding, and recommended to reach the Howling Waterfall using the Poiana Țapului - Waterfall trail. See more..
  22. 4.5 Ialomicioara Monastery and Cave (64 reviews)
    - Worth a visit

    Ialomicioara Monastery and Cave image
Definitely worth a visit. We drove from Sinaia instead of getting the cable car after reading how long people have to wait for the cable car. The road up is very scenic which is definitely worth stopping at points but the drive is not for anyone who isn't confident with driving. September is a relatively quiet time so the drive wasn't so bad. You park a bit away from the monastery and you walk up to it. The monastery apparently was burnt down a few times and it was rebuilt in approx 2006 I think. The cave was amazing. I think they should charge more than 10lei for entrance but hey... Take up on the offer for helmets if you are tall. You will need it. See more..
  23. 4.0 Comana Nature Park (62 reviews)
    - Nice park
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Comana Nature Park image
Comana Natural Park is a nice park about a 45 minute drive from Bucharest. It has a zip line you can ride, horses, a couple restaurants, a "love" bridge where you attach a padlock, make a wish and throw away the key into the lake, as well as plenty of space for picnic's and resting. My friend who lives nearby told me that in the summer time they sometimes have concerts and plenty of activities for the kids, which makes it a perfect family destination. During my recent visit it was cold and not so crowded. I enjoyed walking around the park and imagined how crowded it must be in the warm weather. I would definitely like to revisit this park during the summer. Romania has a lot of parks and I'd definitely recommend this one. See more..
  24. 4.0 George Enescu Memorial House (62 reviews)
    - A piece of the famous composer personality
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites
    George Enescu Memorial House image
We visited this place early morning and this is because the museum closes at 4 pm with the last entry at 3:30 pm (we found this very unhappy all the more we were going to ski and, of course, there was no time to come earlier/then, the visit takes 15 minutes or so and closing it 30 minutes before official closing is just like they cannot wait to go home in spite of the visitors interest). Anyhow, the museum well worth a visit as it was the summer residence of the Romanian famous composer Georges Enescu until its final departure from Romania in 1946 when the communists seized the power after WWII. It is the place were Queen Mary of Romania was attending the small group private concerts of Enescu. The sculpture in the courtyard was made by Ion Irimescu. The lack of acces to the working rooms of Enescu in the attick and the location of his original piano in room not allowed for visitors are again very strange decisions none can understand. See more..

    Museum of Communism image
As traveler you are interested of many things. Recent Europe's history started to be intriguing for many of us. So, early in the morning I left Bucharest for Targoviste and I found pretty easy this place. Do not expect to find signs to lead you towards it. Shortly after you pass Targoviste sign, continue ahead until you'll find a roundabout (left hand is Rompetrol gas station) - turn left and continue till you'll find a new roundabout and turn right (you have passed over a bridge) and ahead until you are again in a roundabout (this time you've passed the bridge over railroads) turn right and that's "B-dul Carol I" where you'll find (next to Targoviste Train Station and opposing a high school) the former school of cavalry founded in 1907, by the major Dragotescu. It's slogan "The cavalry officer has to be horse rider and cavalier". How noble The late clouds of the Communism in Romania made possible that the last Dictator from the former communism block to end his life in this former military facility. You'll pass near Dan II Basarab (a ruler of Wallachia) and you are invited inside for the visit. In a good shape preserved the walls remind us about the former military school being invited to see old pictures of this building. To the right is the office of the commander of the former military school - the room where the couple Ceausescu had received medical assistance, in front as you get in in the room where the trial was kept and finally to the right along the hallway the third room where the couple slept last days of their lives. Getting outside you reach to the point where the communist president together with his wife were executed.. The place is ... Well, I let you dear traveler to find out other details of this place and maybe you'll understand a piece of our Recent History. Admission fee - 7 lei/pers, Photo fee - 15 lei/camera See more..
  31. 4.5 Cernica Monastery (24 reviews)
    - Lovely monastery but unfriendly monks
    Religious Sites
    Cernica Monastery image
The place is well worth a visit, not far from the city center of Bucharest by taxi or bus. It is extremely clean, and the residence of the monks is luxurious. It seems that most of them are more concern by donations and gastronomy (try to peep in their wall painted canteen, it is splendid) than by religion. There is a beautiful lake next to the monastery. Don't miss that place when you visit Bucharest! See more..

  34. 4.0 Brücke der Freundschaft (18 reviews)
    - A very nice experience, a walk along the danube bridge
    Spent < 1 hour Bridges
    Brücke der Freundschaft image
Along with my brother, I tackled the Giurgiu Nord hiking trail (you will be searched for your identity documents on the train before you can get off) to the center of Rousse. The march covers a distance of approx. 15 km, but it is relatively easy to do. It is about 7km to the bridge itself, there you should be prepared to be asked both on the Romanian and the Bulgarian side for the reason for the passage and for valid ID documents. Passing on foot costs nothing, you have to pay a toll fee by car. On the bridge, there is a very narrow hiking trail, on which partly pipes are also laid. But this hiking trail is definitely worth it for the beautiful view of the Danube. Then it proceeds from the industrial area in Rousse, along the Mladenzhki Park, to the city center. See more..

The total length of the main slope is just 2.7 km, so it's going to be boring day at ski, unless you're a beginner. The ski-lift is quite well updated, slightly above the average cable-ways that you can find in Romania's ski resorts. There are a few coffee shops, fast-food joints and one restaurant next to the bottom ski-lift station. Parking lot is nearby. Best thing about Kalinderu ski resort is the stunning view over Bucegi Mountain and Caraiman peak. All in all, a decent ski-resort for kids and beginners. See more..

  48. 4.5 Cheile Sohodolului (5 reviews)

    Geologic Formations
    Cheile Sohodolului image
The Sohodol Canyon (Cheile Sohodolului) is something like 20 kilometers from Targu Jiu city and it is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Gorj county. Great landscape, some nice little caves and a lot of photo oportunities. Also in a small cave it is arranged an orthodox altar. You can visit this place by climbing a few stairs. Another attraction of the Canyon is the "stone ring", a round hole in the mountain rock. It is a place of legend and favored by the locals to take engagement or wedding pictures. If you decide to climb the cliffs beware where you put your foot or hand because you can get into a horn viper, the most venomous snakes in Romania. The Sohodol Canyon is also appreciated by a lot of Romanian movie lovers. Here were filmed some well-known scenes from the Romanian adventure movie "The Yellow Rose" (Trandafirul Galben), from 1982.
