Curtea de Arges Cathedral, Southern Romania, Romania

4.5 (6 reviews) Spent Ranking #6 in Arges County Churches & Cathedrals

Amazing place

The Royal Archbishopric Cathedral from Argeș is the place chosen by the kings of Romania to rest here on the country's land. The new Royal necropolis is located in the courtyard of this complex which includes the Curtea de Arges monastery built between 1515-'17 by Neagoe Basarab, the Episcopal palace and the Royal Cathedral for the entire necropolis of the members of the Royal House of Romania. The two royal couples Carol I with Queen Elisabeta and King Ferdinand with Queen Maria, the founder Neagoe Basarab, Radu de la Afumați and a few others no longer having space to receive new locations have their tombs into the cathedral.

    Pretty church
We actually wanted ti visit St Nicholas church but ended here instead, but it was also very enjoyable: the legend behind the church, the tombs inside and the pretty exterior with twisted towers make it a perfect stop. We couldn't enjoy the interior that well because there was a wedding vut as usual it was very beautiful also.

    Beautiful
This is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. It is at the same time a well preserved piece of art and a place filled with history due to its role of keeping the former Romanian kings and queens.
