  3. 2.0 Orasul De Floci (1 review)
    - Could so interesting ... but there is no interest - or it seems so.
    Spent 1-2 hours Ancient Ruins
    Orasul De Floci image
"Orasul de Floci" - the birth place of king Michael "the Brave" - (Mihai Viteazul, in Romanian) - situate in the Ialomita county right next to the DN 2A road close by to the Giurgeni - Vadu Oii bridge over the Danube. (tried several times to adjust the map location - but it is still wrongly placing the site in the middle of Transylvania ... I gave up - just look for the address). So, an archeological dig site, that is open for visitor for a small fee ... that in the case somebody is actually there during the opening hours (when I was there this summer it wasn't - twice I passed at a distance of 4 days - twice no chance to enter , and nobody picking up the phone - since they got a phone number on display). So, this city - because the dig is focused around a city from the Middle Ages, is the place where in 1558 Michael - the king of , if for a very brief year, united Romania between 1600-1601 - was born ... the city was an important economical center from the XV to the XVII century ... but due to the conflicts of the period it was constantly destroyed and rebuilt until slowly but surely has been fallen into oblivion .. In the 1970's archeological excavations began but were stopped in 1990 and place was and is a genuine ruin - nowadays the history museum of Ialomita county is the custodian - their web site is advertising it - but even that I was there during opening times - nobody was on the premises or answered a phone call - so I was not able to visit the place - good thing is I did not made any detour - just stopped at the parking on the side of the road. Pity , king Michael is probably the most known and most revered kings of Wallachia and medieval "Romania", he's deeds were portrait in a movie that ranks very high on the IMDB list ... still over and over and .... over again , "we" forget the past, forsake our historical historical site and continue to ... .... Indeed ... when you are in the area try to visit this place - it might be interesting. See more..
