Must stop on your way to of from the Transfagarasan Highway

This is an ancient, but perfectly maintained monastery church, perhaps the most important of Romania. The garden is magnificent, and the intricately carved bizantine exterior. It's the resting place of nmany Walachia voivodes. Beautiful, lively frescoes and icons.

    Superb
Curtea de Argeș Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox monastery , located in the city of Curtea de Argeș , built between 1515-1517 by Neagoe Basarab . The ensemble includes the episcopal cathedral, one of the most famous architectural monuments in Wallachia . During the reign of Carol I , the cathedral was transformed into a necropolis for the Romanian royal family. Apart from the royal tombs, at the Curtea de Argeș Monastery there are also the relics of Saint Filofteia.

    Gorgeous
Absolutely gorgeous monastery area, the church obviously being the main attraction. It's worth the trip for sure. Photography is allowed with a small fee. There is also a "gift shop" inside a bigger, more plain looking church.
