  5. 4.5 Kamenjak National Park (1.673 reviews)
    - Beautiful bays on a day trip from Pula
    National Parks
    Kamenjak National Park image
I would definitely recommend Kamenjak as a day trip from Pula, the bus only took around 30 minutes and was quite reliable, then it's a walk from the bus stop and free entry. Getting round the park on foot is quite long, a car would be much easier! I wanted to see as much as possible so arrived around 8am and barely saw anyone on the first few beaches. By around 10am it was getting a lot busier. I walked around the majority of the park, leaving around 4pm but this was a huge amount of walking in one day. The park itself is very beautiful, the dust makes it look very ethereal and I didn't have an issue with cars driving fast like others mentioned. I did visit the safari bar which is cash only, and nice to get a fresh lemonade and take in the views. The bays/beaches I would recommend in particular are Radovica and Plovanije. All of that side is particularly stunning in my opinion! See more..

  7. 4.5 Church of St. Euphemia (1.527 reviews)
    - Beautiful climb at night and in the morning.
    Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
    Church of St. Euphemia image
We made our 2nd visit before gaining entry to this largest baroque church in Istria, built in 1736. Both last evening and this morning we walked the easiest and prettiest polished cobblestone street from the main square, a 300 m climb from the 1680 Venetian Balbis Arch, passing restaurants and small art and pottery shops. This clear Friday morning, we came at 10 AM but it was nearly 10:30 AM before a man arrived on a scooter to open the side and main entry. While other early arrivals went to climb the 197’ tower (20 hrk), our goal was to see the painted chapel with the 6th C Roman sarcophagus containing the relics of St. Euphemia. After seeing the upper wall’s fine sea views, we descended the easy sloping walkway that wound around to the southern port, 900m back to the main square. See more..
  8. 4.5 Parish Of The Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral (1.520 reviews)
    - A designated World Heritage Site
    Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
Parish Of The Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral image
Don't be fooled by the unassuming entrance to the Basilica, entrance is reasonable and worth every penny in my book for a glimpse of some of the treasures inside & out. Stand outs are the mosaics (Christ with the 12 apostles), 16th century bell tower & colonnaded atrium. Given the history and its tumultuous past dicing with fires & earthquakes its in remarkably good shape. See more..

Hilltop Walled Ancient City of Motovun image
We drove our rental car up here from Porec, parking at the top where the shuttle bus unloads and near the parking ticket machine. The upper level entry road has plenty of space during the off season, especially in the morning. I bought a 1 hour ticket with my card for 10 kn and we walked 350 m up the cobblestone lane passing gift and truffle shops to the Town Gate. Then 60 m more passing restaurant diners enter the Town Wall Gate which empties into the main square with a perfect view of the 17th C St. Stephen. It was closed so we walked along the northern wall for its excellent viewpoints to vineyards, farm fields and forests. Our favorite view was from the Porec road 3 km south called “View Motovun” on Google maps and next to a roadway cafe. Nice visit on a clear day. See more..

    - Bohemian charm
Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Groznjan Hilltop village of artists, Istria, Croatia image
Often referred to as the 'artists village' there are more boutique/craft shops and art galleries than you can shake a stick at here. Admittedly not all to our taste but some hidden gems all the same. Look out for the small jewellery/leather shop (blue door with butterfly motif) and a unique clothing store where you'll find the owner somewhere around if you loiter long enough in the shop! The town has a clever one way traffic and parking system so its a breeze to find a spot, pay and walk into the old town. See more..

  23. 4.0 Round Tower (307 reviews)
    - A nice surprise

    Round Tower image
After walking around Poreč old town, finding this place after walking down a narrow street was a nice surprise. We almost walked past it then noticed it was a bar. Being a little thirsty after our walk we managed the steep stairs to the inside bar. So quaint and cosy and I imagine quite crowded on an evening. We then went up a further set of steep narrow steps to the roof for views over the sea and old Poreč. Service was good but the beer was better (after a hot walk). For an unusual place to have a drink this is as good as any. We only stopped off for 1 but I imagine this place would be good for an evening watching the sun go down. But don't drink too much as the stairs down are as steep as they are coming up hahaha See more..
  24. 4.0 Floor mosaic The Punishment of Dirce (301 reviews)
    - Just one of Many Underneath the Modern City
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Floor mosaic The Punishment of Dirce image
There is an assumption that the modern city of Pula was built over the ancient Roman city formerly known as Pietas Julia; who knows what lies underneath the modern town. This mosaic that lies about six to eight feet down is all that remains of a Roman room from about two thousand years ago. The state of preservation is excellent. The mosaic depicts a geometric grid containing a series of rosettes and a single pictorial reserve featuring the Punishment of Dirce. The mosaic is sort of difficult to find. You follow Sergievaca Street from the Arch of the Sergii about half way down to the Temple of Augustus. On the left side of the street is a long and narrow women's clothing shop. You enter and pass through to the back where you will find a small terrace overlooking the mosaic. The mosaic is covered with a roof to protect it from the elements. Enjoy. See more..
  25. 4.5 Main Street (294 reviews)
    - Beautiful stroll
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    Main Street image
We went walking from our hotel Lone towards the old city of Rovijn en it was just a little too hot to walk with the kids, around 35 degrees, but besides that the city is just beautiful and it's full of cozy corners with amazing structures of the old city which for me looks like venetia very much and by the harvor it's just Saint Tropez. It's well worth the visit to the city. We also talked towards the highest point which is where the church of Santa Eugenia is and went all the way up to the tower of the chapel en the view is stunning. It's a must see case there you can see the whole city of Rovijn en for me.that was the best photo location of whole Rovijn . See more..
  26. 4.0 Decumanus Street (274 reviews)
    - Beautiful historical street
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Decumanus Street image
During the walk thru Poreč you can not bypass the main street Decumanus. Like the former Roman colony Poreč retained the original Roman street layout. Among the many streets, the most important street is Decumanus. Decumanus Street is an impressive street, it has something for everyone. History, archaeology, architecture and some interesting bar. It was once glittering with many important palaces, but now it is unfortunately occupied by foreign sellers with bad Chinese products. Too bad. But the street still retained the original glow and people are happy to walk down this street. See more..

You always enter this forum during the day and the evening as its the entrance to pretty much everything in Pula, if you want to go Harbour you can enter the Forum. If you want to visit shops and places of food and drinks you can enter the Forum. One really nice thing is that they do shows during the evenings, so one of the nights we managed to get a table for food in the centre and they were playing live music, so a massive crowd joined to watch it was a really nice touch to add as they lit up Augustus Temple. Overall its a nice place to visit, and you will end up visiting this place. Don't expect massive miracles but is lovely to keep walking through each day. See more..

  37. 4.0 Levan (187 reviews)
    - Nice getaway with sand beaches!
    Islands
    Levan image
It was nice to switch things up and visit Levan for a day. A sand beach, which is hard to come by. Price of renting chairs and umbrellas is in-line with other beaches we visited in Istria. Nice local grill as well with average prices. A nice time overall! Only downsides: Beach is kind of shallow for most of it, though you can still find places deep enough. And no one accepts credit card on the island. There are a few restaurants/cocktail bars. I think people would spend more if they could not worry about bringing enough cash with them to the island. There is no ATM anywhere near where you have to take the taxi boat, and of course none on the island either. So bring cash! See more..

    Katarina Island image
If you take a boat trip, take it to Katarina island. We did this economical trip 3 times during our 3 days in Rovinj. It costs substantially less than the glass bottom boat excursion and is a superior value. There are ruins on the island, a great small museum, an observatory tower, a hotel, and an outdoor restaurant. We spent about an hour on each visit, and enjoyed the boat trip and the island so much that we did the trip 3 times. there is a walking trail thru the greenery, and many types of shrubs and plants. There are spectacular views of Rovinj. See more..
  43. 4.5 Dvigrad (134 reviews)
    - Authentic Hilltop Town and Fortress
    Ancient Ruins
    Dvigrad image
The ruins of Dvigrad were one of the best places I visited in Croatia. Dvigrad (Two Cities) is a sprawling medieval town last inhabited about two hundred years ago. My wife and I enjoyed climbing on the fortress wall, as well as exploring the other buildings. Some structures have been left for the jungle to reclaim, while others are in relatively good condition. Plan on an at least an hour to explore. Parking is easy and free. A small food vendor at the site was selling milkshakes (pass on those), beer, and water. Entry to the ruins was free, and there were only about 10 other people there when we visited on an afternoon in July. Great for families (and kids over 6 yrs old) who like history or like to imagine themselves as medieval knights. See more..

    Girandella Beach image
Pebble beach with amazingly clear water. One part is for families with gradual entry into the sea, sunbeds and umbrellas on one place, for adults is the beach divided into different small places with a few of sunbeds and sun umrellas, it is not overcrowded. I recommend boots to water, there is no pier from which u can jump directly to the deep. It is the beach at the hotel Girandella Valamar Collection Resort, review of this hotel, with a lot of photos watch on my page hamiczech.tips, link in my Profile. hamiczech - insta follow for more tips See more..
  49. 4.0 Lim Channel (115 reviews)
    - Spectacular untouched nature
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
    Lim Channel image
Extremely beautiful interesting place of Istrian peninsula. Lim Fjord is a wonderful place for excursions to enthusiasts of intact nature. Water in the Gulf is clean and rich in fresh water sources, and therefore suitable for the development of plant and animal life. It is also known as a fish farm and breeding of shellfish (oysters, mussels, horns, brancines ...). All these delicacies can be tried in two restaurants on the shore of the bay. For the "free climbing" fans on the north side, there is a suitable rock, whereby every day the fans of this extreme sport are climbing every day. Nearby is also a cave that is open for visit. I recommend to visit. See more..
