Great Pula view

In the 17th century in Pula, the famous French architect Antoine de Ville designed a new Venetian project - the Kaštel Fortress. Today there is the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria. In front of the fortress you will be interested in a number of old cannons. The fortress offers a magnificent view of the city of Pula, including the Colosseum and the port. The outdoor areas are freely accessible, if you want to go inside, there is an entrance fee. In 2021 adults 20 kunas, children 10 kunas. 5 * views of the harbor port, shipbuilding and city.
We walked a 3 km circuit from our apartment located near the Arena to see the Temple of Augustus in the Forum Square and visit this 1633 castle. While the access, using stairways and inclining streets, is stressful the panoramas from each of the fortress star points make it worthwhile. After paying 30 kn for 2 seniors, we had free access to walk around the well preserved structure with numerous canons, machine guns and even a boat displayed around the grounds. Our concentration was on the huge harbor with shipbuilding in progress, port cranes that are lit up at night and jack up oil rigs. The museum focused on an 1862 Naval hospital pharmacy, 20th C Croatian history, an architecture display and a photo exhibit.

    View from the top
We decided to visit as we had a couple of hours before going to the airport. We entered via the tunnels on the lower level, the tunnels are very long with pictures and information on the tram in the city and why the tunnels were formed. The best part of the tunnels is the amazing coolness which is a welcome break from the heat outside. The next level is short and there is information on the war effort/prison. The top level gives access to the city view, amphitheater and harbour. The top can be accessed for free if you wish to walk up to the top. Otherwise for the fee of entering the museum (40 kunas) there is a lift.
