Temple Of Augustus, Istria, Croatia
4.0 (1.254 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in Pula Religious Sites
A well preserved Roman Temple that has watching over Pula for 2,000 years.
An imposing Forum that benignly looks down on the locals & travelers as it has done for 2 millennia, yes built between 2 BC & 14 AD. Dedicated to the first Roman Emperor, Augustus, the Temple has a porch fronted by 6 Corinthian columns & stands 14 metres high. I also learnt that Pula was known as POLA back in these Rman times.

Roman temple in the original Forum in Pula
It's incredible to think that this building has been around for over 2 centuries even though it was apparently almost completely destroyed by an allied bomb during WW2 and was subsequently reconstructed. Over the years it has also served as a church during the Byzantine era and, later, as a granary. Now it is a small museum (Lapidareum) displaying Roman sculpture. It stands out quite prominently in the Forum, the central square of ancient and medieval Pula which is located in the western part of the town.

Beautiful☺️
A beautiful part of the old town. Seeing some sights like this one is invaluable. The weather was great so the walk through Pula ended with coffee at a beautiful bar called Cvejner Recommend?
