4.5Church of St. Euphemia(1.527 reviews) - Beautiful climb at night and in the morning. Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
We made our 2nd visit before gaining entry to this largest baroque church in Istria, built in 1736. Both last evening and this morning we walked the easiest and prettiest polished cobblestone street from the main square, a 300 m climb from the 1680 Venetian Balbis Arch, passing restaurants and small art and pottery shops. This clear Friday morning, we came at 10 AM but it was nearly 10:30 AM before a man arrived on a scooter to open the side and main entry. While other early arrivals went to climb the 197’ tower (20 hrk), our goal was to see the painted chapel with the 6th C Roman sarcophagus containing the relics of St. Euphemia. After seeing the upper wall’s fine sea views, we descended the easy sloping walkway that wound around to the southern port, 900m back to the main square.See more..
Don't be fooled by the unassuming entrance to the Basilica, entrance is reasonable and worth every penny in my book for a glimpse of some of the treasures inside & out. Stand outs are the mosaics (Christ with the 12 apostles), 16th century bell tower & colonnaded atrium. Given the history and its tumultuous past dicing with fires & earthquakes its in remarkably good shape.See more..
3.5Pula Cathedral(155 reviews) - Simple Romanesque church, but not quite a cathedral in its stature. Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
Somewhat simple & unadorned & whilst well maintained is overshadowed by the abundance of older historic - & more prominent - buildings. Our visit was little more than a walk-by & grab a photo. My wish was to have been able to spend more time in Pula ... so much to see & learn.See more..

I came alone to visit this church from the outside as well as inside. An impressive building in good condition. Inside quite standard and plain - just the picture on the top is very colorful and bright (see pictures). Is this a helpful review? 3.5St. Blaise's Church(71 reviews) - Unusual and interesting church visit Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
If you are in the area of Istria, it’s worth paying a visit to the Church of St Blaise at Vodnjan to see the remains of the saints’ bodies which are preserved without having been embalmed. The church member who greeted our small group was very welcoming, a passionate story teller, and quite a character. After a brief tour of the church, he took us behind the altar to the crypt where the bodies lie in glass cases in a darkened room. He proceeded to tell us their stories, in quite a dramatic fashion, including how the bodies had been scientifically examined and that their preservation could not be accounted for. We then listened to a recording after which we were invited to look more closely at the bodies. There is also a museum containing other holy relics but we did not go in there. Without visiting the museum we spent 20-30 minutes in the church and crypt and it costs between 2-10 euros per adult depending on what you want to see.See more..
This church is amazing. The only complaint we have is that we couldn't get inside to see the interior. Still, it was worth our time to stop by and snap a few pics.See more..
A short walk from the main harbour, is St Martin’s Church. It’s a stunning little church and luckily it was open when we went on Monday morning. For 15kuna per adult and 10kuna for children, you can go to the top of the bell tower for some awesome views of Vsar. Well worth a nice walk out to.See more..
This old church is by the harbour. Many reviews are confusing it with St Martin, which is up the hill and has great 360 degree views from its bell tower. The Basilica is seldom open except for special events. It's easy to miss as it's not even labelled. Worth looking out for as you stroll past the boats, but only warrants a few minutes of your time.See more..
This hexagonal structure dating back to Roman times (1st or 2nd century I believe) is easily seen right beside the main bus terminal and signals the start of the road into the old town. Check out the weathered stone window on the left side when your facing the door! Inside a kind, local Croatia woman had made it her mission to preserve this historical site by maintaining a small art studio inside and happily provides visitors with a history of the structure. Unique acoustics as well as a glimpse of the past this free site is great for a quick visit! See more..
What a find! Amazing Frescoes from 1474, beautifully preserved. Access needs to be given and the notice board opposite the church gives the phone number, or alternatively knock on the door of number 38 & the lovely lady will take you there. Chapel is small but beautiful. Frescoes reckoned to be the best in Croatia. Views from the village of Beram (where you arrange the visit) also worth seeing. Menu at the little restaurant also looked good.See more..
This lovely church dates back to the 1300's it is located in old town Labin, within a beautiful square surround by very in keeping houses the Schampicchio family palace is next to it, the interior is quite ornate definitely worth a visit during a walk through the cobbled streets of the old town, for lunch we recommend a visit to Rumore, for the bestest pizza, (see review).See more..
Before you go, get on the website, and get the number for the caretaker, Sonja, to arrange to meet, she lives at number 38, which is next to the main church. Get the hotel to ring, but her English is just good enough I think to arrange a time. We did better in French. She will go with you in the car and let you in and do some explanation. There is a small charge 20kn each, 10kn for students. The chapel is great, and again I recommend reading a little about the frescoes before you go. The dance of death, represents a picture that we all will die, kings, rich merchants etc. The other pictures are those ffom the bible, some with perspective, and for me the best is Judas kissing Jesus to betray him.See more..

4.5St. Mary’s Basilica(5 reviews) - Family vacation Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Ancient Ruins • Churches & Cathedrals
The three-nave church of square ground plan whose lateral walls have been preserved almost to their original height. The size of the church (11x 24 m) indicates a large population of the nearby castrum erecting this edifice in the 5th/6th century. The altar area is two steps higher and is divided from the church nave by a partly preserved triumphal arch. The altar basis is preserved in situ. The atrium of the basilica holds a small collection of stone monuments, exhibiting, among other, church findings, transennae and stone window grids. In the open front part of the basilica and around it was an Early Christian cemetery 300 m long, stretching as far as the southeastern corner of the castrum.See more..

4.5Zvonik Sv. Justa(5 reviews) - Do you like height and nice views? Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers • Churches & Cathedrals
The bell tower of St. Just is 35 m high and dates from 1623. We were lucky to be completely alone in it, because I can't imagine anyone on those steep stairs and narrow corridors. From that height we had respect. At the very top, you can enjoy huge bells, which are forbidden to ring. The entrance fee was symbolic in 2021, 10 Kun. The frescoes inside the Chiesa di San Rocco were breathtaking. They are some of the rarest frescoes from the 15th century in this region. I biked there on a beautiful day to Draguccio and luckily I'll be able to come back again soon as I'm staying not far away. Definitely worth a visit and the view from Draguccio over the central Istrian mountains are beautiful. See more..
See more..
As of 1557, the Venetian prelate exercised authority over the entire Orthodox congregation in the territory of the Venetian Republic, which also includes the congregation in Istria. Orthodox Montenegrins, who had migrated to the peninsular in September 1657, established the one in Peroj in 1784. Since the Orthodox archdiocese of Venice is united in organisation with the Holy See, the administrative parish functioning model is in essence similar to the catholic one. This also applies to registers, the matriculation of which started in 1784, the same year in which the parish of St. Spiridon in Peroj began its formal operation.See more..

4.0St Germans' Church(1 review) - Compleet kerkje met rustig interieur en een stuk fraai mozaïek bij het altaar Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
The St. German’s Church is the largest sacral building of a medieval settlement erected along the main Brijuni port. The single-nave church with polygonal apse has distinct Gothic features: the portal with pointed arch is decorated with Gothic single braid rope and teeth. The arches of the window are also pointed, as well as the openings of the buttress where the year of construction, 1481, was engraved. A statue of a saint is located on top of the tympanum.See more..

4.0Chiesa del Santo Spirito(1 review) - Probably the most exquisite hidden treasure of Bale Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
Bale/Valle is kind of famous for its large number of small, medieval churches (most of them are scattered outside of the populated area of the town). The small chapel consecrated in the honor of the Holy Spirit is the richest in interior decoration. It was built in the late Gothic period, in the XV. century. The simple, single nave chapel`s interior walls are covered with well preserved, high quality mural paintings, mostly scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. The monument is but a few steps from the town`s bus station, but is very quiet and intimate place. And is open, contrary to many other similar churches all over the Istrian Peninsula.See more..
