Basilica of St. Mary of the Sea, Istria, Croatia

4.0 (29 reviews) Spent Ranking #6 in Vrsar Churches & Cathedrals

It's by the harbour

This old church is by the harbour. Many reviews are confusing it with St Martin, which is up the hill and has great 360 degree views from its bell tower. The Basilica is seldom open except for special events. It's easy to miss as it's not even labelled. Worth looking out for as you stroll past the boats, but only warrants a few minutes of your time.

    Great views.
Worth the climb to the top of the hill through the winding streets of the old town of Vrsar to see this church and ascend the bell tower from which the views of the locale are stunning.

Nice Place to Visit in this Small Istrian Town
Vrsar is a lovely small Istrian village to visit. It is right on the coast of the Adriatic. North of Rovinj on the other side of Croatia's fjord. There are about 3000 people in Vrsar. The church is up a short but moderately steep walk. Total elevation about 170 feet. The views during the walk, and from the area around the church, are quite lovely. The church is small as you would expect. Romanesque dating to the 8th C. The current facade dates to the 17th Century. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.
