Often referred to as the 'artists village' there are more boutique/craft shops and art galleries than you can shake a stick at here. Admittedly not all to our taste but some hidden gems all the same. Look out for the small jewellery/leather shop (blue door with butterfly motif) and a unique clothing store where you'll find the owner somewhere around if you loiter long enough in the shop! The town has a clever one way traffic and parking system so its a breeze to find a spot, pay and walk into the old town.See more..
4.0Round Tower(307 reviews) - A nice surprise Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
After walking around Poreč old town, finding this place after walking down a narrow street was a nice surprise. We almost walked past it then noticed it was a bar. Being a little thirsty after our walk we managed the steep stairs to the inside bar. So quaint and cosy and I imagine quite crowded on an evening. We then went up a further set of steep narrow steps to the roof for views over the sea and old Poreč. Service was good but the beer was better (after a hot walk). For an unusual place to have a drink this is as good as any. We only stopped off for 1 but I imagine this place would be good for an evening watching the sun go down. But don't drink too much as the stairs down are as steep as they are coming up hahahaSee more..
There is an assumption that the modern city of Pula was built over the ancient Roman city formerly known as Pietas Julia; who knows what lies underneath the modern town. This mosaic that lies about six to eight feet down is all that remains of a Roman room from about two thousand years ago. The state of preservation is excellent. The mosaic depicts a geometric grid containing a series of rosettes and a single pictorial reserve featuring the Punishment of Dirce. The mosaic is sort of difficult to find. You follow Sergievaca Street from the Arch of the Sergii about half way down to the Temple of Augustus. On the left side of the street is a long and narrow women's clothing shop. You enter and pass through to the back where you will find a small terrace overlooking the mosaic. The mosaic is covered with a roof to protect it from the elements. Enjoy.See more..
4.5Main Street(294 reviews) - Beautiful stroll Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
We went walking from our hotel Lone towards the old city of Rovijn en it was just a little too hot to walk with the kids, around 35 degrees, but besides that the city is just beautiful and it's full of cozy corners with amazing structures of the old city which for me looks like venetia very much and by the harvor it's just Saint Tropez. It's well worth the visit to the city. We also talked towards the highest point which is where the church of Santa Eugenia is and went all the way up to the tower of the chapel en the view is stunning. It's a must see case there you can see the whole city of Rovijn en for me.that was the best photo location of whole Rovijn . See more..
4.0Decumanus Street(274 reviews) - Beautiful historical street Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
During the walk thru Poreč you can not bypass the main street Decumanus. Like the former Roman colony Poreč retained the original Roman street layout. Among the many streets, the most important street is Decumanus. Decumanus Street is an impressive street, it has something for everyone. History, archaeology, architecture and some interesting bar. It was once glittering with many important palaces, but now it is unfortunately occupied by foreign sellers with bad Chinese products. Too bad. But the street still retained the original glow and people are happy to walk down this street.See more..
4.5Spiaggia Isola rossa, Rovigno(262 reviews) - One day escape Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.5Valle dIstria/Bale(216 reviews) - Worth a short visit if in the area Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Bale feels like its been preserved in a moment in time in the past and not much has changed since. It has a lovely laid back charm and is dotted with little jewels of shops here and there selling local produce and crafts. I highly recommend the Cafe bar Castelli - its is a lovely place to sit back and relax with a home made lemonade.See more..
4.0Vielle ville de Labin(210 reviews) - Stari Grad - beautiful small historic town Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Stari Grad in historic part of Labin, and certainly worth visiting. With a lunch, it takes cca 2 hours to see all. It will captivate you with its winding streets, small squares, high bell tower and medieval architecture. The historic core has undergone extensive restoration. Facades of houses and palaces, alleys, squares, stairs, churches, everything has a new coat. In the ancient houses you will find stylish cafes and shops with local products. Visit the bell tower os St. Just from 17th century. The whole Labin review read on my blog hamiczech.tips (active link on my Profile). 4.0The Town Hall (City Palace)(210 reviews) - Its a lovely view and scenery Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Its a lovely place to visit during the day or the evening. You always enter this forum during the day and the evening as its the entrance to pretty much everything in Pula, if you want to go Harbour you can enter the Forum. If you want to visit shops and places of food and drinks you can enter the Forum. One really nice thing is that they do shows during the evenings, so one of the nights we managed to get a table for food in the centre and they were playing live music, so a massive crowd joined to watch it was a really nice touch to add as they lit up Augustus Temple. Overall its a nice place to visit, and you will end up visiting this place. Don't expect massive miracles but is lovely to keep walking through each day. See more..
3.5The Twin Gates of Pula(195 reviews) - Nice ancient gate in Pula Points of Interest & Landmarks
Porta Gemina is a double Roman city gate. It was built at the end of the 2nd century. It was one of the ten city gates of Pula, which stood on the north side of the capital. U can see here only the gate, nothing more, so take a picture and continue to Fortress Kastel. We visited as a family with teenagers. The lower tunnels were not quite as interesting as the Fort above. The construction of the lower tunnels was interesting but the displays are mainly given over to the history of the tram system which didn't hold our attention for long. The mezzanine level is very short but leads to the Fort above which had beautiful views over the city and the waterfront. It was good value and worth spending some time under and above the city. 3.5Town Clock(168 reviews) - A remnant of a glorious Venetian time Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is a nice remnant of a Venetian past. The late-Renaissance clock tower is located on the main town square in Rovinj. Apparently it once represented the tower on the south corner of the former town walls. The town clock features the distinguishing Venetian lion. It's just one of a number of interesting features in the centre of this lovely old town.See more..
4.5Girandella Beach(122 reviews) - Pebble beach with amazingly clear water Points of Interest & Landmarks
Pebble beach with amazingly clear water. One part is for families with gradual entry into the sea, sunbeds and umbrellas on one place, for adults is the beach divided into different small places with a few of sunbeds and sun umrellas, it is not overcrowded. I recommend boots to water, there is no pier from which u can jump directly to the deep. 3.5Lighting Giants(99 reviews) - Only 3 & 1/2 lit up but still a good sight if you are passing Sunday: 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Over our week in Pula we saw the giants in their evening glory a couple of times. They can be seen from quayside across the road at the back of the large church/cathedral close to the forum. Each time we only saw 3 cranes illuminated properly & a 4th dimly lit. They look for industrial monsters that could probably be described as ugly during the day when they are busy loading cargo. I wish Liverpool would adopt this idea, it would look spectacular across the MerseySee more..

4.5Trevisol Street(59 reviews) - Lovely part of town. Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks

An exceptionally beautiful church. In Istria, in a rich and interesting history, they built a magnificent building such as the Roman Amphitheater in Pula, Euphrasius Basilica in Poreč, St. Fumus Church in Rovinj, Fortress Towns in Grožnjan, Motovun, Labin ... so was built this beautiful church of St. Pelage and St. Benedict in Novigrad. The interior of the church is dominated by the baroque altar and the elevated deep space below which is the (early) Romanesque crypt, the only one in Istria and one of the few in Croatia. Many of the early medieval liturgy furnishings have been found in the crypt, which are now exhibited in Lapidarium Novigrad Museum. In the Middle Ages the interior was painted with nice frescoes, as evidenced by their remains on the side (south) altar. The old bell tower on the facade of the cathedral was demolished in 1874, when it built a new standing campanile ( Bell tower ). For lovers of history, artifacts and architecture. It is worth to visit.See more..

4.0Fort Punta Christo(30 reviews) - Hidden Gem. Worth a climb Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
One of many heritages of the Austrian-Hungarian kingdom in Istria. The city of Pula was a naval stronghold, dating back to the Roman Empire. The fort was built in 1862 and is a sight to see. They should turn this into a proper museum. It now just sits there, waiting to turn into ruins. Go see it, the views on land and see are both breathtaking. See more..

4.5The Town Loggia(12 reviews) - Easily accessed and less commercialized fortified hill town. Points of Interest & Landmarks
We drove our rental car up here, parking at the top near the walled town’s entry. The parking ticket machine was not working so everyone this morning parked free. Nearby was a descriptive town map noting the sites along the acceptably sloped cobbled streets. We passed the 1554 Sts. Cosimo and Damian Church on the way to enter the 15th C Town Gate. Just inside was the beautiful 14th C market hall Loggia across from the 1492 Notary House. In other parts we found its 1748 church and tower, 1406 Blacksmith House and many other noteworthy stone structures. Easily accessed and less commercialized fortified hill town.See more..
4.5Galeria Adris(11 reviews) - Small, spacious place for excellent exhibitions (not always) at the end of Riva Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Visit it in next two weeks. It is a unique opportunity. They have very nice exhibition with just 38 works of Slovenian/ Italian and French painter Zoran Music (1909-2005) from some bearish beginnings to nice views of Venice, some boats, some drawings. You can see famous “We are not the last” paintings from Dachau and amazing Self-portrait. It is not a boring exhibition with hundreds of pictures. You can get a catalogue with English explanation. No entrance fee. A must if you are near Rovinj till the end of the month October. It is worth a trip. You will have enough time to go to lunch before or dinner later. A problem is that it is open just at the evenings.See more..
4.5Zavrsje(8 reviews) - Great location and history Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Castles
Really interesting place gradually being restored by the EU. We had it to ourselves and enjoyed the walk up to the ruined church and could see how in a few years this will be a tourism trap. The signs they have put up added much to our guide book. The people left mainly for .Italy after WW2 because they did not want to live under Marshall Tito. There is an active farm and wine business very nearby and the school at the bottom is fully restored. You walk away from this toward the deserted places high up, but, suddenly a lady emerges and her modern car sweeps off to a supermarket we guess. A strange a magical place!See more..
