An ideal place to relax with a cold drink and watch the world go by.
This was the ancient site where the Roman Forum stood and public gatherings took place. The original pavement has been preserved along the northern row of houses on the square. It was the showcase square when Emperor Augustus made this former fortified military camp a city in the first century AD. At that time, two temples stood here, one dedicated to Mars, the other to Neptune. Nowadays Marafor Square needs more than a little imagination to conjure up images of toga-clad citizens strolling around it going about their daily business. The former temples have been reduced to piles of rubble, with stubs of columns scattered around. The unkempt, balding grass on which they sit hardly adds to the experience. However, Marafor Square does give you an idea of the layout of this seafaring settlement 2,000 years ago, despite the absence of visitor-friendly information.

Worth a stroll through on way to harbour
Came upon this by chance wandering round the old town - sat in a restaurant and whiled away the time
