- 4.5 Museum Folkwang (511 reviews)
-Interesting art museum!
Friday: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Art Museums
The museum is housed in a modern, light-flooded building. There is an underground car park directly under the museum, so parking is no problem if you arrive in time before the museum opens. There is no entrance fee for the general section of the museum. You will be shown a selection of interesting exhibits, but the museum as a whole is not very large. It is worth a visit, however, if you are in the vicinity. See more..
- 4.5 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen (276 reviews)
-Terrific permanent collection
Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
In 1961, the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia acquired altogether 88 works by Paul Klee, which form the foundation of the museum’s collection. Celebrated in 1986 was the inauguration of the newly-constructed building of the Kunstsammlung am Grabbeplatz, with its characteristic black granite façade. Working in the tradition of Arne Jacobsen, the Copenhagen architectural office of a Dissing Weitling created a noble, restrained building whose detailing is typical of the period, and which yielded primacy to the outstanding works of art on display. Inaugurated in July 2010 together with the reopening of the totally renovated existing building is an additional exhibition area measuring 2000 m², which features state-of-the-art exhibition technology and takes the form of two pillar-free exhibition halls – thereby bringing the total surface area to 5000 m². Redesigned by Oswald Mathias Ungers in 2001, the Museum Kunstpalast is situated in the centre of Dusseldorf, directly on the river Rhine. Since its re-opening, the museum has achieved international fame with numerous high-caliber exhibitions, including MIRO, DALI, WARHOL, CARAVAGGIO, EL GRECO AND MODERNISM and GURSKY. - 4.5 LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur (188 reviews)
-Well Designed Museum of History, Art and Culture
Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums • Art Museums
The LWL-Museum fur Kunst und Kultur unites 1,000 years of art, ranging from the early Middle Ages through to the present. Guided tours, workshops and artists’ talks offer new ways of approaching art. Concerts, readings, dance, theatre and film attract the public into the foyer, the Lichthof in the old building as well as into the Auditorium. The museum concept takes into account the special needs of visitors with disabilities. Thanks to such highlights as the Soest Antependium, works by the tom Ring family of painters, the collections of expressionists artworks and of contemporary art the museum has achieved international recognition. The museum shows changing exhibitions across a floor space of approximately 1,000 square metres, with additional spaces for studio exhibitions and presentations of contemporary art. Since 1977, the museum has been the organizer of Skulptur Projekte every ten years, most recently in 2017, examining public space as a site for art. See more..
- 4.0 Museum Insel Hombroich (185 reviews)
-One of the most beautiful museums ever seen
Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Gardens • Art Museums
It’s actually a private collection scattered in a parc about 15 kilos from Düsseldorf, in the countryside. The architect Heerich built pavillions in brick , and it takes awhile to find them all . Inside is modern sculpture , drawings from Giacometti to Rembrandt , pre Columbia’s and ancient Chinese potteries , paintings by Klein and sculptures by Calder , there are also amazing sculptures outside , and beautiful geese and ducks all over the place that outnumber us . I always said my favorite museums were Dia Beacon ( New York State ) and Louisiana ( Danmark) but this one shares the first seat with them . See more..
- 4.0 Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Muenster (143 reviews)
-unique special exhibits
Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Art Museums
See more..
- 4.0 Kunstmuseum Bonn (135 reviews)
-Great Macke Collection
Friday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
This museum which is located on the Museumsmeile right beside the Bundeskunsthalle is architecturally interesting with a fantastic entrance hall and curved staircase up to the 1st floor. Although it houses many interesting works of art, my favourite is the collection of works by August Macke and the Rhenish Impressionists. A guided tour here makes the exhibition come to life and is highly recommended. The paintings are presented beautifully and there is ample space to view them from near and afar. Downstairs the cafe offers a good variety of food and beverages and there are tables outside in summer. See more..

- 4.5 Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden (126 reviews)
-Great place to visit for English tourists
Friday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Parks • Art Museums
The Waldfrieden Sculpture Park is located on a wooded slope between the center of Wuppertal in Elberfeld and the district of Barmen. The sculptor Tony Cragg opened the park in 2008 as a location where contemporary sculpture could be encountered in the open. It extends more than 14 hectares around the Villa Waldfrieden which the paint manufacturer Kurt Herberts commissioned to be built between 1947 and 1950. This singular building, which owes its sculptural qualities to its designer the artist-architect Franz Krause, was constructed in an organic manner and is encircled by a terraced lawn which merges subtly into its surroundings. Thanks to the regularely changing exhibitions of wellknown sculptors and a demanding event program, visiting the sculpture park is worthwile during the whole year. See more..

- 4.0 Siegerlandmuseum (38 reviews)
-Rubens and mining museum
Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums • History Museums
The Siegerland museum is located in the Oberes Schloss ('upper castle') and is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in the artwork of Rubens. It's easy to find - just head for the big castle on the hill overlooking Siegen. The museum contains a never-ending collection of paintings of heads of the Nassau-Oranien royal family from the 18th century. More interesting are the Peter Paul Rubens paintings. The museum also contains changing exhibitions of other artists - Dieter Nuhr when we visited. In addition to the artworks is the replica mine workings which you can wander through (a little claustrophobic and steps to climb) and examples of household items from the 19th century. Tiny restaurant and toilets make up the top level. Important notes: it's closed on Mondays, has a few steep and narrow winding staircases and you are not allowed to take photos or carry any bags with you (they provide free lockers). See more..

-An extraordinary collection for a small museum, especially of post-war and contemporary German artists
Friday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
Not a huge museum, but one with a fantastic collection of modern and contemporary artists, most notably post-war German artists and other artists associated with Germany. And if my single experience of special exhibitions is any indication, the museum has some talented curators who present extremely interesting special exhibitions. The tribute exhibition to Jannis Kounellis I saw had many compelling contributions from prominent European artists -- and a few jaw-dropping ones. I also learned about many German artists I loved, but had never heard of in the US. The building itself also has some terrific architectural features and, sited next to the locks on the river, it's a pleasure to visit for the views. See more..

-Spannendes Museumskonzept im Stadtmuseum Hattingen
Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums • History Museums
See more..

The former Cistercian monastery is a historic place that now offers a new function. For over 11 years, an ambitious interdisciplinary program has been offered on the cutting edge of art and communication. „DA“ is not only an abbreviation of the word "Denkmal-Atelier": Due to the communication strategy of the art house, it is also regarded as a referring concept and serves as an exclamation word which expresses surprise and symbolises pointing. „DA“ means search and find, „DA“ stands for change and movement. This refers to a program which not only tracks the history and roots of the place, but above all exhibits new, unknown and surprising art and thus stimulates debate. See more..
