4.5Cologne Cathedral(22.1k reviews) - Immense Friday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
This giant Gothic cathedral, which until its completion in 1880 had been under construction for over 500 years, is perhaps Germany's most famous religious structure and includes two huge towers that serve as the defining symbol of Cologne's skyline.See more..
4.0Cologne Central Station(2.654 reviews) - Beware of platforms Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Public Transportation Systems
The views and area outside are maybe one of the best in the world cities. Be very careful with platforms. They change departure platforms very quickly and several times if some train's late. We change first another side of platform and then had 3 minutes to go down and back few staircase later. See more..
This is one great little area of Dusseldorf to visit as the architecture here is outstanding,it's got cool modernistic building and some kooky looking buildings here, some of the buildings here are brightly decorated and festooned with art work and look awesome. Nestled between the modern buildings are some older structures and there's also some pretty good bars and restaurants close by,probably the most famous structure here is the telecomunications tower. The harbour area MedienHafen is easy to get to with easy access by public transport. See more..
We spent a day in Aachen, and we were grateful that so many things to see were near each other, including the city hall building. The many historical rooms are beautiful and well maintained. From a number of windows, one can look across the town square to see the beautiful cathedral. City hall was extra special to see during Christmastime, with extra lighting and a large Christmas tree.See more..
4.5Gasometer Oberhausen(721 reviews) - A wonderfully artwork and a beautiful view Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Observation Decks & Towers
The Gasometer is more than just an industrial monument. Since its decommissioning about twenty years ago it has developed into the landmark of the city of Oberhausen and, beyond that, it has become an entire region's identification sign that cannot be overlooked. Built in the late 1920's, Europe's largest disc-type gas holder is an impressive reminder of the heavy industry that characterised the Ruhr for more than a century. Whoever enters the Gasometer, does not, however, only get an impression of great engineering skill. The recognition of the technical achievements of industrialisation is mingled with the fascination of the unique space experience which this gigantic 'cathedral of industry' conveys. Today the Gasometer provides the unique frame for cultural experiences of various kind. Exhibitions, theatre and music are made viable and can be rediscovered and experienced with all the senses. As a venue it inspired artists of international relevance.See more..
i thought this was like unisex old spice but it seens to be the go to day perfume of the upper class. Every time I wear this posh sophisticated people that wouldn’t usually give me the time of day notice, correctly identify what fragrance I’m wearing then suddenly become very intrigued by me. My Nana got me onto it in the 90s because she thought it smelled like CK one which I was obsessed with. I forgot about it until quite recently. I’d recommend just as a conversation starter, but it smells amazingly good too. It’s very clean and fresh. Good for smokers as you can re apply frequently. It’s one of if not THE last cologne left so it’s much lighter than perfume but the body spray is strong and lasts all day long. The wipes are brilliant for hot sweaty days. All their products are good with hundreds of years of history and surprisingly inexpensive.See more..
4.5Schloss Augustusburg(612 reviews) - Great tour! If you’re in Cologne/the area, definitely go Friday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
Great palace, photos were allowed, but access is ONLY AVAILABLE by tour (you must stick to the group, and each door will be locked behind you). Our tour guide was very friendly and enthusiastic, and he conversed with guests a lot, both in German and English :) 10/10 tour guide. Can be confusing if you don’t speak German and have to use the audio guide, since sometimes it is hard to find/see the number needed. Was a fairly short tour in my opinion, but none the less worth while! The rooms are very ornately decorated even though there isn’t much furniture there (most of the furniture present, I believe, is not original) Would recommend going. The gardens area was also free with no restricted access, and also very nice. I did not visit the hunting lodge, because it is more than a 2km walk from this palace.See more..
4.5Villa Hügel(607 reviews) - Krupp Family Home Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Architectural Buildings
You definitely need a couple of hours for the viewing. We “only” had two hours and had to leave because it was closing for the day. So spend at least 2-3 hours if you can. I cannot agree with some of the former comments as yes not all rooms can be viewed but family history is amazing and there is so much information. The Krupps von Bohlen and Halbach are so well known and if you are interested in local history it is a must do whilst in Essen.See more..

4.5Philharmonie Essen(92 reviews) - A splendid concert hall with a great programme of music Architectural Buildings • Theaters • Convention Centers
See more..
4.5Bruder-Klaus-Kapelle(42 reviews) - Beautiful in the sunshine Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals

4.5Feste Zons(40 reviews) - A breathtaking time travel Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Zons was one of the highlights of my visit to Germany, not only for its beauty but also because I felt like I was seeing the life of the natives, not just the tourists. It's a beautiful small village from the 13th century, with preserved architecture and style, as well as a very cool old windmill on the big wall that surrounds it. I went on a sunday and saw many people from nearby cities riding their bikes and relaxing by the river, enjoying the day and the beauty of it. It's an easy train and bus ride either from Cologne or Dusseldorf, and it's totally worth visiting!See more..

The Brauweiler Abbey is home of a cultural and service center of the LVR. After the dissolution of the Benedictine Abbey at the beginning of the 19th century, the cultural monument went through a varied history - from a hostel for beggars and workhouse to a concentration camp, Gestapo-Prison and state clinic for psychiatry. Today you can follow the historical traces of the almost 1000-year history of the abbey. In addition, the cultural center offers numerous events. Many of the premises can be rented for private and professional purposes.See more..

4.5St. Peter und Paul(14 reviews) - Beautiful church at Christmas Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
When you hear the big bells start to toll, you know you have 10 minutes to get to Mass! This is a Roman Catholic Church and although we're Canadian, we attended midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. We all knew the story, and the rituals if Mass were the same, only the language was different. The church was crowded, but not full and we were lucky to score seats even though we couldn't sit together. It was beautifully, yet simply decorated with enormous fir trees at the altar decorated with straw stars and lit with soft white fairy lights. Red poinsettias were the plants of choice and the red added a glow of colour to the green. To the right of the altar was a life-size nativity scene with the usual figures, and all was lit softly. The organ was the instrument that evening and there was a choir of 5 or 6 people. Their voices were magnificent, falling and flowing and reaching a soprano's great range. It was so incredibly poignant that tears sprang to my eyes, especially when they sang the Halleluia chorus of Handel's Messiah. Incense hung thickly through the air and responses were sung by the priest and parishioners. This church is quite old from the middle of the 12th century and was originally built in the Romanesque style with arched round windows, but through the centuries, it was renovated, and expanded in the Gothic style with arched pointed windows. Stone columns support the roof and old wooden statues gaze down at the people. It has what I call an onion tower steeple with a bulbous bottom, followed by a pointed spire covered in slate. It sits in a lovely town square with a stone Rathaus beside it which is now a restaurant.See more..

See more..
4.5Haus Troistorff(11 reviews) - Haus Troistorff - well worth having a look at... Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings

14th century gate, one of the few mediëval structures in the region that survived wars and demolition. The gate building served many purposes. It once was a prison, an office of the Hilter Jugend and recently the Carnaval association uses one of the floors. I wonder how much of the present building is authentic and how much is reconstruction or replica. Still it reflects the true solid and robust nature of the Germans..See more..
At the end of Osthofenstrasse stands the only remaining city gate of Soest, the picturesque Osthofentor (Osthofen Gate), built in the green stone so typical for the region. We enjoyed walking towards it along Osthofenstrasse, which is lined with listed buildings and especially superb half-timbered houses. One we reached the gate (and took pictures of it from every angle) we continued our walk along the city walls and the green moats. The gate houses a small museum (Osthofentormuseum) about the history of the town and its fortifications, which has limited opening hours (Wednesday and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.). We didn’t get in, but just seeing the gate from outside is interesting.See more..

4.5Koptisch orthodoxes Kloster(6 reviews) - True Christian Hospitality Ancient Ruins • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
We visited the monastery as part of a day-trip from Bodenwerder and realised about half way to Höxter that we had forgotten our lunch sandwiches in the fridge... which was frustrating since my hubby makes the best sandwiches ever! Upon our arrival, much to our astonishment, we were greeted by his excellency Bishop Anba Damian who invited us to have lunch, which was plentiful and very delicious! Just as well we left the sandwiches behind... We were guided for free though their biblical / Egyptian museum and there is also a small religious shop. If you feel inclined to do so, there is a box for donations in the dining hall. We felt truly blessed visiting this monastery and meeting Bishop Anba Damian.See more..
