We chose the Harbour Roundtrip (Hafenrundfarht); an excellent cruise around the industrial port of Duisburg along the river Rhine and the Rhine-Herne Canal. The round-trip lasts about 1.5 hours and the commentary is in German. There is however an English description of the points of interest, which is available from the Wesse Flotte website, which allows a non-German speaker to follow the cruise map. The cruise, which costs 15 Euros, provides a different perspective of the city and is highly recommended. Drinks and refreshments are available on board. See more..

We had spent the afternoon on the west bank of the Rhein and in the little medieval town of Zons and were pleased to see that the ferry over to Urdenbach was, indeed running. We had previously read that the ferry wouldn't be running owing to unusually low water levels in the river. Anyhow, at the end of the afternoon we drove the short distance from the big car park in Zons to the ferry. For the princely sum of 3,50€ we paid for the crossing which included my car, myself, my 3 year old passenger and our dog. The ticket man on board was friendly and happy to explain that the ferry had, indeed, been running for quite some time. The crossing was quick and trouble free and was over very quickly. We were making our way eastwards across country heading for Königswinter one sunny Saturday afternoon recently. We were confronted with the mighty Rhein river and, rather make a detour up to the next bridge we decided to take this small ferry. We didn't have to wait too long. Our crossing took but a few minutes - just enough time to marvel at the array of walkers and bikers who were maximising the beautiful weather to get some exercise. I paid 2,70 € for this one way crossing. The price for one large car, two adults and a little girl. Cheap at half the price :-) See more..
