Like any Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, this site will move you, maybe to tears. The resting place of over 7000 allied combatants in a beautiful and serene setting. There is no recommended time to spend here, no rush, they who remain here have all the time in the world. I visited as I was researching the story of Dambuster Squadron Leader Henry Maudslay, one of the Royal Air Force 617 Squadron Lancasters that was lost on the night of 16/17 May 1943. To finish at his grave, where he lies with his crew (there is no room for discrimination in these sites) made my visit even more vivid, and inevitably sad too. See more..

I have visited many British and commonwealth war cemeteries and always find them fascinating and moving places. This was the first German cemetery I have visited and they are tended with equal care and respect. This was a very moving experience to see that despite being our enemies once, they share so much and they hurt and die the same as the western allies. A cemetery for the Germans who died in the Huertgen Battles. The cemetery itself is beautifully laid out but shares many differences to Commonwealth cemeteries - the dead are buried 6 to a grave plot and are remembered only by their names (no ranks or ages or dates of death or regiments etc) which I feel makes the soldiers anonymous but for the one thing they share - brave men who died in battle. You can find this small cemetery by walking east through the pedestrianised market place and then just keep on going and it's just a few minutes. It's a small triangle of grass on a corner with a number of headstones. The grass is a bit overgrown and it seems untended. I didn't notice any information boards so all you can do is look at the grave inscriptions. By all means have a look as part of a walk around the town, but it won't need more than minutes. See more..

Dieser Friedhof ist etwas besonderes, er ist klein und irgendwie mitten drin und doch ganz abgeschieden. Ein Grabstein erinnert an einen Menschen, der 1933 verstarb. Dieser Stein beschäftigt mich bis heute.

Neben dem bestehenden jüdischen Friedhof in Knickelsdorf wurde 1913 dieser Friedhof angelegt, noch ca. 80 Grabsteine sind erhalten. Einige Gräber sind hier in den 60igern hinzugekommen, da es Umbettungen aus dem Braunkohlegebiet auf diesen Friedhof gab. Manche Namen auf den Grabsteinen findet man auch in Straßennamen im Ort Schiefbahn wieder.
Der Friedhof ist immer gut gepflegt und regt einen zum Nachdenken an. See more..

It was not easy to find this place as Tripadvisor gives the wrong address. The right address is Lingener strasse 53, 48429 Rheine. Better said it is exact at the corner of Lingener strasse and Peterstrasse, next to the house number 53 ( look at the 'map' picture). It is a small good managed jewish cemetary, surrounded by approximately 2m tall red brick stone wall and locked fence. We could not get inside but we could see it from outside. Since 1934 it was not in used anylonger. The oldest gravestone was from 1823. See more..
