  2. 4.5 Botanischer Garten Grugapark (643 reviews)
    - The Garden Of Eden Revisited
    Friday: 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Parks • Gardens • Waterfalls
    Botanischer Garten Grugapark image
I was finally able to return to Essen, Germany for an annual conference that was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID. I deliberately chose the hotel I did because it was right next to the amazingyy peaceful garden of Eden. When I was here in 2019, my wife had to remain in the states to care for her ailing father. He died right before I arrived in Essen. I was so torn up that I walked through this park in an absolute downpour for several hours trying to come to grips with not being able to be there for my wife. Life is that way. I was now able to walk through this park on a warm, sunny day with a different perspective even though we are all still facing COVID. This is literally one of the most beautiful places to simply enjoy the wonderful creations of flora and fauna. This time they had a wonderful exhibit called Fearless Women. Spend time with nature and you will leave here in a peaceful, easy feeling...if I can quote the Eagles. See more..
  3. 4.5 Botanical Garden Münster (328 reviews)
    - Worth a visit even in January
    Gardens
    Botanical Garden Münster image
The Botanical Garden in Münster is the best Botanical Garden I have visited. Spacious, tended with loving care and with many special hothouses I spent hours here some years ago in the summer. Being in Münster this January I could not resist visiting the garden. Although the garden was of course in a less spectacular winter shape, the hot houses with the sub tropical and tropical plants were all there and we had the garden almost for our own. The staff, tending to the garden, outnumbered the visitors easily. The Botanical Garden of Münster is a must visit, even in January. It is located behind the historical university building. Plenty of parking space in front of the university, for a fee. See more..

  5. 4.5 Botanical Garden, Bonn (258 reviews)
    - A paradise for plant lovers
    Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Gardens
    Botanical Garden, Bonn image
When I lived at Bonn (1998-2006), I purchased the annual card for the Botanic Garden. Every weekend I went by and took thousands of pictures with my camera. They have a tropical forest garden house. You find a huge variety of succulents there too. From spring to summer, the outside area provides space to plants from Europe, Asia and the Americas. Park benches invite to relax. Many students are there to take a rest from their exhausting studies. This Botanic Garden is very well maintained and there are plant exhibitions too. The staff is overwhelming friendly and they answer every question one has on the plants. See more..
  6. 4.0 Museum Insel Hombroich (185 reviews)
    - One of the most beautiful museums ever seen
Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Gardens • Art Museums
    Museum Insel Hombroich image
It’s actually a private collection scattered in a parc about 15 kilos from Düsseldorf, in the countryside. The architect Heerich built pavillions in brick , and it takes awhile to find them all . Inside is modern sculpture , drawings from Giacometti to Rembrandt , pre Columbia’s and ancient Chinese potteries , paintings by Klein and sculptures by Calder , there are also amazing sculptures outside , and beautiful geese and ducks all over the place that outnumber us . I always said my favorite museums were Dia Beacon ( New York State ) and Louisiana ( Danmark) but this one shares the first seat with them . See more..
  7. 4.5 Botanischer Garten (181 reviews)
    - Place of peace
Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Gardens
    Botanischer Garten image
I love to go there to get some quiet time. It still seems to be an insider tip, known to students and some people within bochum. It is never crowded. The gardens are a lovely place to relax and you often meet some frogs in the pond or even a small snake (I have once- we both were surprised and she fled quite fast). And of course you can see lots of plants you normally wouldn't. It is worth a visit. See more..
  8. 4.5 Kaisergarten (177 reviews)
    - Not just animals
    Gardens
    Kaisergarten image
The Kaisergarten is a small zoo. You must pay no entrance fee. There are several kinds of small animals or animals living in Germany, donkey, horse and deers for example. It is nice to walk through the park. There is also a pond and some art. Nearby is the Schloss Oberhausen. In the Schloss are shown exhibitions and in a cafe you can take a break. Parking near the Kaisergarten or Schloss is easy. When there is no rain, you will enjoy the time spend there. See more..

  10. 4.5 Botanical garden Rombergpark (139 reviews)
    - A good park in the city
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Gardens
    Botanical garden Rombergpark image
Although the Botanical Garden Rombergpark in Dortmund was not officially opened until 1929, the actual one goes back to the beginning of the 19th century. The history of the place itself is full of intresting stories: from the high Middle Ages, through Napoleon's maneuver to modern times. From pig races and secret love affairs to crazy plant collectors. It was always exciting about the small piece of land on the Schondelle. Small? With over 680,000 square meters, the Botanical Garden, which mainly only called Rombergpark, is the largest of its kind in Germany and one of the largest in the world. Even today you can see the efforts and the lucky hand of its previous directors in the collections. Each director and each era has left a special signature. Huge trees - more than 200 years old - and rare, sometimes subtropical plant species make the visitor forget to linger on the eastern edge of the area called Ruhrpott. A firework of colors awaits the visitors from February to October. See more..
  11. 4.0 Poppelsdorf Palace (123 reviews)
    - An amazing day trip
    Historic Sites • Gardens
    Poppelsdorf Palace image
The botanical garden of Bonn is one of my favorite places to visit over and over. With its wide selection of plants, it’s a one of a kind botanical garden. It’s not so big, which makes it good for me, so I can go around easily in one day, not worrying about missing out parts of it! I love the cute animals which also live in the garden. There is also a nice Cafeteria which you can enjoy a cup of coffee or even a meal after visiting the garden! It’s beautiful in it’s own way in each season. See more..

  13. 4.5 Botanischer Garten (86 reviews)
    - Beautiful Botanical Gardens in Wuppertal
    Gardens
    Botanischer Garten image
Although you must take a bus (643) from the city centre to the Wuppertal Botanical Garden unless you have a car or a bicycle (if the latter, bear in mid the Garden is on a high hillside above the city and thus you will need amazing gears or the Iron Man's legs), this attraction is well worth a visit. The bus journey takes about 15 minutes. There are many interesting specimen plants and trees, greenhouses and so on, and entry is free. On sunny days the Garden is a suntrap and a splendid place to sit, talk with friends, read or simply enjoy the beauty of the plants. See more..
  14. 4.5 Historische Gartenanlagen (80 reviews)
    - Beautiful Garden Near the Zoo
    Friday: 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM Gardens
    Historische Gartenanlagen image
This beautiful historic garden from 17th century in Baroque style is located near the Zoo of Kleve at the hilly area Springenberg and framed on both sides by wood. The Amphitheater form is the most eye-catching. A statue of Pallas Athene is in the middle of the garden and behind the statue there is a small round temple and up there on the top is an obelisk. We parked the car at the zoo parking area and took five minutes walk to this garden. It's worth a visit. See more..

Lovely gardens and fountain. There is a great view of the gardens from the top of the steps which is almost the same level as the car park, but there are quite a few steps to get right down to the garden. 27. 4.5 Volksgarten (4 reviews)
    - Gepflegter abwechslungsreicher Park
    Spent 1-2 hours Gardens
    Volksgarten image
