4.5Cologne Cathedral(22.1k reviews) - Immense Friday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
This giant Gothic cathedral, which until its completion in 1880 had been under construction for over 500 years, is perhaps Germany's most famous religious structure and includes two huge towers that serve as the defining symbol of Cologne's skyline.See more..
4.5Königsallee(3.910 reviews) - Elegant Shopping Streets with Brand Name Stores on Both Sides of Beautifully Landscaped Canal Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.0Cologne Central Station(2.654 reviews) - Beware of platforms Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Public Transportation Systems
The views and area outside are maybe one of the best in the world cities. Be very careful with platforms. They change departure platforms very quickly and several times if some train's late. We change first another side of platform and then had 3 minutes to go down and back few staircase later. See more..
4.5Gasometer Oberhausen(721 reviews) - A wonderfully artwork and a beautiful view Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Observation Decks & Towers
The Gasometer is more than just an industrial monument. Since its decommissioning about twenty years ago it has developed into the landmark of the city of Oberhausen and, beyond that, it has become an entire region's identification sign that cannot be overlooked. Built in the late 1920's, Europe's largest disc-type gas holder is an impressive reminder of the heavy industry that characterised the Ruhr for more than a century. Whoever enters the Gasometer, does not, however, only get an impression of great engineering skill. The recognition of the technical achievements of industrialisation is mingled with the fascination of the unique space experience which this gigantic 'cathedral of industry' conveys. Today the Gasometer provides the unique frame for cultural experiences of various kind. Exhibitions, theatre and music are made viable and can be rediscovered and experienced with all the senses. As a venue it inspired artists of international relevance.See more..
4.0Heumarkt(603 reviews) - Christmas market still in full swing - in January Points of Interest & Landmarks
I have been coming here, off and on for the best part of 20 years now. My most recent visit was earlier today. I tend to try to park directly under the Heumarkt which is expensive but I guess typical of city centre underground parking fees nowadays. Even though it's well into January I was surprised to see that the Christmas market was still on. There were also quite a few hardy souls skating on the temporary ice rink. I quite like this place because there are loads of bars and restaurants close by, you're more or less in the Altstadt and only a stones throw from the river Rhein. All good. I'll continue to come from time to time.See more..
4.5Markt(582 reviews) - Lovely Christmas market but very busy Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
We travelled to Aachen especially to visit the Christmas market, having heard of its reputation. Indeed, it was a lovely experience with a nice atmosphere. Lots of stalls with food, drinks, Christmas decorations and other paraphernalia. Fairly strict enforcement of Covid-19 regulations, most people wearing mouth masks, but social distancing was impossible as it was so busy.See more..
4.0Bonner Münster(507 reviews) - A Must See. Friday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
4.0Puppenbrunnen(498 reviews) - The ensemble is very cute. Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Puppenbrunnen is a fountain on Krämerstraße, just at the junction of the street with the east side of Aachen Cathedral. Puppen is the German word meaning Dolls and you’ll know why the fountain is so named as soon as you see it. The fountain is an assemblage of bronze sculpture of dolls (in the generic sense of a child's toy model on a human). Some of the toys on the fountain include a horse and a rider, a joker, a female stall keeper, a priest, and others, but my favourite is the collection of theatre masks hung on a pole. Some of the dolls have movable joints, which child enjoy moving into “funny” positions. The ensemble is very cute.See more..
4.5Shrine of the Three Kings(497 reviews) - Amazing Shrine Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Not sure why this is a separate attraction as it’s inside the Cologne Cathedral. The shrine is a reliquary believed to contain the bones of the three magi who visited Jesus. “Borrowed” by Babarossa from the Church of Saint Eustorgio in Milan, it’s been in Cologne since the 12th century. The exterior decoration of gold and silver gilds are a masterpiece of medieval metalwork. As with most shrines, the figures are a mixture of prophets, apostles and Jesus. If you go on the guided tour with Dom Forum, you’ll get to visit the high Altar and get a better look at the shrine.See more..
4.0Drachenfelsbahn(485 reviews) - Fun funicular for fast ferrying to Drachenfels Friday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Funiculars are always a fun way to get to the top of somewhere. The Drachenfelsbahn is no different! The ride doesn't last long. Maybe 10 minutes? There are two stops. The first is at Schloss Drachenburg and the second is at the top of the Drachenfels, i.e. the end of the line at the top of the mountain. It's the easiest method to get to the top and it's inexpensive. Note there are no bathrooms in the waiting area where you board at the bottom. There are bathrooms in Schloss Drachenburg, and there's one at the top of the Drachenfels but it's in a restaurant and you have to pay if you're not a customer. Recommended at least once, perhaps on the way up, then walk back down.See more..
4.0Tiger & Turtle(428 reviews) - Rollercoaster, just different Points of Interest & Landmarks
Sehr schöne Sehenswürdigkeit im Duisburger Süden. Sollte man besichtigen, wenn man in der Nähe ist. Abends noch viel schöner. Kann man öfter besichtigen, immer wieder toll. 4.0Burgplatz(425 reviews) - Lovely historical square in Altstadt by the Rhine River Points of Interest & Landmarks
Great square in Altstadt in front of what was once a castle. Located by Düsseldorf's Rhine embankment promenade, it allows lovely walks alongside the river, gives you great views as well as easy access to the old town restaurants and bars. Visited in December/January: beautiful Ferris Wheel lit up at night + heartwarming Christmas Market with delicious finger food and “glühwein”. Loved it!!See more..
4.0Alter Markt(423 reviews) - Not that old. Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Alter Markt (Old Market Square) is a historic square in the old town of Cologne. Originally, the square dates from the tenth century, but has been transformed over time into a multifunctional entertainment square that is mainly known for its nightlife. Since the entire square was bombed during WW II, most buildings are modern reconstructions of old houses, although some of them were reconctructed in their historical style. Central to the Alter Markt is the Jan von Werth-Brunnen fountain from 1884. In the Advent period, the Alter Markt is the setting for one of Cologne's most popular Christmas markets.See more..
4.5Hermannsdenkmal(415 reviews) - Looking towards Rome Points of Interest & Landmarks
The very large statue of Hermann guards Germany against Rome (and France). Of course the story of Hermann who defeated the Romans fell into nationalistic and later wrong hands, but the place is great. Good parking area, playground, shop etc and walking tours around the hill and the statue. I recommend to go to the museum in Detmold to learn the history behind all this. Or watch the tv series The Barbarians.See more..
4.0Beethoven-Denkmal(370 reviews) - Statue of Beethoven in a large square Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
This statue of Beethoven is quite prominent in the main square called the Munsterplatz. The statue was created to commemorate the 75th birthday anniversary of Beethoven in 1845. Beethoven died in 1827 but was born in 1770. What is amazing about this square is that world leaders came to the inauguration ceremony. This included Queen Victoria of England and the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Considering that Beethoven had been dead for 18 years, the ceremony gives you the knowledge that he was certainly not forgotten.See more..
3.5Elisenbrunnen(370 reviews) - 53 degree water ... Friday: 9:30 AM - 12:00 AM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.0Altes Rathaus(326 reviews) - Often Overlooked Memorial to Books Burned During Nazi Times Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
In this marketplace in front of the old city hall sits a memorial to books burned by Bonn university students during the Nazi period and to the books' persecuted authors. The memorial is called "Lesezeichnen" or "Bookmarks." All in all, there are 60 copper plaques/stones inlaid into the cobblestones in concentric circles. These plaques are often overlooked amidst the cafes, farmers' market, and general hubbub going on in Am Markt. However, they are well worth a few minutes of contemplation!See more..
4.0Marktplatz(298 reviews) - Famous square. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Marktplatz is one of the most beautiful squares in Dusseldorf, famous for the location of the beautiful Renaissance Rathaus and the stunning and impressive equestrian statue of Jan Wellem ,its also home to the biggest and best Christmas market in Dusseldorf. We were in Dusseldorf over the Christmas period and a visit or three to the Marktplatz Christmas Market was always on the cards ,its so good ,lively and very festive and extremely popular with both locals and the hordes of tourists that descend upon Dusseldorf during the run up to Christmas. I love the architecture, it's so beautiful, I also love the pubs, bars and restaurants not just on the square but in the streets leading into the square, a beautiful square, most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a trip to Dusseldorf. I lived in Dortmund in the late 70's and will be going back for the Xmas market in December . Tried last time to go to the restaurant in westfalen tower but didn't book so couldn't get in . I have searched for an email address online but can't find one . Would anyone have one ?See more..
4.5Tetraeder Bottrop(216 reviews) - Nature reserve with a a surprising view at the top. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Firstly make sure you find the car park located due west, This gives you access to the staircase which is to the south (good for going down) or the zigzag path on the west side. We parked to the North which was fine but meant we had a longer walk up through the woods. The planting is quite mature now so it is very pleasant walk but takes at least half an hour and then there's the structure on the top! This is free(!) but then there are no cafe's or facilities. The view is really good and it's not too difficult to climb up the stairs. My family enjoyed it and bI thought it was one of the best things to do in the area.See more..
4.5Old Town Kettwig(201 reviews) - Picturesque little town Points of Interest & Landmarks
I'll mention first that it's hard to find parking if you're visiting by car. The town is largely residential. I visited mid-morning on a weekday and it was nearly impossible to find somewhere to park. I eventually found parking and walked 10-15 minutes or so to the town center. The town is very picturesque. Shops and cafes line the main street through the town. I was able to get some great photos of the white/timber style houses you see in some of the reviews with photos; since I visited during the week, there was no one around to get in my photos, so that worked out great. A very pleasant area to walk around for an hour or so.See more..
I first encountered knowledge of the Schwebebahn as I was watching a train show on PBS in the United States. The fact that it was an elevated train, but it's a suspended train with amazing views of Wuppertal had me immediately hooked. I was so happy when I bought my ticket from the Deutsche Bahn people at the station, told them I'd come a long way...it did not disappoint. It glides above the Wupper River what's the fun of an amusement park ride. I couldn't believe they began service in 1901. I would totally do it again.See more..
4.5Köe-Bogen(190 reviews) - Wonderful to see Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.5Nationalpark Eifel(182 reviews) - Great trekking especially if you like forests! Points of Interest & Landmarks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Just back from a two day trek on the "Wilderness-Trail" (2 out of 4 stages) in the Eifel National Park. If you like wilderness, forests and the quietness of the nature this could be a nice spot for (at least) a 2 - 4 day trip. We did stages 2 and 3 from Einruhr over Gemünd to Heimbach. Apparently stage 4 is a bit "boring". But we did not do that stage and can really recommend stages 2 and 3. They are wonderful but not always easy walks of 20 and 22 km. More information can be found on the internet site: http://www.nationalpark-eifel.de/go/eifel/english/Under_your_own_steam/Wilderness_Trail.htmlSee more..
4.0Emperor William Monument(179 reviews) - Amazing Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
I learned about this monument by coincidence when someone shared its pictures on internet and decided immediatelly to go to see it in real. I was amazed and definitelly not regret two hours of driving. There are several ways to get to the memorial. I parked my car at the hikers parking under the monument, first followed a marked trail and later very steep narrow unmarked trail up to the top. It was not the best decision in the hot weather and long sitting in the car. But magnificient building and breath taking views made me forget all the suffering. I arrived from the top and I liked beautiful forrest around so much that I decided to skip the info center and the restaurant and continue hiking in neighborhood which I can trully recommend. There are several other little points of interests like Moltke tower, Wittekindsquelle or Margareth chapel not far from here.See more..

4.5Kirche St. Andreas(174 reviews) - Beautiful church. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
There are two streets that meet in the Old Town both packed with pubs, bars and restaurants namely Bolkerstraße and Hunsrueckenstraße and were they meet is Kirche St Andreas which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful churches in Dusseldorf. The exterior is very eye catching, a beautiful Baroque building, the interior is serene, beautiful white walls and ceilings ,ornate details throughout this church, it's just one beautiful church and one of the landmark buildings in the Old Town. Easy to locate along Hunsrueckenstraße, most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area. See more..

3.5Lifesaver Brunnen(138 reviews) - Strange colorful artwork Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Lifesaver Brunnen (fountain), by Niki de Saint Phalle, is part of a sculpture trail that runs along the pedestrian zone in the center of Duisburg. Locals use it as navigation landmark in the city center. Around, there are many stores, coffee shops, restaurants etc. Nice but does not worth changing your route just to see this bird statueSee more..
Our stay at this beautiful castle was breathtaking. The room had a fantastic view as far as Cologne, was very nicely furnished and extremely spacious. The service staff was very attentive, courteous and friendly from check-in to dinner and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was fantastic! Built in a long, stately castle arch. A very large selection of dishes and groceries, also many vegan and vegetarian delicacies. We will definitely come back! Thank you dear team of the Schloßhotel for this wonderful stay.See more..

3.5Nibelungenhalle(109 reviews) - Must do. Along way hill up. Wagner experience Points of Interest & Landmarks
A long way hill up. to this Wagner expeince. During Covid19 the parking is a desolated area. We took the long walk up to the Nibelungenhalle. The architecture of the building is misterious. At the entrance we did not feel welcome. But inside the hall we were happy to make this visit. The interior represents the heavy atmosphere of Wagners opera’s. Very dark paintings of Wagner opera’s Herman Hendrich. A curious video of an old movie by the German Fritz Lang: conquering the dragon. The visit was really a worthwhile. We did not visit the reptile part of the building.See more..
We wanted to visit the Christmas Market, but unfortunately it was already finished just before New Year. However the visit was still interesting. Christmas decoration was still all over the place. 4.5Alter Friedhof(77 reviews) - Peaceful cemetery to visit in Bonn Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is a beautiful old cemetery located somewhat near the town center of Bonn. We didn’t see a lot of tourists there, so it was quite peaceful. Many of the wealthier citizens of Bonn are buried here including the mother of Ludwig van Beethoven. Both Clara and Robert Schumann are buried here as well. Clara was one of the most famous pianists of her era and was a child prodigy. She married Robert Schumann who was famous in his own right as a composer.
