For 11 days in August, it’s a fairground, but for the other 354 days of the year, the Iowa State Fairgrounds is home to auto shows, livestock exhibitions, flea markets, antique shows, concerts, trade shows and more. See what’s happening this month at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. See more..
  2. 4.5 Principal Park (237 reviews)
    - Great baseball park

We loved our experience at the park. Super clean and fun family atmosphere. Prices for tickets and food very affordable. $10 25 oz beers and $5 colossal dogs can't be beat in today's era of high prices at a game. Fans were super friendly, definitely take in a game if you're a fan. See more..
  3. 4.0 Wells Fargo Arena (117 reviews)
    - Fun Game, sad sound for the concert.

We came to see a hockey game and see the Eli Young Band play afterward. Parking was great, $5 for a garage not to far of a walk from the arena. The Game was fun, the atmosphere was good but the chicken fingers sucked, the fries sucked. They let us move closer to the band after the game, we couldn’t understand what the band was saying or singing. So unless you knew the songs you had no idea! We expected better sound like we had during the game! ☹️ I was super disappointed by that! See more..
  4. 4.5 UNI-Dome / McLeod Center (54 reviews)
    - McLeod Center - GREAT Venue for sporting events
    Arenas & Stadiums
    UNI-Dome / McLeod Center image
I wanted to give my input on the McLeod Center, a place where I watched hundreds of sporting events over the years, prior to our move to Florida for 10 years. (We're back in Iowa now, but that's another story.) 1) Smaller venue which allows for GREAT view from any seat. 2) Wide aisle at the top of the bowl. Allows for fans to mingle. 3) Ample snack stands. Sure, when the place is packed, you have to stand in line for your drink, but have you ever been to a huge place like the Amway Center in Orlando? I have, and it's not pleasant, waiting in line. The 1st pic is one I took at a game as we were coming out of the pandemic. Fans were spread out, but the 2nd is my best friend and me at courtside, like we were for all those years before my move to Florida. See more..

Winter in the Great plains I can remember growing up playing hockey out in the backyard when we emptied water to freeze over the grass. A nice night for developmental hockey... fun... Players are trying to get college scholarships..plus training for referees and coaches.. It's been around for 41 years.... plenty of participants went on to college teams and the NHL. A really great place for families. It's easy to see that you could take a large group to the game and have a good time there is about 10 of us. We don't really drink too much anymore but everybody has a beer there's some great craft beers there. You can also get mixed drinks. And simple food like popcorn pizza and there's some other food you can get there too hot dogs etc. Bring a pad to sit on, and make sure you dress warm. It's a really classic old arena where you can enjoy a nice winter's night. See more..

  11. 4.5 Xtream Arena (3 reviews)
    - Attractive Sports Complex in a Lively Entertainment Area
    Arenas & Stadiums
    Xtream Arena image
My wife & I and a friend from the area attended two Iowa Heartlanders minor pro hockey games at the new Xtream Arena in mid-November. The exterior & interior of the building are very attractive, with the ice rink space brightly lit & offering good views of play with a single bowl of seats. The Arena staff were all very friendly & professional, and the concessions variety was impressive for a medium sized sports venue. The surrounding Iowa River Landing mixed use development offers streetside & lot & ramp parking, and there are several dining spots within an easy walk of Xtream for pre- & post-event visits. All close to I-80 for easy access, the Arena & surrounding attractions are a very good addition to the Iowa City area entertainment scene. See more..
