We arrived in time to watch the bottling cycle in progress. Interesting to observe how fast the bottles fill, the corking machine and shrink wrap processes. Our tour guide and the production crew were friendly and answered all our questions about the history of Templeton and other local area sites. While Templeton rye is distilled out of state; they use a special Prohibition-era Kerkhoff recipe from the 1920s when many defiant residents of this small Iowa town became outlaw bootleggers. Their visitor center has a good variety of Templeton Rye merchandise. Although there was a tasting bar, a change in Iowa law now forbids them to serve samples of their product. The good news is the law finally allows Iowa distilleries to sell their products, so TR is building a major expansion and will start distilling, selling and resume tastings of their rye.See more..

Foundry Distilling Company is a great new addition to historic Valley Junction! Stopped in around 9 pm on a Friday night and the bar/lounge area had several patrons enjoying specialty cocktails made from Foundry's own distilled spirits. The aesthetics are impressive, with fine furnishings and detailed touches. Large windows offer a peek into the neighboring pub, The Hall. The meat and bones of Foundry is of course the distillery. I was offered a private tour and was quite impressed with the operation and thought that has been put into it. Foundry also has a private room which I believe can be rented, and outdoor space for events as well. There is no doubt this would be a creative venue for a corporate or private event - and surely the Foundry team will be putting their own events on as well! Great place to visit! Beautiful still and tasting room! Whether you live locally or just passing through - this is a must see. The owner, Pat, has a wealth of knowledge of the liquor industry and distilling process and he welcomed my husband and I for a tour like we were his own family. His passion for distilling shows in the high quality craftsmanship of his product. We did a tasting of North 40 Vodka and it is the smoothest vodka we’ve ever tasted! It makes you realize how many poor brand name vodkas are out there that are just not worth the money the liquor stores charge. Can’t wait for his bourbon to be released! See more..

Cat's Eye Distillery is a small distillery located in a warehouse in an industrial park. They do not have a tasting room and is not zoned to sell products. The owner gives a great tour and explanation of the processes involved in making their products, from purchasing the corn from a local farmer, grinding it, boiling it, extracting the sugars, fermenting, and so on. There are no set hours as the owner comes and goes to the distillery at all hours of the day depending on what processes are currently needing attention.
