My wife and I arrived by bicycle, right at noon. There we found that they had just opened. It was very nice out, so we sat at an outside table. Inside we ordered 2 beers. Both were very yummy. The gentleman working the bar was very nice and helpful. They apparently invite a food truck to park at their location and offer up food to brewery customers, or whoever makes their way to their parking lot. On this day, Mactopia was the food truck available. And we took advantage of them, and enjoyed a tasty, and quite large serving of, a brisket Mac and cheese. We had a great lunch visit. I would visit again. See more..

  8. 4.5 Fat Hill Brewing (30 reviews)
    - Great Place for Outstanding Craft Beer
    Friday: 4:00 PM - 11:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Bars & Clubs • Breweries
    Fat Hill Brewing image
Fat Hill Brewing is a locally owned/operated 7-barrel craft brewery that opened in Mason City in December 2016. Our brewing facility and tap room in the long-vacant historic building at 17 N. Federal Avenue features sixteen taps, space for 140 patrons, and a busy calendar full of live music and special events. We have a creative, ever-changing beer menu in which we try to spotlight Iowa ingredients when we can, including wildflower honey from Nora Springs, aronia berries from Fertile, herbs from Mitchell, and hops from Cedar Falls. Our brewer, a FHB co-owner, loves to brew classic old-world styles like a dopplebock or porter, but also gets a kick out of adding his own spin on familiar beers (hibiscus in a saison, matcha in a wit, etc.). We are especially proud of our barrel aging program and our hazy citrus-bomb of a NEIPA. We strive for impeccable customer service and a strong sense of community in our tap room, as it's the only place in the world you can find our beer. See more..

  11. 4.5 Lake Time Brewery (25 reviews)
    - Interesting brews in a quaint house
    Spent 2-3 hours Breweries
    Lake Time Brewery image
After having several of their brews throughout the day we knew we needed to make a stop at this brewery. We did a flight of their 10 beers and with only two of us we could not finish them all. None of the beers we had tasted throughput the day were included so these 10 were all new to us. As with all flights, some you love and some you don’t —. Interesting blend. The brewery is located in an old house with a porch that we sat on only to find that the sun was in our eyes and it was too hot so we moved back inside. Limited parking and is located on a busy street. We had a snack plate that was very reasonable but we would have been happy with a bowl of popcorn. It was busy so staff was not able to talk to us much so we were not able to know about them. Even with the tiny negatives I am still giving an excellent rating. We will go here again if ever back in the area. See more..

Enjoyed the apple cider and brick baked pizza. It was super hot when we were there and we didnt get there early enough to grab a shady area to sit in as it fills up quickly. Still appreciated the surroundings and the live music. Wishing they were open more than just Sunday. Also wish the food vendors were more reliable. (Called ahead and was told food vendors 'usually' show up around 1-2, if they can'.) We'll go again now that we know the ropes. See more..

  21. 3.5 Another Road Brewing (10 reviews)
    - Some decent beers
    Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
    Another Road Brewing image
We went here as I saw it on TA and was intrigued by the new brewery. My husband and I are big on craft beers so we went ahead and sampled every Another Road Brewing beer on tap. Overall, they were fine. Some were not our type but they weren't necessarily bad. Some stood out (Honey Wheat). So, there is some potential here as the place grows. The location is good with ample parking, and the interior is bare--they are obviously still moving in. It looks like the only food offering is popcorn. We've been to many breweries that don't serve food, this place should work out a bring your own food policy (common in Maryland)...and then cross advertise with Zoeys! ;). (And maybe sell some soda?) See more..
  22. 4.5 Clock House Brewing (10 reviews)
    - Pre dinner stop
    Breweries
    Clock House Brewing image
Was in town for 2 nights. We were planning on going out to dinner in CR and looking for a brewer to stop in beforehand. It was Wednesday night and a few people were inside and few outside. We were created right away and could sit anywhere. We both ordered a flight of 4 beers. I picked a variety and thought all were pretty good. For food we needed a snack. They share a kitchen with Black Sheep social which coincidentally we had already planned on going for dinner. We just got the elote corn dip. It was pretty average. Really not that much for $12. A handful of chips, and some veggies that looked like they had been cut ahead of time and had dried out somewhat. Would choose something else to eat if going in the future. The beer was definitely good and verdict still out on the food. See more..

  25. 3.5 Mason City Brewery (5 reviews)
    - Small
    Friday: 5:00 PM - 11:00 PM Breweries
I thought this place was nice but the space was very small. It seems like a "regular" hangout since people were looking at us when we walked in; we were in town from Mpls and they obviously knew we didn't live in town. Beer was good. See more..

So cool to see a place like this operating in Newton! We were visiting the area for some sad family business, and Gezellig is a stone's throw from the Best Western. It was a very warm environment to tuck into after the events of the day. Love that it's located in a building that is being re-used / restored (Maytag Building). Tasting room is in the former employee cafeteria. I felt safe and hugged sitting at the bar and meeting the locals. AND GREAT BEER for sure! See more..

  31. 5.0 Farmhand Brewing (1 review)
    - Nice Small Town Brewery
    Breweries
    Farmhand Brewing image
This was the first time that my wife and I had visited the town of Earling, IA. We were tired of being stuck at home for the Covid issue and decided to take a small road trip since the weather was nice for January. We took a relaxing drive using side roads from Omaha to Earling. Our goal was to visit Farmhand Brewing. We have traveled countless miles and visited many craft brewers over the years and are always looking for someplace new. Farmhand Brewing is located on the main business street in Earling. The interior is nicely decorated and there is seating at the bar and numerous tables. They serve pizza now, but we did not have any on our visit. They do have mixed drinks available and tv's for watching your favorite game. We sat a the bar and started with flights to sample as many of their beer offerings as possible. Along with their own beers, they did have a couple of guest taps. All the styles of beer they brewed were very good and we enjoyed talking with he owner. Opening a craft brewery in a small town is a risky adventure, and to do so with the Covid pandemic makes it even more trying. While we were enjoying our visit, another couple came in from another town in Iowa. They apparently had visited before and enjoyed the beers. I don't know why, but it seems as if most of the breweries in Iowa are located from Des Moines to Illinois, and the western part of the state has few breweries. The small town friendliness was alive in well in Earling. We enjoyed our beers and the people we met. We travel through Iowa for various events each year and we will make an effort to visit Farmhand as much as possible. This is a neat location to visit. Try some craft beer, relax with some of the locals, and make new friends. Definitely worth a few hours of your time. Cheers!!! See more..
